Indycar @ Houston

Thanks Sebastian.... Hell of a race though.

It wouldn't be a stretch to say that this is the most competitive professional Series on the planet. You never know who is going to win any given weekend.
Yeah, I was against the move from V8 to V6, but it has made the series so competitive. Any team has a chance to win the race, it's really up to the driver. That's why I'm pro the theory of NASCAR moving to a V6.

Oh wow good job Graham......

Beat me to it. Awesome competition.

Neck Nation would have a stroke if that ever happened. Sure is working in Indy Car though.
They're against it but I think it's coming. Probably in about 5-10 years. I think depending how well their planned hp reduction through throttle bodies next year works.

6's sound ok turbo'd injected... not so much unless they have the displacement close to a V8

The local short track here Slinger Speedway has a class called "Stinger Bees" (pun intended, I'm sure) for four cylinder engines only. I think Sprint Cup should move to four cylinder engines just for the laughs.

I just love V8's... I can't help it.

Maybe Carlos Huertas will show more emotion when he finds out Columbia won that soccer game.

Me too, no replacement for displacement and there's something uniquely American awesome about V8s. But, in a competitive environment, the bigger engines seem to consolidate power to the bigger teams that have more money to invest in engineers.

doesn't make any difference, unless one company made all the engines as close as possible, but then teams with the most money would figure out how to make the chassis better, doesn't cost that much to make an 8 over a 6, in fact because of the larger displacement, small horsepower differences aren't as large as it is with smaller engines.

Ya, a lot of these foreign guys seem to think IndyCar is a GP2 or F2000 class series, just another stepping stone on their way to F1, so not a lot of excitement when they win these races. :(

without seeing the specs, I would guess they have the exact same displacement, valves, cams etc. They do the same in Nascar.

Right?!

No, I don't think it's that restricted. When they first introduced the DW12 in '12, they actually had the engine spec a bit more open. Honda used a twin-turbo and Chevrolet used a single turbo and IndyCar tried to change the rules to a single turbo once the season was underway and Chevrolet actually sued IndyCar to stop the rules change if I remember correctly.

I haven't kept up with the indy engine too much, One of them was having reliability issues but I can't remember which one it was.

might be where they are from, not every country hoops and hollars like the US does...except Castroneves.:):)

Hondas seem to be the most troublesome since they made the switch to the V6. They still get about 50 hp less than the Chevrolets on the ovals, they say, but they still are winning a fair number of races, including the one today. The Lotus that only ran for a 1/4th of the 2012 season was the real ****ter of the bunch.

You may be thinking of Lotus. What a joke that was..

great entertainin race. crappy finish......tho good ta see young fuentes win one.
hope tomorrow's as good .

turbo v6 in nascar ? not in my lifetime hopefully.
sound itself would kill that idea.
then car weight.....engine life.....etc

Yeah, they had their regular street car engineers try to build the Indy V6 and found out quickly that you can't just build a high-rev small V6 and compete against HPD and Illmor (who designed the Chevy V6). They were going to bring in Judd to redesign the engine and IndyCar/Honda/Chevrolet even agreed to let them redesign the engine in between 2012/2013 (which was forbidden by the rules originally) but that was right about when Lotus Cars got a new CEO and I'm sure the price tag was expensive.

Hey, dawg, didn't you just say in some other NASCAR thread that you were open to new ideas? :D

It may or may not be a direct result of the engines but the racing in F1 and IndyCar with the turbocharged V6s has been pretty good.
