    Cup RACE thread --- Phoenix

30 lead lap cars is crazy for a 1 mile track.

I noticed it last week with some lesser knowns too I think.

I'll give Fox credit: I think they are actively trying to show more racing back in the field this year. It only took them 15 years.

Lol @ drunk guy ambling across the hill.

Really hope PeeWee isn't rewarded with a win after his childish display last week.

Wow. Hardest hit of the season?

Way to create a straw man argument. Limiting driver comfort is not the same as going back to the 50s. But TRL said get back on track, so I'll leave this to another thread (maybe in the off season).

    Cup RACE thread --- Phoenix

Driver survived for the first fifty years of this sport without massive blowers. The ostensibly better conditioning of the drivers today should help them overcome the heat. I like things that make the driver play a bigger role. Again, do what is needed for carbon monoxide. Everything is else is...

    Cup RACE thread --- Phoenix

If they want to sell these guys as athletes (which they do) they really should limit the driver blowers. You don't see football players with air conditioning in their helmets. I understand the the Carbon Monoxide concerns, but these go beyond that.

If stage racing caused the great finish in segment 1, what role did it play in this blowout? Could it be the stages sometimes coincide with good battles and sometimes don't?!

    Cup RACE thread --- Phoenix

They make a big deal about the car temp when these guys now have cool air literally attached to their helmet. It ain't like it used to be.

    Cup RACE thread --- Phoenix

Man, they're racing for the lead! The stage must be almost over because that's the only time it happens!

I wonder if we are starting to see ill-effects of the move to Ford for SHR the last couple weeks.

Why are the stages so arbitrary? At Daytona, stage 1 and 2 took us to 60% of race distance. Here, 1 and 2 are less than halfway. Makes no sense.

    Indy and restrictor plates???

This is stupid. Whoever starts on the pole will lead every lap short of a mechanical failure. How is it that fans on a forum can know this but Nascar doesn't?

    Matt DiBenedetto

I think it's very easy to say a driver in sub par equipment is underrated. And, unless he ends up in the 5, we'll never be able to prove you wrong. The only exception I can think of is if the driver has teammates that he is consistently outperforming, something not possible here.

    Joey Logano vs. Kyle Busch

More and more, I like Logano. He races hard and doesn't give an inch. Kyle came off looking like his usual punk self in all this, coming to start a fight and being the only one who got hurt at all.

    Rate The Race: Las Vegas

    9. A lot more fun than last week, some evidence of harder racing for stages.

Why Can't Drivers Tweet Photos From Infield Care?

Another example of NASCAR turning off fans in a bid to be too serious. When someone (Edwards?) tweeted a pic during the Daytona red flag a few years back, the natural reaction would be 'haha, just don't do it under green.' Instead, they banned phones in the cars. Same situation here. NASCAR...

    I don't get it.

Watching the IndyCar race this morning. It is so refreshing to see a race being allowed to play out naturally without the BS gimmicks. I expect my NASCAR watching will decline and my Indy watching will increase this season.
