2021 Food City Dirt Race Pre Race Thread

Track is in good shape at least, I guess as a one off it may be okay..

It probably will be a one off though.. TV ratings won't be as good as what Fox wanted because most people will be at work, and as we all know network executives aren't exactly the brightest bulbs in the lamp..

Oh and the last time Bristol put dirt over it's concrete surface, it ****** it up and forced them to repave

Have 13 acres of that "dirt" here in SE TN it does not absorb H2O the first 2 inches will get slicker than owl poop under that its damp but stays packed. A lot or iron in it concrete will stain I use Ospho rust killer to clean the concrete. The Cherokee Indians used this clay to make pottery, its about rock hard when dry digging a hole is labor intensive it requires a pick & a Mattock shovels do not penetrate it. My veggie gardens are raised beds in black dirt.

Okay, so, if I may ask, how is this relevant?

He's just doing his thing.
It happened in 2000 and 2001

They actually lapped Bristop faster than the Cup cars did on concrete.. Sammy Swindell hit 170MPH down the straights IIRC

They stopped doing this actually because the roads around the track couldn't handle the weight of all the dump trucks carrying dirt required to cover the track

It's good that some serious improvements have been made. At least those 80,000# T shirt, Television and Race related Haulers aren't tearing up those roads .

Honestly, this isn't surprising, the date has been plagued by awful weather for over a decade...

2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2021 have all either been delayed or postponed due to rain, that many washouts (combined with a much more popular later date), will cause people to stop showing up

Considering May, June, and July are also plagued by bad weather too, and run the risk of cannibalizing the night race, which is BMS' crown jewel, NASCAR's hands may be tied.

Plus, this gives Bristol an opportunity to host concerts and more non racing events

2014 and 2015 races were both ran on Sunday. So that makes 2014, 2015, 2016, 2019, 2020 all ran on Sunday

2020 wasn't run in April, so it's a red herring

2014 and 2015, were still delayed though..

Two races that started on time without any rain delays, in a seven year span, isn't enough to counter my point

the forcast looks great for next weekend so why not just wait and run this race and the truck race next weekend since its an off weekend for Nascar.
That would not really be fair to the fans that flew or drove a long distance. It's suppose to be nice weather tomorrow so I think they owe those fans a race tomorrow if at all possible. NASCAR will survive this just like they have every other race that has been rain delayed.

What did the dirt do to to the concrete to force them to repave?

Though, whether the Bristol Spring date does is another story

I'm more interested in getting an answer to my post 537. I'm curious what dirt did to the concrete that screwed it up so bad that they had to repave.

I went back and saw the practices.. The drivers looked competent out there, but with how Fox is promoting this, competent isn't good enough..

Sorry if I seem like a party pooper, it's just, I've seen races be overhyped numerous times, only to end up a popcorn fart.

It changed the pH balance. For years after, the track emitted a significant percentage of the greenhouse gases added to the ozone layer. That’s really why the track was repaved, to try to seal the gases in. That’s also why they added the progressive banking. More gases were being emitted from the upper part of the track where the dirt had built up during the races, so the needed thicker asphalt up there. Larry Mac doesn’t tell us about the secret layer of charcoal under the sawdust this time, to prevent it from happening again. That’s sourced from used Jack Daniels barrels, of course.

The gases were being emitted from the grandstand area 🤭

I have to work from home today because the road my office is on got flooded, so I’m gonna work from 8:00-3:00 and work* from 3:00-5:00.

Can you imagine what would have happened with Brian's great idea merchandise tent set up. It would be down the creek

Let’s go racing boys! I will say that mid April is the earliest they should run any race north of South Carolina

If NASCAR had stuck with the tent, it probably would be located on higher ground.

I know I was in the minority but I liked the tents. I found them far more convenient. I was easier to see the merchandise, I didn’t have to wait at multiple trucks, and I only had to check out once. I know some here have a nostalgic feeling for the trucks and their staff. For me, it was just a shopping transaction that the tens made easier.

Just me, I guess. It seems to work well for the PGA. I stayed dry in their tent, along with hundreds if other captive customers.

Well the track doesn’t look like it will be dusty. The rain outs might be good for the tv product
