2018 Martinsville - STP 500 - Pre Race Thread

Around 10:30...I saw smoke several times during day, just don't recall when. Were you all roasting hot dogs?

Oh yeah.

It's controlled burning season around here. Gotta make them Benjamin's while the gettins good

I'm figuring that this was probably brought up earlier but am I right in my understanding that if they don't get qualifying in later today that they'll line up tomorrow (or whenever) based upon practice times ?

And if so, do they use first or second practice or some combination of the two ?

speaking of bent panels, look at the rear hook by the taillight decal from a bending panel.

Smfh... cup race doesn't start until 2 tomorrow. Plenty of time to try to get the truck race in before the cup race starts...

Amazing no snow/rain all day...I wait to last minute to buy truck ticket. As soon as engines are fired it began to sleet. How does that happen? Probably out my $35.

There is some serious falloff in the MPH through the lap averages. Lap traffic could be really interesting this weekend

So if it’s no qualifying who starts on pole?

I --think-- the current procedure is that if there is no Q, they'll start on based on fastest practice speeds.

So it's just like @Charlie Spencer and I said, they'll start based upon owners points.

from Jayski:

MARTINSVILLE, Va. - Defending Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series champion Martin Truex Jr,. would have preferred to earn his third straight official pole on Saturday, but with rain forcing cancellation of STP 500 qualifying at Martinsville Speedway, Truex is happy to take the result.

With the field ordered according to owner points after the rainout, Truex will start from the top spot on the grid for the third straight week in Sunday's race (2 p.m. ET on FS1), having won poles at both ISM Raceway in Phoenix and Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, California.

I'm perfectly fine with the truck race taking place after the cup race rather than before. I don't get off work till 3pm central time, so I'll miss most of the cup race so it'll be nice to still be able to see some racing.

Hillsville, VA, about an hour west on US 58. Light snow on the ground but paved surfaces are clear. Heavy fog in places on I77 around the state line but no real problems. We’ll see what the morning holds!

Blind hogs, etc.

I would have liked to see the truck race first, since I am attending and could then get back to the hotel at a reasonable time.
But, I assume they are running the trucks after Cup because of $. They will not let you in the grandstands with a truck ticket until after the Cup race. If they ran the trucks before you could just stay in the stands for the Cup race.

I've always wondered what would happen in such a situation. I'd assume most people who have a ticket for the cup race will simply stick around to watch the truck race. What happens when someone with a truck only ticket comes in and there seat is taken? I mean, seeings how the weather wont be ideal, if your seat is taken, there will likely be one very close by that's open so I guess it wont be a big deal this time.

The people with Cup-only tickets will end up leaving. Most anyway. Not sure attendance will be great given that the roads will suck anyway.

I made the trip! Safely at my hotel in Salem, VA! It started snowing just south of Lexington, VA but the roads remained wet. Time to relax and watch some basketball!

Got a rental while my car rests safely at my local airport back home. The parking lot is going to be a mess....lol

What is the deal with Mike Senica? I read he was black flagged and then stopped on the track, but I can't find any details or video.

I have a feeling I’ll pony up a few bucks to park in the first lot I find on the way. My car rides low enough as it is, can’t risk getting stuck in the mud haha

Do you know what the parking cost for track lots is? Pocono and Kentucky do not charge.
