Old Chase threads

You weren't going to watch Homestead even if Jeff was in contention to win the championship?

I would be boycotting whether Jeff was in or not.

I figured I would keep up to date with what's going on by reading posts on here or calling my dad, but now I don't care what happens period.

Hamlin, Harvick, and Newman, all chase era drivers, all have never won a championship.

Now that this format was basically a lottery, they all have an equal chance as 3 of the 4 people still in it.

Lol. Good luck to you guys and congrats on your possible asterisk championship.

bull****, Newman has had a consistently decent season and he played by the rules.

Newman's Overall 2014 season (Including chase)

4 Top 5s
15 Top 10s
0 Poles
41 laps led

Avr finished 13.0
--

1.Chicago=15th
2.Loudon=18th
3.Dover=8th

4.Kansas=6th
5.Charlotte=7th
6.Talladega=5th

7.Martinsville=3rd
8.Texas=15th
9.Phoenix-11th

So overall, what you are saying that "decent" out does great. Excellent logic Jeffrey.

It is mind boggling that a pair of second place finishes gets beat by a mediocre 15th and 11th place run.

That's the real travesty here. You can run top 2, 2 out of 3 and still get beat by said poor record.

Denny also didn't even have a single top 5 during the strings of runs. Of course up until today.

Now, as fars as how Newman actually got in. No issues from me. Dirty move, everyone knows it. Move on.

I am fairly certain NASCAR will overhaul the chase format...once again.

What we saw today shouldn't be happening. As far as a driver outrunning another and still getting beat.

My one and only post on this.

Well I am talking season long, and average finish of 13th is actually really decent.

Poor record? Jeff average finish over last 3 races is 11th,and Newman's is 9th. Okay..

3 races of 37 shouldn't weigh so heavily. That is what most that hate this format are pissed about. How have you missed that?

Funny how fans of the other eliminated drivers aren't crying.

Not sure if I'm reading your quote right; I'm not happy that Brad was out, but I still really like the format. They all knew what they had to do to advance and some of them didn't get it done. I wouldn't say I'm crying at all.

He's saying that you are taking the loss in stride. He's complimenting you.

Man you've been spoiled being a gordon fan. He still won 4 races and had a good season. It is what it is

He had a CHAMPIONSHIP season. No chase, he leads over Logano by about 30 points right now. That is why I'm pissed.

What would be irony at its finest is if Newman won the "emphasis on winning" format with zero wins.

This Chase reminds me of something like the New York Giants two years in winning their two Super Bowls.

They limped into the playoffs as a six seed and got hot as a collective unit and won those two years. That's what I think of when I think of Hamlin and Newman. They needed to be where they needed to be to get. Now they have an opportunity.

Didn't Kevin and Newman come around before the chase??? uh??? If you count people who came along around that time, most drivers in Nascar now did so your point being?? Only 2 or 3 drivers at most could be said not to be from your so called "Chase Era"

I really like the way Newman is playing this game . Not overdriving or abusing his equipment . Staying out of the wrecks . Doing just what he has to do to advance . In short , he will be your 2014 Nascar Champion . He studied the rules and worked within them .

Yeah 01 and 02 I believe right? What I meant was these guys have all had shots and have blown it. And now that the format is more convoluted than ever, they are all equally and exclusively in the hunt. It's ironic.

I understand you being disappointed man but that's the joy/agony of playoff systems. I would've loved my Patriots to have gotten the perfect season but instead they lost the Super Bowl to a 9-7 team. It sucks, but that's the beauty of sports.
