Hamlin fined for comments

Mike joy is the only one I care for too. I assume Elliott Sadler would drive, I doubt he'll get suspended though.. In Bill France sr's NASCAR maybe but not Brians

Brian Vickers or Sadler are probably the most logical choices to replace Hambone. I hope it doesn't come to that.
But NASCAR has drawn a line in the sand and for them to retreat would really show the public their true colors.
They MUST make an example of Denny or run the risk of looking quite foolish - more foolish than they already do...

Dale Jarrett -- NASCAR champion, three-time Daytona 500 winner, two-time Brickyard 400 winner -- said Friday that NASCAR's $25,000 fine on Hamlin seriously jeopardizes this sport's credibility. "If a driver says this new 2013 car is just great, who now is going to believe him?" Jarrett asks.

Good interview! Thanks for sharing that!!

Any one of them could be replaced with a cough button (although I do like Mike Joy).

As for a driver, that's where things get a little more dicey. If Hamlin maintains his position and NASCAR suspends him, what does The Coach do with the 11 car? Brian Scott? Scott Riggs maybe?

If the fine isn't overturned someone will pay it. If not Denny than Gibbs will pay it.

I could see this becoming an issue where Denny stands his ground and tells Gibbs not to pay the fine.
It's gonna be interesting to watch, that's for sure.
Kinda puts the Dan-Icky relationship on the back burner - for now anyway! :p

Kudos to Dale Jarrett for speaking the truth! I have always felt that even the media is in Brian Frances pocket to some degree and is intimidated by nascar. DJ obviously isnt.

My take is that Joe Gibbs is going to give nascar an ear full. JG has integrity and everybody knows it and the France run mafia does not and everybody knows that. Joe is going to let nascar have an easy out at least on the surface but if they dont then who knows. Brian France and his crooked lieutenants have a decision to make.

Danica must have gotten jealous with all the attention Denny is getting...that's why she positioned her head in front of that rock :)

I have always liked DJ and his father.

Accordions to Dillner, Truax unofficially off the records talked disrespectfully about the Gen6. Having such an opinion qualifies him as being a s.o.b.'ings, p.o.s.

Nascar needs to secretly fine him, and get their mafia to beat him up with the rock they clubbed Danica with, then put a dead horse in his bed to learn him.

That's right they proactively clubbed Danica just because she talks too much. That makes her loose a cannon, sooner or later a disrespectful thought will leak out, hence a justified clubbing.

We need to get you on the NASCAR fan council. TV ratings and attendance would go through the roof over night... :pbjtime:

I'm coming in late to this conversation but, I've read, re-read and then re-re-read Hamlin's comments... and still can't figure out what is so "detrimental" about his statements. Slander isn't slander if it's true, and Denny's opinion isn't "detrimental" if it's true.

Dale Jarret told it like it is, whenever a new car design is introduced, there's a learning curve and improvements in the design come along... even Hamlin himself said as much in the comments he made.

To be honest, NASCAR's handling of this entire fiasco has been far more detrimental to the sport than anything Denny said... like D.J. said, anything NASCAR or the drivers say about the new car will be suspect.

Then again, I could be wrong...

Good post, you are not wrong you nailed it.

Excellent post
But I have done a lot of research based on Jarretts interveiw.

Yep. It amazes me that NASCAR fails to recognize and understand PR mishap after PR mishap. I saw a poll on the web site of a pretty big newspaper, I think the LA Times, where 92% of fans sided with Hamlin over NASCAR.

Yup. NASCAR screwed the pooch on this one.

Yep, here is the link. It was 89 percent siding with Denny when I looked. That is a huge number. Time for nascar to back peddle this one before it really gets out of hand. I think they should issue a public appology on national tv.

The same way as politicians...

By allowing others to fight/argue while resorting to name calling and insults until they forget why they disagreed in the first place, thereby giving Nascar/politician a free pass? Sounds about right:confused:

I wonder what the NASCAR PR team really thinks. Inside the doors, they have to be soooooooooooo friggin mad.

They are wondering why on Gods green this happened. WHY GOD WHY!

Probably so. They would be smart to sleep walk thru the appeal and let Denny win. Recinding the fine and saying they misunderstood Denny's comments would be best, but this is nascar we're talking about.

They would have to admit that they were mistaken about something and that would be a tough pill to swallow. I say they'll stick to their guns - right or wrong.

Unfortunately, that's how it is. If nascar was smart, they would realize that publicly backing down is the best thing to do for the sport. If they persist, they themselves should be cited for actions detrimental to stockcar racing.

Yeah, NASCAR's PR group certainly has their hands full right now. Short of an on-track or spectator death, it's hard to imagine NASCAR getting off to a worse start than they have in 2013: the fan injuries at the Daytona NNS race, a new expensive car that hasn't come remotely close to living up to the hype, and now making themselves look like a bunch of jackasses by fining Denny Hamlin for doing nothing more than giving his honest opinion. Other than maybe the NHL, I can't think of a major sport that is more mismanaged than NASCAR.

My personal opinion is they spent about 15 seconds thinking about this because they could care less what anyone else thinks as long as they feel it was the right thing to do. Look at their corporate track record, they stand by their guns as they should. I'm not defending or attacking them, just sayin. Come on guys, how many fans will they really lose over this, 1, 2, 3, my guess is none, in the big picture it is a trivial corporate matter.

I don't expect any real fans will stop watching NASCAR because of this. Denny has always been kind of a hot head and I think the shock value of a Gibbs driver being fined has kind of worn off.

Maybe not but they still look like a bunch of inept asses.

The only one that come close in my mind is the ncaa basketball people. They still have a good ways to go to be as crooked as the France mafia.

To some maybe, but to a lot of others its their business, especially corporations, but to most people I know its a non story.
