'21 Generation 7 Car news

I'm interested to see how these things race this year on the big tracks. IMO you're going to have to use a 4" spoiler just to reduce extreme turbulence with a symmetrical car. Have to remember that it doesn't have that side to lean on like a sail anymore to catch it through the corner, so the air is going to just go right over that shorter greenhouse onto a massive spoiler and then deflect.

A 4" spoiler with 670 HP seems most ideal with a symmetrical car, but the leader is going to have far less of an advantage in my opinion than before. An even car is going to give off a hell of a draft at a bigger track. Still lets be honest, it's racing! Fastest cars are always going to be fastest. Just look at Hendrick last year, I don't care if it's 350 HP, those cars were nearly unbeatable at times.

I'm telling you guys, you're going to hear more about the situation as we inch closer to the Clash. It's been a topic in the industry for several weeks. I told you guys here that the major teams had almost no cars and then days later Harvick backed that by saying on the Dale Jr Download that the 4 team only had one car. And then days after that Roger Penske was asked what he thought about the next-gen and replied, "Wish I could tell you". Now, shortly after that we have new owner Brad saying the RFK organization is looking at running the first leg on the season with five cars as opposed to the allotment of seven for each team and is concerned about even crashing his test car because it needs to be used for the 500 too.

Do not be surprised if the gen 6 is used for the Clash. Those fleets are *not* being sold to be used as Xfinity cars yet for exactly the reasons Brad laid out.
 
Could be a problem, so far the car is proving pretty durable. But who knows with more Covid on the way what the hell is going to happen, that seems to be some of the hang up as it is.

My guess is they use the old car for the plate races. That's where most of the seasons wrecks occur. I wouldn't be surprised if they cancel the Clash entirely.

Still not my problem. They're going to race one way or the other, one car or the other, you can bet your sweet ass. If they have to run a few in the old car, so what?

I guess we could start a thread titled, Will they make a full season with the next Gen? Or Has the Next Gen lost a step?
 
Brad K said they’d have to start the season with 5 cars instead of the full complement of 7. Ten cars for the 2 charter team. And a 40’ trailer full of clips.

I think the teams will be just fine having recently demonstrated / advertised the ease with which these new cars can be repaired after suffering major crash damage. Brad has been running out of a stable of 15 or 20 cars for years. He’ll probably adjust.

That's not what he says, re-read the article. Five cars for both the 6 and 17.

NASCAR has never been wrong. They have no idea what is going to happen next 2-6 months. The whole globe is still in the throes of a pandemic. But let's not let that get in the way of a little racing.

You can't do that and admit that the new car isn't ready. Not to mention you haven't been telling teams to prepare old cars. Heck I have to imagine some of the new/smaller teams probably don't even have an inventory of old cars to run

The latest variant of Covid will make Jan-March look similar to last year during the height of this mess. 75-80% of the US is "over" the pandemic. Just move those bodies over out of my way. I have a party/marriage/sporting event to get to. Much more important than doing everything I can to keep my fellow citizens safe.

But you're missing my point. Are ALL the parts for the new car built in the states? I doubt it. We will see. Running the old car at plate tracks seems like a simple way to reduce parts needed. They have those parts somewhere. It's either run those cars or the plate races will be a friggin parade with no actual racing. Maybe not after middle of season but early on, I wouldn't be tearing stuff up.

I don’t really care if they have to run the Gen6 at the first at least 2 plate races. If anything it will help the car count for the Duels.

Those races are my main concern. How many cars come back from plate races fairly undamaged? 10-15? They could wipe out 10-20 cars easily. They "can't afford that" with the new car. They can dig up some of the older cars. Call Harry Hogg! He has one out behind the barn!

Here are all three tested packages with the test races, just done simultaneously:


Both six inch centered and offset look okay, especially during the restart. However, it falls apart after à few laps.

The four may not have the big wow factor on the restarts, but it looks more raceable over a longer run producing more passing opportunities and the leader did not run away either.
