Oh, I'm sure terrible master criminal Rick Hendrick will find some parts around.

This way Gordon gets legitimately beat, no excuses.

He was legitimately beaten in the first 25 races. On one hand, I find the 13th spot hilarious because Jeff Gordon isn't going to create some "Underdog" story where he suddenly rockets up to the front in the last 10 races to secure the Championship. However on the other hand, I think the 13th Chase Spot really hurts the sport and cost NASCAR some serious credibility in terms of being a legitimate sports organization.

That's what people said about their decision to let the teams work on the cars during the red flag during the Coke 600.

There's a dangerous trend of Helton & France making decisions that go increasingly and increasingly outside the bounds of any rules.

I wonder where it ends.

In this case they were forced to do something. Newman drove his ass his off and should not have been denied by the bull**** losers that messed up the race. Once they were forced to act, Pandoras box was opened with no perfect solutions.
I think Nascar has been as fair as possible given the situation.

If a referee blows a call this year, I wonder if the NFL will add a 13th team to the playoffs to correct the wrongdoing?
Hey, I live in Wisconsin. Remember Packers-Seahawks last year? The Packers should have been awarded an spot in the Super Bowl for this outrage.

But, "fair" and what's "right" don't mean the same thing to everybody, which is why we're having all these big important serious internet fights on this issue. When you open Pandora's Box and go outside the rules in the name of making things "right" and "fair", then it becomes a slippery slope.

Yeah, the Pack definitely got screwed in that one. There should have been a 3-team Super Bowl: the Ravens, 49ers, and Packers ;)

Hey it's not "fair" the only one driver gets to be the Champion! In the name of "fair" and doing what's "right", all the drivers are champion and should get trophies!

Three-way football game, each team gets 10 minutes on offense and 10 minutes on defense. ;) Some high school football conference did that around here once, to decide the championship because three teams were undefeated. MIke Helton must have been the commissioner then.

I read dozens if not hundreds of comments all around the internet saying Jeff Gordon was screwed. Now he's in the Chase and people are pissed about that.
To be fair, I would argue that the majority of people complaining that Jeffy got screwed were fans of his, and the majority of people who are complaining that he got added in are not fans of his.

Mind you, I obviously don't have any raw statistics to back that up.

The problem when comparing sports like the NFL, NBA, etc to NASCAR is the fact that it is standard operating procedure for NASCAR to take points away as penalties during the year.

If a team like my Patriots is caught cheating, they aren't docked 2 wins. They are docked a draft pick. That is the difference and it is a big difference.

NASCAR needs some hard, firm rules put into place. They need to stand by all the rules they have created too. Penalizing the MWR stable isn't a big deal cause points penalties come down all the time. Arbitrarily adding a driver is a big deal. Putting a team that was already on probation, on probation without some kind of penalty is ridiculous.

It's just so jumbled. I am ecstatic today because my guy got in like he should have. I still like the chase even though Gordon would have more Championships without it. I think it adds entertainment and drama and I'm not gonna lie, I like that. HOWEVER, I don't like the drama of NASCAR making up the rules as they go.

That said, anyone caught cheating should be ineligible for points the rest of the season. You get all wishy washy like NASCAR did this week and teams have no incentive not to cheat again.

It's not the new 13th spot that cost NASCAR serious credibility in terms of being a legitimate sports organization, it's the stupid chase point system that did that.

What's the difference if it's 12 or 13? They reset the real points after the 26th race to make it interesting, and expect the fans to pretend the reset points are real. lol

Football, baseball, Hockey all reset team stats for the playoffs.

Difference is they reward you for your hard work during the regular season.

In any other sport, the regular season pays off, in NASCAR, not so much.

Giving top race teams different schedules would be boring, but who else gives bonus points for season wins?

Doesn't the top NFL team get a bye before the playoffs? That would be your bonus point.

In the NBA the top seed gets to beat up on the 8th seed so theres another bonus. lol

Home field advantages equals up to the same differences.

nascars top seeds get to take points from 20 or 25 also rans every week.

stats-------what are odds 1 team gets 5/13 spots in playoff ?

Don't confuse team with organization.

I still think it should be a full season championship. When it's decided, run some big cash, win at all costs races to close out the season.

what in the hell is nascar doin lol

i actually like it. hell it's just nascar, **** it

I think they oughta let 'em run what ya brung for The Chase, meaning the cars can skip the tech inspection :D
Yep, Jeffy can break out the magnesium manifold, Clint can bust out the rocket fuel, and Joey can run that dog tracking rear end housing. That would certainly make things more controversial and exciting.

Dumbest move ever, Nascar. Now you reward a mediocre season with a chase spot??

Should have put David Ragan in before Gordon.

Kahne and Newman had mediocre seasons too and they are in.

Hell they even have worse average finishes than Gordon overall this year so kick 'em out.

Newman didn't get in by the end of the race, so he shouldn't be there anyway. Kahne did get in, you can't compare him to Gordon.

It must be really hard to understand that the end of the race results weren't actual race results.

I think it's the fact that honestly everything that happened Saturday screwed Gordon over, every single last thing cost Gordon a spot in the chase, Martin would not have been in if none of it happened, Gordon would have that's what it comes down to.
I have nothing against Gordon being put in the chase. I'm simply saying that the #22 deserves the same penalty as the 56 and should be out of the chase or they should expand it to 14 drivers and let Martin back in. What they did is worse than what MWR did.
