This may be the saddest post I've ever read here.... I feel like motorsports are just better on TV.

Too soon to tell. We don't even know the exact details yet, much less how they'll play out on the track.I may be the outlier here, but I'm actually kind of looking forward to this, in a way? Don't get me wrong, I'm not entirely thrilled by the concept of changing the way races play out, however I am incredibly interested to see what the teams come up with regarding strategy to try and maximize points. If (and this is a big if, I realize) they break the segments up intelligently, this concept actually might open the door to some wild strategy plays and some seriously hard racing much earlier in the events. That to me, is interesting, especially in the context of watching these guys drive harder early in a race, especially as the Chase bubble tightens. I will say though, the "win and you're in" thing needs to go if the rumored changes are true, because NASCAR will still retain the stupidity of having a driver win early in the season and then coast to The Chase, which I really think has contributed to a lot of the boring races we've seen recently. Ideally, I'd like to see The Chase go away altogether, but I won't waste any further energy tilting at that particular windmill.
The CART Series went into complete failure, and open wheel has NEVER been the same. Be very careful for what you hope for. I used to sit with a really great guy named Barry at Portland International during the CART years, and he said one year, "This is all going to be gone, and never come back." I thought, "No way in hell!" Then it was, and he was right.
While I agree with your basic points, I gave up on both of those games at the half. Two completely lackluster, but genuine, NFL conference championship games were played today in which one team was simply much better than the other. There will be no format changes next year or five years from now to ensure that every game is close and that standings remain close. In their infinite delusion, prominent figures in NASCAR continue to tell us that football is always exciting and dramatic throughout. This is what racing lacks and why football is so successful. The sport of stock car racing continues to have the life choked out of it by their incompetent hands.

Brian France is an idiot. I used to live and breathe NASCAR.
Listening to NASCAR Radio this morning. Mike Bagley to the longtime fan: "It's not your time anymore."
"This will force them to race harder."--Pete Pistone....who has never driven a race car.
"This will end the boredom."--Dave Moody

The end is near for Nascar. This will be it.
I don't think racing will end, but I think you'll see a split in the series in the next few years. France has ruined this "sport".
I commend your ability to power through that clown show still. I had to stop listening.Listening to NASCAR Radio this morning. Mike Bagley to the longtime fan: "It's not your time anymore."

That's what it's looking like, but it's all hypothesis until tonight.Does anyone know if they will have breaks at the end of each segment?

I mean, I agree with you on the quit bitching so much part. But your statement contradicts itself. You're saying that nobody knows what the exact changes are yet and to quit complaining, and yet you're guaranteeing we'll get more excitement. But you're right, we are where we are regardless of whether or not we like it.So much negatively just like the rest of the world....blah blah blah do any of you even know what the exact changes are yet???? NO! Do we have an idea? YES! But have we seen it in action? NO! I for one don't like the one million commercial breaks every 10 to 15 laps it seems. That should change. ... I for one am a believer in fabricated cautions already so whats the difference. This will for sure add more excitement to the middle of a race hands down! I AM NOT A FAN OF BRIAN FRANCE EITHER! So don't read me wrong here! Personally I prefer pre 2004 points/formats etc. But this is where we are and obviously our voices have not been heard because NASCAR does not listen to its fans. But just adapt or leave, quit your bitching!
They seem to continue banking on making changes that'll make people curious, and then hoping they're interested enough to stick around. Hasn't happened yet, won't happen this time I don't believe. The fact of the matter is until they take the absurd amount sideforce out of the cars, they'll never make the racing as good as it was pre-COT. Right now with those giant ride side panels and sharkfins, etc, etc, it's too damn difficult to make a pass in 'dirty air' because mechanical grip means so much less than it used to.
Same, I don't think they should have a "break" either.I hope we are incorrect about that. Although it is unclear to me.
I just smashed the like button so hard I need a new trackpad. Hallelujah!Lower the downforce and sideforce on the cars. Raise the cars a couple of inches off the track. Make the driver the key difference and not aero. That will improve racing and fan interest...not gimmicks.

I hope NASCAR caves and becomes extinct.
Mike Bagley is pretty proud of himself today. He won some NMPA award. He cannot be wrong. He won an award. Should be noted that this is essentially an award for broadcasting given by the NMPA. Fans are not part of the equation.
I hate a lot of stuffAccording to @LewTheShoe that makes you a hateful person so now there are at least 2 of us.
Agree. I wish some one else had a real shot of starting a new series with out all the crapThe end is near for Nascar. This will be it.

Nascar didn't need to shove loyal fans away to begin with, the sport was extremely popular when they started the chase, and by doing so, they started to shove the loyals fans away.
Notching that up, will not fix it.
It almost feels like they are taking the "make it break it" approach with this.
Either they appeal to the younger audience and pull them in, or they shut down.
The whole season has been this way for me for some reason. It just didn't have that excitement this year as previous years. Not sure why. I suspect because of the amount of commercials has become ridiculous and I have found better things to do.The NFL games this weekend were kind of blah to me. At one time I enjoyed the games, now I don't go out of my way to watch.
The sad thing is that they don't need to be at a make or break point. They just need to right the ship. Start with the cars. Raise the cars off the ground, remove the side skirts. The racing will get better from that alone and then we can discuss the best way to improve the racing format.Well said. It took Nascar many years of Brian, the chase, bogus cautions, incessant rules changes and the like to get Nascar to where it is today. The proper way to restore the health of the series would be to take a measured and long term approach that featured incremental improvements. Unfortunately Nascar is out of time and is reduced to taking huge swings to see if they can hit on something that will add new fans and appease existing ones. I think Nascar will always be around in some form but as far as them having any real meaning or relevance they are at the make or break point.
