2019 Darlington -- Bojangles Southern 500 Night Race -- Pre-Race Thread

Celebrate 47K at Darlington, but the blabber mouths are already scoffing at 50K at Indy. Hmmmmmm. o_O
Solid numbers, I don't know why people are expecting the Brickyard to sellout 100k seats. That's a nice amount now in days with 50k in attendance.

Dang that Byron kid dropped the hammer P1

Wtf is going on with the 18 these last few weeks? Kyle can drive of course but that 18 car seems to be lacking raw speed lately.

The 19 qualified 22nd, I wouldn't be worried.

Who's scoffing? Would be nice to get 65-70K and close off some areas for optics, but overall if its flat YOY then the sky isn't falling.

My son and I are making the drive from Columbia SC as we are visiting my sick mother in law.It is my first drive to Darlington from this direction, any help with best routes I would appreciate. Thanks
There are two main parking lots. One is behind the front stretch, you'll want that one if you're in Brasington, or in Tyler / Wallace from about the middle to turn 1 end of those grandstands. If that's you, just stay on I-20 and follow the signs (exit 134 or there abouts). Be aware there's a traffic circle between I-20 and the track. Also, traffic out of this lot is routed toward Florence after the race, so you may want the other lot even if you're in the grandstands I named above.

The other is behind turns 3 and 4, if you're in Pearson, Colvin, or the turn 4 end of Tyler / Wallace. If that's you, get off I-20 in Bishopville on US 15 North / SC 34. After about 14 miles, at an intersection with a light, US 15 will turn left; don't turn but stay straight on SC 34. After another 4 miles or so, SC 34 will making a sharp curve to the right and merge with four-laned SC 151. Notice the gas station at this intersection so you can find the turn again after the race. Follow the traffic to the track on the right. If you miss the gas station on the way home, go another 3 miles or so and you can pick up US 15 South in Hartsville.

Two years ago I got to the track around 2:00 and parked off the front stretch. That lot filled around 3 or 3:30. Last year I parked off turns 3 and 4. It's a bigger lot and didn't fill until around 4 or 4:30. If you get there early enough, the museum under the backstretch grandstands is a treat, but it's usually crowded on race day.

There's a back way into the front stretch lot from this side that was worth the trouble when this was a day race. It's not worth it now that the traffic has all day to trickle in.

Oh, and have a great time!

Sounded like my next door neighbor's kid trying to start the lawnmower
New mill in the 18. They will start from the rear.

“...Something is wrong,” Busch said after his qualifying for Sunday’s race. “I don’t know what’s wrong. I’m not that slow. That’s a second off of what it should have been. …

“Everything was fine until about halfway down the back. It started to lay down. It started to shake and vibrate. When I got out of the gas in (Turns) 3 and 4 and got back to throttle, it got worse. So, I don’t know. It fired up and ran fine here on idle, but if you plug your computer in order to check it and look at anything, you go to the back (of the field).”

Joe Gibbs Racing crew members switched out the engine on Busch’s car after the qualifying session..."

Damn. Appears as though Dorian's slightly northward tilt is bringing some off and on rain. There does appear to be a break about race time. Sure hope so.

Rain better go away! Otherwise, I'm gonna be mad and you don't want to see me when I'm mad!

Also, why is this race not on NBC? Is a replay of AGT really more important?

Lol Ken Squire quoting Vanilla Ice lyrics is so awesome

Crap raining.

At least it’s windy, blow it away please.
