I don't think he was a bad guy. But I don't think he really was a great guy. And certainly may not have been father of the year..
One of his employees (perhaps in the DJD) more or less talked about how Dale Banned basketball at work. So, one of them was playing basketball after work (his right) and tore up his knee. Apparently the next day, Dale kicked him in the knee and lectured him, ultimately about what his employee does on his own time.
The employee more or less thought Dale was a miserable human being.
And to be honest, that kind of behavior is dog****, imo. Kind of hard to respect someone who would kick someone with a knee injury BECAUSE of the injury. It shows a lack of respect, empathy, and selfishness. I don't really care how mythified he is in the NASCAR world. It doesn't make this kind of behavior (which seemed to be the norm) any less ******
