2018 Talladega - GEICO 500 - Pre-Race Thread

not trying to be homerish lol but just honest with those picks lol, you see im not going with kyle this week. i would love for him to win. But i really like chase this week or ryan blaney.
You never know with Talladega. Kyle could win. :p It's unlikely, since virtually every driver has a shot to win these restrictor plate races these days, but it could happen. Man, if it weren't Talladega, the likelihood of KyBu making it a historic four-in-a-row would be quadrupled, hehe. I like that you are going with your gut choices, though! B)

Sure glad NASCAR changed the aero package so cars don't get airborne....

Seemed like Chase was running apart from the rest of the HMS bunch like Jimmie usually does. Wonder what's up with that.

I noticed that too. I saw SHR all running together.. was thinking HMS needs to learn this! Then I saw they were together, except... Chase WUT?

I wish I was able to catch some of it, I'm curious if he ran in a pack at all. They might feel like they have a good handle on the driveability based on past visits and February and are solely focused on speed, idk. An odd approach for sure.

Yeaa I been quite throughout weeek because I know them chevys and fords will be strong lol and I know this is chase best chance

Thread thoughts.
It was interesting to hear of fans pacing during the race as I would have never guessed it. Being entertained and exercising at the same time. Love it!
I wonder what the tire codes are this week?
Plate racing is not my favorite but I don't think it is going anywhere and a lot of people like it so it isn't something to pitch a hissy over. Plate racing is super easy to do an abbreviated viewing as normally if you catch the last 15-20 laps plus the extra laps you are good to go.
Glad to hear whatever happened to JMc did not cause him to become injured.
I hope the weather is good and the fans in attendance have a great time and that there is a first time winner or a driver that hasn't won for a while taking the checkers.

Ikr? I guess Denny Hamlin's win at the 500 two years is the most recent restrictor plate victory for Toyota.

Nascar is probably trying to avoid any drivers being killed .......... or fans
My fear is a car at front of pack gets launched into fence then a following flipping car goes thru the damaged fence. If anyone has a way to control speed and separate the cars into several packs I'm all ears. So far they haven't figured it out in 31 years. Yes, thirty-one. 1987 was when plates were added.

The early generation (first 4-5 years) plate racing saw more "bunches" than "packs". The "sling shot" pass was still effective in the late 80's, early 90's.There would be times when 1 car would check out on the field. I believe Sr. had a 10 plus second lead in 1990 Daytona 500 before a late caution set up history.

Bolt a big plate on them and keep them under 180. Flying cars is no bueno, tired of seeing it every year.

So what changed? To be clear you are 100% correct.
