Illegal communication between teams?

Why would they penalize the 22? Will nascar start penalizing guys for letting another driver lead a lap?

If teams are communicating with other teams, they should.

It is the rules. But we all know the NASCAR rules are really just guidelines.

The Bowyer point didn't affect anything either.
Neither did the Vickers point.
Neither did the Gilliand point.

Yet all this **** went on to get them huh?

Moral of the story is, NASCAR banned communication between teams. It's cheating.

lol nascar banned DIRECT communication between DRIVERS. They never said they can't talk to each other, or Chad would be in jail by now.

Where have you seen direct communication with another team??? Am I missing it somewhere?

NASCAR released a statement Wednesday afternoon that reads: "NASCAR is aware of reports about the #22 and #38 radio communications at Richmond International Raceway and is looking into it, but has yet to see anything in full context that requires any action."

From USAToday

Well, nascar mucked things up again by not being more specific about how far MWR went.

IMO, nascar can't do anything, because multi-teams organizations do this all the time without penalty.

"Breaking news! NASCAR probing No 22 team, Logano for possible violation."

In other words, nascar finds a way to keep the media interested in nascar for a few more days. I suspect there will be a 'breaking story' like this every week until the end of the chase.

I agree, unfortunately Nascar needs to be firm with what is and what isn't acceptable. However this is pretty close to what MWR was busted for in the end.

This is ridiculous. A Pandora's box has been opened and there may be no turning back. I really hope this isn't the beginning of the end of the scanner communications @ the track for the attending fan but I'm afraid it is. :(

So who sent this golden ticket to the AP? Genius.

You are right.

Nothing is gonna happen because there is no "proof" that the 22 team asked for the spot. As if the #38 spotter just came up with all those quotes by himself.

That is only cause NASCAR is a joke. This is as bad as MWR cheating.

How is it close? If you accept that drivers have been giving up spots in all forms of motor sports for decades, it really becomes a matter of how far you go to get it done. If nascar lets the media push them into doing something, they will have to look into things and issue penalties every time a driver lifts for another.

nascars easy out is Logano is in without that point anyway. I hope they use it.

So the audio clearly implies that Roger Penske himself was on the spotter's stand trying to bribe #38 to let Logano pass, right? That is the accusation here, right?

Like I said before that news conference, I hope nascar doesn't muck this up even more. They can't let the media push them around as they did in the Edwards incidents. All the media said "You told them to have at it, so you can't do anything about it". nascar caved and refused to say 'the line was crossed'. MWR crossed the line by going so far. If nascar does issue penalties to placate the media and Gordon fans, they will have a nightmare on their hands for years.

Things are quite easy. Don't whine when you get caught cheating. If you are going to cheat and blatantly ask another team for a spot, more power to you if you get away with, but don't complain when you get caught.

I didn't hear anything like that, but I did hear Gilliland making some demands.

@nascarcasm

Want to help your Chase hopes? Don't race your way in - just say falsely claim over the radio some other team requested help.

I'll say this final thing before I move on from all this hoopla.

NASCAR is going to great lengths to keep Gordon out of the chase.

They've had two oportunity to shove Gordon into the chase and yet they have their collective asses firm on the chair. This is near discrimination already.

Here's a great idea.....

@TheOrangeCone

Here's how to fix this: make the championship worth $100 and put all of Sprint's money into race purses.

They wouldn't have these issues if they just did the right thing in the first place.

The MWR cheating blatantly affected Jeff Gordon's chase spot. They should have put him in right there.

Now they get more of this bad publicity. Their mistake.

I think the nightmare is already here.

A voice on the radio, believed to be crew chief Frank Kerr, asks who the request is coming from. The spotter replies: "We've got the big dog and all his cronies."
--
"the big dog" here is Penske himself. Who is often on the spotter's stand.

No over all I agree with you. Nascar admitted that the only proof of wrong doing MWR did was Ty Norris telling Vickers to pit without a justifiable reason. Then they penalized all of MWR. So here you have Penske's team manager making a deal for another team to give up spot/spots. So where does it end? If you penalize MWR for an unjustifiable pit stop, shouldn't they do the same for making backdoor deals for track positions?

I read that audio transcript as Penske himself is standing next to #38 spotter making the request and negotiating some sort of payment/reward/quid pro quo.

That seems like a big deal if that's what happened.

Again, is Roger heard offering a bribe? Is anyone from Penske heard offering a bribe? Not that I heard.
