Couple other photos from that weekend and the rebuild.

Plan is to test next Saturday with Pro-Mods, Aug 17th @mike honcho

Don't ask how much money has been spent. We fell from #1 to #4 in points, and have Memphis at the beginning of Sept. Pretty much have to win that race and Tulsa in October to get the championship.

you got your name on the valve cover mags!

So great to see you spending so much time with your father.

The bracket engine had chrome valve covers, when we went with the all-black theme to match the blower, we decided to put our name on the VC's.

I've actually not spent much time with him out on the shop on this rebuild, I've been busting butt making income and working on the employment deal.

Dad had to overnight the torque converter to get it fixed so we can test Saturday. Found an ancillary issue when we went to hang the trans on the engine.

That is a very good looking car Mag. At least when you break a crank you don't blow the body 30 feet in the air.;) How many runs do you put on a crank? We put 8 and then we send it out to be checked and if it doesn't have any bad cracks we sell it to a buddy of mine that is building a nitro car in Orange. He won't be running as hard so he should be able to put at least another 4 or 5 runs on it.

That one broke with 75 on it. Another guy that had his engine apart for other reasons, had his crank fluxxed with just over 100 on it, and it was cracked in the same spot as ours. Both being Callies Magnum. Another of our friends had his Bryant Billet checked after 150 runs, it was cracked there too. Hopefully our Winberg will make it to 200...or we might just yank it after 150.

Heard back on the converter...input shaft was twisted half a degree at the end of the splines, that's why it wouldn't seat all the way in the converter. That's the second Coan 300M input that we have twisted. This one had only 7 runs on it. Coan is backordered, too.

Marco Abruzzi says that this is a recent change for Coan. They didn't used to twist this easy and he only had it from time to time, now he is having a ton of them come in twisted. He's not sure what's up.

Well, it's not fixed to our liking, but it went down the track.

Round trip from Home to Memphis and back is 1,040 miles.

First run was a shutoff, Q2 was a 3.94, Q3 was a 3.94, and Q4 was a 3.98. Round 1 was a funky pairing and neither driver crossed the finish line under power (it's a bracket racing thing) and we got the shorter end of the short stick. It was on a 4.00 run, maybe 3.99. Pole was a 3.77, we ended up #9. 20 took time and 2 broke.

The track wasn't fantastic, the air wasn't great, and we were trying to make sure parts survived.

@Nitro Dude and anybody else that knows how to identify a dead hole, check out the #2 exhaust pipe at the launch on Q4 onboard. It didn't pop up on the data logger, but that's why I run an onboard camera...just wish I could see both banks at once.

EDIT: It did it in Q3 too. That explains something that I DID see on the datalogger.....

Not sure what plans are from here.

I'll post more media tomorrow night.

Hell even I saw the dead hole. Don't know what caused it but I saw it.

Looking at the car a little bit this evening.

Go look at my handheld video of Q1. Watch the left bank right after launch.

something is not happy somewhere.

@Nitro Dude it's a good thing we don't run Nitro...that'd been ugly.

Found some hydraulic leaks at the check valves of the fuel system. Was running on 18 injectors instead of 10 at the launch, hence all the extra fuel looking like dead cylinders.

Fixed the check valves tonight, and have a new fuel control solenoid coming tomorrow that I get to wire in. We haven't been running one and now is as good a time as every to plumb it in...

Went testing last night. Wanted to run a 5.9x but the air wouldn't support it. But we achieved what we wanted otherwise.

I'm tired. My body hurts. I want sleep.

We went back up to Tulsa for the Fall ThrowDown. We won the Spring Throwdown.

It was ridiculously cold Friday night. 55 degree ambient and falling, 65 degree track and falling. The track didn't have much rubber on it, and the glue wasn't sticking due to temperature.

Saturday morning the engine barely turned over, but we didn't have time to fix it since they quick-called us (lack of communication from track to racers) before we had even warmed up. Several racers didn't make it to Q2, we were last car around the corner for the session.

After we got back, we put a heater on the battery thinking maybe it went dead from the 38 degree overnight temperature. It was better for the warmup before Q3, but at the ready line, it barely turned over just enough to catch off the gasoline primer.

We got back and swapped out starters after Q3 hoping that was it, we carry a spare starter but not a spare battery (they tend to go dead in the trailer anyways). Luckily it was.

Came back from E1 and looked at the data and saw a large 'flare' in the RPM curve at the shift. It's the result of an extended neutral between low and high gear. Basically, it means the direct clutch is not engaging properly after the low band releases. We weren't sure how much ET we would lose from it, but we knew from Topeka last year that it wasn't going to last long before it torched the clutch pack.

So we dialed a little safe for E2, and took out the #2 guy in points to effectively freeze the standings. #1 guy went out round 1, we took out #2 guy, and we were #3 and mathematically ineligible to catch #2.

Round 3, we had the #16 qualifier with a full second handicap. He didn't leave us much of a window to get in, and we didn't give ourselves enough padding on the dial for the transmission to do us any favors.

Scott Palmer brought all 3 of his cars- Top Fuel Dragster, StudeZilla (Nitro ProMod), and the Nitro Chevelle (Nitro ProMod) driven by JR Sandlian. Neither NPM got more than a few feet, the TFD went 4.07 dropping cylinders and pushing the head gaskets out.

Let my best friend drive the Camaro last night. Nothing unusual about that, as I've been letting her drive and basically was the one who taught her how to drive. She had improved remarkably, but that rep crumbled last night lol. Backing out of her driveway, she turned into her grandpa's car and ****** up the quarter panel on the front passenger side. We've spent four hours trying to get it fixed so far.

I've been driving the Firebird since Friday due to both trucks being down at once. I'm not really used to a hood that sticks out 8 feet in front of me blindly, so I'm being really nervously cautious in closed spaces. I can't even imagine driving a WS6, i'm told it's pretty much driving completely blind and I believe it.

Yeah man, I'll admit, it's kind of a narrow space to see out of, but I'm still surprised that it happened. I guess it's the difference in being used to it vs. not being used to it.

What's the matter with your trucks?

Dakota's been leaking power steering fluid (think i found a loose fitting, hopefully that's it...but it was coating more like a slit hose), I had a minor incident with the ram that resulted in trying to drive it on the "spare tire", and discount didn't have a replacement tire anywhere in DFW. Yea F that "spare tire". They're supposed to have one tomorrow morning from out of state. Apparently it's not a common size/model combination.

You guys seem to have a bit more knowledge pertaining to the ins and outs of cars, so I have a little question for @Magnethead or @BobbyFord, whoever can get back to me first.

Continuing on from my posts in this thread a week ago, I was driving my Camaro over to my grandmother's two nights ago. As I went to leave, the parts that my guy had tried to fix showed signs that they weren't quite "fixed." The main thing that I saw was the tire well was halfway off and torn, and it was right up against my tire. As much as I wanted to try and solve the problem myself right away, I chose not to because it was late at night and it would have ruined some plans. Since the car wasn't going to move, I chose not to risk any more damage and left it parked in her yard for the time being.

Today, I was informed by my friend that her grandfather said the tire well was of little to no importance and could just be ripped off, and my car would be back in my hands. From what I understand, he claimed doing so wouldn't harm the car too much as long as I stayed out of mud and puddles. Is this factual, or could I be facing corrosion and what not from driving around like that for too long regardless of terrain and weather?

Regardless of whether it is safe or not, I do plan on getting a replacement as soon as I can. Hopefully after that, I can start setting out on my long-awaited plans of turning the humble 3.6L V6 SS into more of the genuine firebreathing monster that I know Camaros can be. I already have a few things bookmarked for my car; it's down to a matter of when my money is not looking too funny. :D

The fender liners just use plastic rivets. They're not essential, but do help keep things clean and contribute mildly to road noise reduction.Depending on how much Gulf Salt you get, it can actually be beneficial to pull them back from time to time to wash out any accumulated salt and grime to prevent rusting.

Back to the dakota build...

Made 80 pounds of oil pressure with the priming shaft and electric drill. Had to open up the notched rib a little bit, but the timing indicator cleared just fine.
