It's all about getting the right amount of downforce to make the car easier to drive without producing so much drag that it slows the car down. In drag racing they call that a spill plate. If it is in the middle of the trunk deck they call it a shark fin. The more HP the larger the spill plates.

Are they unstable only in traffic? Unstable only with the 670 package? Or just unstable altogether?

I'm guessing it's the latter since they seem to be losing control when nobody is around them? I haven't had a chance to follow along, stupid work getting in the way
