2018 Dover - AAA 400 Drive for Autism - Pre-Race Thread

I usually take my dad to the Dover races but we both decided on skipping the fall race and dragged a tv outside and cooked in the backyard and had a blast so we'll be doing that again.
Dover is a great place to see a race, it's just the hassle of traffic getting there and back and parking that we both can do without.

Jimmie has 11 wins there, the most in track history and he's almost always there at the end even if he's not winning. I'm not a big Jimmie fan but to ignore how good he is at this track is just stupid.

Tire: Goodyear Eagle Speedway Radials

Set limits: Cup:
4 sets for practice, 1 set for qualifying and 8 sets for the race;
Xfinity: 6 sets for the event

Tire Codes:
Left-side -- D-4728; Right-side -- D-4742

Tire Circumference:
Left-side -- 2,227 mm (87.68 in.);
Right-side -- 2,250 mm (88.58 in.)

Minimum Recommended Inflation:
Left Front -- 19 psi; Left Rear -- 19 psi;
Right Front -- 49 psi; Right Rear -- 45 psi

Storyline - High speeds, high loads and concrete surface make Dover a triple threat: Like Bristol Motor Speedway earlier in the season, Dover International Speedway is a high-speed, high-load track that features a concrete surface. The right-side tire Goodyear brings to Dover's fast one-mile configuration is built to withstand the loads generated and features a tread compound that will rubber-in the smooth surface. Directly after holding a July 2017 test at the track, Goodyear changed its left-side compound to enhance grip.

"There are a lot of factors that come into play when designing and building a tire set-up for Dover," said Greg Stucker, Goodyear's director of racing. "With 24 degrees of banking in the corners, Dover is an extremely fast track that generates a lot of load. Our right-side tire is designed to handle all that, and is also the tire that is charged with laying rubber on the concrete surface. What fans will notice is Dover's white surface turning black with rubber as the weekend progresses. During the races, under caution when the cars are not at speed and actively laying rubber, the hot tires will actually pick up some of the rubber back off the track surface. Once the race goes back under the green flag, this right-side compound will quickly lay rubber down again."

Notes - Goodyear returns to Dover with proven tire set-up for Cup, Xfinity cars: While teams in all three NASCAR national series will run the same right-side tire code at Dover this week, teams in the Cup and Xfinity Series will run a different left-side code than those in Camping World Truck . . . this is the same combination of left- and right-side tires that Cup and Xfinity teams ran at Dover last September . . . this is the only track at which these teams are scheduled to run either of these two tire codes . . .Dover is unique among NASCAR ovals one mile or less in length, in that inner liners are required on all four tire positions . . . air pressure in those inner liners should be 12-25 psi greater than that of the outer tire.

Driving around looking at the sights, just like the rest of the field
 
Larson and especially Elliot had a lot of shorter track experience before cup. Larson won at Dover in K&N.
 
First the Martinsville debacle, now rain likely this weekend. This is why I take Monday off when I head to the track.

Great. Now I'm having flashbacks of that gaping wound... :(

The announcers trying to build drama, all the while for the last 25 or so laps I'm watching the scoring data and listening to scanner. KDB was .2 or so secs a lap faster and I knew he'd be there with a couple laps to go. Sure enough, he was. The lack of fight or block still stings...

Look at the accumulation predictions - 1/4 of an inch Saturday, less than a 10th Sunday. That sounds like scattered light showers that will dry quickly and may not even warrant a yellow.

Yep hopefully! And this looks like the most dismal of the forecasts.

I could go with cloudy. I got a nasty burn there last spring haha
