Charlotte - Bank of America 500 - Pre Race Thread

Am I the only one shocked that Trevor Bayne couldnt qualify on time? I mean.. how does a Roush car not make the field... not a good sign for him for next season.
Yeah, I didn't watch qualifying so I didn't read that until the net day. Roush used to be one of the top dogs at these 1.5ers. Times are a changing.

Same here.. It just doesnt make sense to me that a team tha fielded two chasers would put a car on track that cant keep up with the likes of Timmy Hill, Landon Cassill and Josh Wise.. nothing against those guys obviously but the equipment Roush fielded should easily have been able to out run those teams.

Exactly. Doesn't make sense to me either

Says the kind of state Roush racing is in. As bad as their full-time cup cars are, I guess it's only natural the part-time one puts the s into suckage

I understand that we're talking about RFR so the blinders come out in full force but it seems to me that Edwards and Biffle are starting in front of Kenseth, Kahne, Logano, Keselowski and Johnson. Nor does Bayne have the luxury of points to rely on.

Mhmm... so then what is it? Bayne sucks? Come on... there's something more to it. You dont need points to rely on if u can run fast... and the fact that the other guys ran so well just makes it worse really.

This is the driver that is replacing Edwards?

Not only did Bayne not post at least the 36th fastest time of the 44 cars who made qualifying runs (he was 37th fastest after three attempts). Bayne and the No. 6 machine were beaten out by guys like Cole Whitt, Michael Annett, David Ragan, Alex Bowman, Landon Cassill and Michael McDowell who qualified 36th-31st respectively. This is not a knock on any of those drivers but if you’re RFR than you simply have to do better because what you’re doing right now is not good enough.

Exactly.. I'm baffled.

Take me to the river.... N drop me in the water.. :pbjtime:

no brainer, I think the Richard Petty Fords will do better then the Roush's next year. Hornish and Almirola are a heck of a lot better then Stenhouse and Bayne and as good or better then Biffle.

Too bad they can't count on Carl to carry the team anymore after this season.

o_O Better then a truck/nationwide champ with 19 cup wins, and who makes the chase every year? Can't wait to hear this one

Well, looks like I'll be watching this race tonight. I had plans to go to Orange County Speedway to watch the KOMA Modifieds, but they cancelled the race tonight due to rain. The series won't race there til the 25th and I'll be at Martinsville for the truck race then.

Another tire fiasco? I hope not.

Goodyear has warned teams that increased speeds at Charlotte Motor Speedway will put a heavy emphasis on the right front tires in Saturday night's race — a potentially key development for drivers trying to advance in the Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship.

Stu Grant, general manager of worldwide racing for Goodyear, said Friday the tire manufacturer provided durability guidelines a day earlier for teams to use in their preparations.

"They have got to be aware of the additional load that that speed puts on that right front tire," Grant said. "The air pressures that you ran in May may not be sufficient to carry the load on that right front this weekend because they're running half a second faster than the track record. ... it's important that as these guys set their cars up that they're aware of the additional camber gain you're going to get with the additional load and you need to watch that air pressure because it's got to be sufficient to carry that load."

Certain teams have been ignoring this all year. This is nothing new. Goodyear is just doing their best to keep idiots from being idiotic. Good luck with all of that.

Biff, do I have to give them the lowdown on Greg?

At 45 he's no spring chicken, but he's the best at RFR at the moment and I like his loyalty to Jack. Greg has been there for years, but I hope he can win that Sprint Cup to complete that triple crown...

He came real close in 2008. I believe he was leading JJ by 65 points until Carl forgot left from right at Talladega.

I think Bayne is completely capable but there may very well be more to it. Who knows what they were trying with the #6 in an attempt to get an edge for Edwards.

He ran 30th in 1st practice (ahead of Stenhouse) so there was no need to give him another team's points - as we've seen done in the past with a couple of high profile drivers.

Geez, that's a ton of excuses there, and Bayne doesn't even wear a bikini.

IMO, Bayne is another Allgaier. Nothing more.

LOL he's the best at the moment? o_O

Did you forget Carl has two wins and its still in the chase and poise to get into the next one?

How many wins does Biffle have? How many wins has he had over the past 8 years? Just as much. He's consistent but that doesn't give you best at any moment. Specially when your teamate are winning 3+ races per year.

Competition caution tonight at lap 25 to check tire wear. All that heavy rain has made for a green racetrack.

I'm not counting Carl since he's leaving. He will be the guy at RFR. That's all I'm saying, I should have said after this season.

Carl is no doubt is top 10 in terms of talent. I cannot wait to see him tear **** up at JGR.

I should have been more specific.

Been watching the pre-race show on FS2. Interesting to see that FS2 is now in HD. Very cool. Also, they have Sam Hornish Jr. at the desk. Not doing a bad job at all.
