Hamlin fined for comments

At the risk of being fined for actions detrimental, what could be the issue with transporting this...

that isn't even half of the Titan system.

I haven't commented on this subject yet because I can see both sides of the arguement. NASCAR is just like any other professional sports league and not allow participants not to be critical of the product, officiating, etc. At the same time, Hamlin has a right to say what he feels.

I tend to agree with what Jeff Gordon said today. By fining Hamlin, NASCAR brought more attention to the comment. I didn't know he had said that until the fine was issued.

I really don't understand what NASCAR wanted Denny Hamlin to say. I guess these guys are supposed to be paid actors. As far as the new track drying system, why hype something you can't handle. Like you've never had rain delays in February or March. What a load of bs. Everything is basically ready for the 10 westbound as it sits!

Well I guess that means I can quit watching speed, prerace and post race interviews, and any rain delay stuff. Why listen to anymore driver interviews when now we know it will all be manufactured B. S.

Both of which look road worthy.

So we're up to drivers for 2 power rigs, 2 vac trucks, 2 specialized dualiesand 6 air blasters. Vac trucks typically don't travel long distances, so throw them on a flatbed. That's 5 rigs and drivers spending 3 to 5 days transporting it to the race, hanging around for 4 days, then driving to the next track. All to transport something you don't use 85% of the time.

Sorry, the whole thing makes no sense unless most tracks have their own set. The thing works great, but it isn't very feasible.

Then why make it in the first place?????

Use rigs and compressors based near the track and haul their sweepers and f-350's on a couple flatbeds? I'll drive one haha

Good idea, but you don't find those compressors and generators just anywhere. I guess nascar felt the chance of rain wasn't worth the effort. It wouldn't have made a difference for today anyway, but I wonder what their plan is for Pocono and some others tracks that get rain more often.

My guess is the same plan as today?

I just love that I read an article saying that Hamlin said he will NOT be paying this fine. He said that if that means he has to sit races, so be it. Rouch, or whoever the hell he drives for, said they are behind him 100% on this. Asked for their reaction, NASCAR baiscially said that he has the right to apppeal and will be allowed to compete during that time and that can take weeks, so let's just not talk about it right now. Oh and then they said "next question".

I'm not even sure he has is right, but I just love anybody standing up for what they believe in, as long as I don't find their beliefs immoral ot just really stupid.

I do find it funny though that he is getting into a pissing match with NASCAR. That's almost as bad as arguing with a woman. You are handicapped by the need to make sense while they are in it simply for distance and irritation. ;)

Give 'em hell, Denny! :dual9mm:

Qualifying rained out yesterday. NASCAR has fined Mother Nature $25,000 for actions detrimental to stock car racing.

LOL. Apparently she can pay it off in installments of sunshine starting with Pocono but will still be on probation until December 31st of this year.

I think she should just get suspended for the rest of the year so she can't mess with races.

I will bet a cup of coffee nascar walks this one back in the appeals process. They crossed the line here and Joe Gibbs is going to allow them to save face. If not, the other drivers need to either speak up or stop being interviewed all together.

I don't think we'll hear anything from a NNW regular should one win today. The fight's over in cup and I'm waiting to see what happens. Driver reads a prepared statement declining comment? Their PR person fields the questions? Going to be interesting for sure, or maybe amusing if gas is thrown on the fire!

If NASCAR is going to censor what drivers can say then I will never again believe what a driver says. I guess this is NASCAR is the same as WWE.

These cars look good thru the bumps going into 3 :D

Any one of them could be replaced with a cough button (although I do like Mike Joy).

As for a driver, that's where things get a little more dicey. If Hamlin maintains his position and NASCAR suspends him, what does The Coach do with the 11 car? Brian Scott? Scott Riggs maybe?

Gibbs will pay. Either by writing a check or having it deducted from a future purse. FedEx paid big bucks for him to be in that car, if he's not Gibbs might have to cough up a healthy rebate

Mike joy is the only one I care for too. I assume Elliott Sadler would drive, I doubt he'll get suspended though.. In Bill France sr's NASCAR maybe but not Brians

Dale Jarrett -- NASCAR champion, three-time Daytona 500 winner, two-time Brickyard 400 winner -- said Friday that NASCAR's $25,000 fine on Hamlin seriously jeopardizes this sport's credibility. "If a driver says this new 2013 car is just great, who now is going to believe him?" Jarrett asks.
