Also, top-10 driver should be the expectation for a rookie in the Truck Series. This is a series where above-average race car drivers win races as rookies. I've seen drivers who I previously felt had less talent than Deegan win races as a rookie in the Truck Series.
All this talk about misogyny but the truth is, if Hailie Deegan was a man and had this kind of hype and following, the expectation would be for wins, see Joey Logano.
When she ran in ARCA, in a series with five competitive cars, she averaged a sixth place finish. She was talked up because of top-five finishes (in a series with 12 cars and only about 5-6 competitive cars). She was next to last in points among the drivers who ran every race, only Drew Dollar, who is being called one of the worst drivers in the history of the sport, finished behind her with more wins and an equal number of top-five finishes.
She should be contending for top-10 finishes every week. Right now, she's racing mid-pack with a bunch of average, mid-pack drivers or above-average drivers in subpar trucks. The results aren't there.
I really want the kid to do well, it'd be good for the sport if she did. But, right now, she isn't the great hope for the sport. I'm afraid that, on this current trajectory, she's running in the back half of the field in Cup like Danica.
