2018 Martinsville - STP 500 - Pre Race Thread

Hahahaha, I had not even heard of the man until this came up.

Priceless, Senica. Priceless.

Pretty sure it’s free. That’s what I’ve read though. This will be my first time at this track.

Free is the best price!

When i went in 2003 for the fall race we drove down sat from philly then camped right behind the back stretch in a tent for literally $15-$20. We frooze our asses off at night. I was a junior in college and had just turned 21. I bought a 30 pack of old milwaukee at some ghetto beer distributor in North Philly (near Temple U. where i went) for the weekend. We watched the yankees-marlins game 1 or 2 of the world series at a guys camper who was from nj. Great memories...

I think it's like $125 now and campers only to do the same thing.

Two hours ago it looked promising here. Now there's five inches on the cars in the lot. I'd post a photo but I have no clue how to get a photo from this tablet into a post.

But at least the hotel gets MAVTV! I don't know what the SRL series is, but it's cars in circles so ....

I’m staying it Reidsville. It’s snowing like a bitch. Really thick stuff...looks like the “lake effect” we get in NY off the Great Lakes. Yuck

I made the trip! Safely at my hotel in Salem, VA!

Hey, me too! Great minds think alike!

No snow sticking here yet. I'm hoping the drive to Martinsville in the morning will be smooth sailing

You can park at the Honda dealership it’s paved, I think it’s $20.00.

Do you know what the parking cost for track lots is? Pocono and Kentucky do not charge.
The track lots are FREE!
Right now in Dansville, 30 miles east of Martinsville, snowing like a bugger...but nothing is sticking on asphalt. Not sure how much temps will drop, but if they do it could be an icy mess.

It's a lot harder to tell just how hard the precipitation is falling when it's coming down as snow as opposed to rain, at least by looking at the radar. Definitely looks like a lot out there though. Though I guess if it's not sticking to the concrete, they'll just have to worry about drying the track rather than plowing first.

Another thing, VDOT couldn't apply salt, due to the earlier rains. It's hard enough to get around Martinsville during Nascar Sunday's when the weather is fine.

Accuweather and the other “big” weather sites always seem to miss storms by a lot, at least from my own experience locally

I literally looked at 6 different things, NWS/NOAA, weather.com, accuweather, roanoke ABC, NBC and CBS affiliates before i left late morning. I think the local weather guys/ladies did the best. Especially the nbc crew. They had martinsville right on the edge of ok and deep crap...lol
..

It should stop snowing around noon, so I think there's a good chance the race starts on time.
