2020 Cup Series Camaro ZL1 1LE

The point of the Nose looks less protruding

It does. I almost expected a flat nose like the Mustang, but it's still an improvement. There's still a slight point at top of nose near hood, but lower 2/3 looks flat. Surely they've redesigned it so that it can push in draft.

The changes likely involve just the nose, which get changed all of the time anyway. I will also point out that when you get down to millimeters, the actual race car nose may not exactly match the street car. In FACT, my guess is that Chevy is just using this "model change" story explain why they submitted a new and racier nose to NASCAR, and why NASCAR will likely, if they haven't already approved it. It just sounds better than saying "we were getting our asses handed to us, so we're trying to fix what we didn't get right the first time."

So they roll out a new body for just 1 season before everything changes again? Costs savings my foot, they spend money when they want to.
They might know more than the public does and I can bet you they are making an attempt to get ahead of the curve.

Remember these manufactures are making decisions for the top stock car racing league in the country. None of their choices are made with little consideration for the future.

Besides the nose and the hood, looking at the left front, that has been squared off, above the side skirt recessed more, quite a change in front of and above the rear wheel house. I would guess that the big honking rear wheelhouse on the older version was put in place to gain downforce under the old rules.

rear greenhouse has been widened to get more air off of the rear spoiler also.
I'm not sure I understand that. Please explain.

If this is the high drag / high downforce era, why would a team want to take air off the sheet of plywood bolted to the decklid?

Knowing the answer before ya ask the question? This condescending B.S. is getting old.

I’m still a believer that Chevy’s issue as a whole isn't with aero, it’s with the chassis and not being able to quickly adapt to an engine with a tapered spacer.

Toyota & Ford have invested far more money into Cup R&D than GM.

Which is so so dumb. Racing provides companies awesome opportunities to have expert drivers maxing out their technology. To not be all in is a mistake in my opinion.

A lot of the improvements Honda has made engine wise is because of what they’ve done in IndyCar and F1. This has allowed them to seamlessly move a turbocharged engine to most of the fleet

I thought we were in saving money mode awaiting the next gen car? Further, can Jimmie's recent struggles be viewed independent of a car that Chevy Performance deemed so bad that an emergency redesign was necessary?

It probably falls somewhere in between. 48 was a top 10 car for a solid 6 out of the 10 races.

Good observation, but this about the slight changes on the exterior. The company has only won three times this year, its a opprotunity in attempt to right the the ship after another mediocre season.

I see this as a test for 2021 more than anything else to build off of performance of 2020.

Jimmie hasn't been the same since his brake failure at Pocono.

Think it spooked him and took away that fearlessness. Biggest thing about racing, a lot of times it’s about who has the biggest balls

Yea, he did hit the wall at Pocono nearly at race speed. That would shake anyone up.

I always pay attention to the new guys when they have a big wreck. Some of them slow down after a big wall shot. At the cup level it is usually when a driver gets older. I think Jimmie saw his life flash before his eyes at Pocono. That was a really bad hit. He probably would have never raced again if he had been in an older car.

Yes, this is part of the parts freeze to save money. Build a whole new damn car.

Chad just said that the problem with the previous car was OSS made the areas they could work in impossible. Uh, Toyota introduced their new car in the low downforce pre-OSS era, had success, then fell victim to the free pass the Fords got in '18, and then came back even stronger in '19. So, I call bull**** on that. Engineer a car Chevy....but if you don't NASCAR will let you try until you get it right even in the midst of a parts freeze.

You mean chassis freeze.

Chassis development will slow down as the season continues, it doesn't mean you cannot make adjustments to the exterior body. Not to mention, Chevy needed some change from getting thier **** pushed in, like last season. The new Camaro has not resulted in a lot of success, so they made changes.

I see nothing wrong with what they did. Its only going to be more competitive with time and playing catch-up to Toyota and Ford I can imagine is not fun.

It gets even better.....Larson is now running his mouth about how the new Chevy will be better than what they had....Didn't he call BS on all of the Chevy drivers whining about the car last year? Sometimes, it's just better if he keeps quiet.

Wow, a Chevy backed driver bigging up the new body.

Man, he's certainly wrong about being confident about the car. Larson was confident last season with the new downforce package. Its just preseason hype you're reading too far into. What is he supposed to say? "The car is going to be **** like last season."

Not going to happen.

The extended parts freeze for the NASCAR Cup Series will remain in place through 2020, as development continues to shift toward the Next Gen stock car.

Maybe just say nothing. That would work out better for him I think.

Parts is speaking of mechicanal parts (chassis updates, limit up to 12 chassis, etc.), the rules mention nothing of exterior changes being outlawed in this case. Chevy must have been working on these changes for some time. The announcement was made is October of 2019, so there is no telling how long before the rule changes were set in stone, Chevy has been working on the body modifications. 2018 and 19 were dismal seasons for them, so with the data they collected they went back to the drawing board quickly.

Also, to think how long Chevy kept the SS from 2013 to 2017 with no major refreshes during the gen 6 era is pretty remarkable.

Oh for sure especially in NASCAR. The thing iRacing has taught me is how much a stock car is always slipping, it’s literally a game of chicken as those tires wear and you’re constantly adjusting how fast you can enter the corner and maintain the speed without losing the back end.

I seriously doubt there is a whole lot of money being spent that wouldn't have otherwise. They are putting new bodies on those cars CONSTANTLY, and if the new Camaro races better without them having to spend thousands of engineering hours trying to make it competitive, it might even SAVE money.
