Not true at all. NASCAR told them they could "fix" the parts. Did they go too far? Maybe, I'm not even going to get into that argument, but the FACT is that due to manufacturing issues, they were NOT 100% off limits, and that was why the appeals board was willing to consider a penalty reduction. If this whole thing was as clear cut as you want to make it, the penalty would not have been reduced.

If it wasn't a penalty, there wouldn't have been a consequence. They knew what they were doing, and we all know that. We are talking about an organization that understands the value of a two inch slit in the wrap. Please.

I never said they weren't cheating, odds are they were, but to just make a blanket statement that the parts are not to be touched in this particular case is simply not true. That is an EXTREMELY important point in this conversation. It's why the JGR tape on the nose was clear cut, and this one, not so much. I am of the opinion that the RFK penalty was too harsh too, for the same reason. NASCAR allowed them to fix the part, and then got in a pissing contest about how it was fixed. That's not a good enough reason to basically wreck someone's season in my opinion.
 
I still standby that no team should be given permission to or told to manipulate any single source part period. You're just setting them up. If it needs to be fixed or modified nascar and it's manufacturers should be responsible for that.

NASCAR, like most big businesses and the government is really good at mandating things and then dumping the actual fine points, details and practical application into somebody's else's lap. Those louvre's should have been 100% correct before they left NASCAR control, but they're not going to spend THEIR money to fix them, they dump it into the team's lap.
 
Available time probably factored in. The louvers were designed and manufactured as part of the new short track aero package and distributed to the teams. Was there enough time to return them all, make the changes necessary and get them back to the shops in time for the race? I don’t know.

NASCAR chose to instruct teams to make changes that matched the CAD drawings. For reasons of their own, HMS chose to do something else. They did that again with the wiper motor slot.

Race teams do everything with a purpose. To think otherwise is foolishness.

But we can be 100% certain that this was only a communication issue with absolutely no performance advantage per Jeffy.

It is such a shame and the reason that Rick has only won 675 races in Nascar's top 3 series.
If you remove the Xfinity and Craftsman truck wins, that only leaves 354 cup wins.

Those 120 Vettes have cost Hendrick dearly. I hope it was worth all the suffering he hath wrought upon the lives of his chain ganged employee's.

This is so stupid.....We have 20 somethings lining their pockets with cash, and they say they want a life. It's the money that provides access to this "life." A life that nobody else has at 20 something.....Who wouldn't trade their "freedom" for this kind of dough. So ****** entitled.

Yeah, Rick when interviewed said about Larson and the rest of them racing elsewhere was if they get hurt, he is going to replace them. Berry did a hell of a job as a replacement, and is hoping like crazy that the rain holds off so he can race the 48.

Given the current playoff qualifications why would he change anything? Driver gets hurt, sits out, comes back and wins a race, makes playoffs. Maybe be would care if they had to be in the top 30 drivers pts but they took that away so nothing matters anymore.

The experience outside the Cup races is beneficial though. Look at William Byron and Kyle Larson.

And I don't know if you've paid attention, but NASCAR is making huge investments in their short track program too.

It's a win/win for everyone to have guys like Larson and Bowman show up at dirt tracks, and WIllyB in Super Lates, and Harvick and Berry in CARS Tour.
