MFR Shop -> New Car

I'm excited to see your new car when it is done. It sounds like you are making a lot of progress.

Disassembly time for the camaro. Just have to roll dragster out, spin camaro around, pull motor, put it on the stand, then move camaro back over, roll dragster back in, and place motor in it.

Today's update:

Family from Sealy, Tx (outside of Houston) bought the camaro.
Turned the dragster sideways, and started working on the motor.
Did a leakdown, all cylinders at 2%, except #2 at 35%
Pulled the head and piston, found that all the piston ring gaps were lined up
Re-mounted the piston rings, put piston back in, leakdown was down to 20%
Moved piston down to BDC, leakdown was 5%
Moved piston back up to TDC, leakdown settled at 7%.
Put the head back on and called it a day.

We aren't sure what is up with #2. #3 had aslightly leaking intake valve, but we're not going to worry about it.

Dat garage.

You literally have a roll-up door FOR the dragster. *bows*

hey, there's perks to having a 3 car garage with 3 separate bays. Got a 22 foot, 35 foot, and 23.5 foot. Works out great....because you know we bought the house for the garage, the living quarters are just an added bonus.

Next time I come to DFW area I have to check you out!!! I'm really impressed
You have family down here as I recall? Give a yell next time you're this way.

Old transmission is sold and getting picked up tomorrow night, new transmission and torque convertor from FTI Performance arrive on Thursday, all we have left to do is change the valvesprings and rocker arms, put the intake on, then we can set it in the car and finish the electrical and start the wiring.

Oh, and I don't think I ever posted that we already had our stainless steel headers delivered, as well as a tool tray and scoop mount, and the scoop. So once motor is in, wired, and plumbed, we'll be pretty much done, and waiting for the truck and trailer.

Got the engine mostly together. Still waiting on a new timing belt and have to get the vacuum pump sorted out, but everything else is almost ready. Put new rocker arms on and changed the valvesprings. Lifters looked good so we'll make them last another season- we run a VERY high zinc motor oil with bronze lifter bores to help them last longer.

Meanwhile, one of our friends is just now starting on his winter re-freshen, getting his axle rebuilt. 200+ MPH is not kind to axles. Not sure if he's going to be servicing the blower or not.

Drinks good beer.

Engine block should be the same color as that Meziere pump :)
LOL. We were going to re-paint the block (It came black from Dart), but what the motor plates don't cover, the Diaper probably will. We just washed it with some diluted simple green and called it good. If anything, it would be orange ;)

Orange?!!!
Blasphemous.

I'm showing 1653 pounds, plus fluids plus body panels. That's way light. Most dragsters are in the 1800-1900 ballpark.

WOW! What a project! It is great to see what you and your Dad have accomplished. I think the greatest thing about your racing venture is the relationship you must have with your father. Not every family has that and you and your Dad are very fortunate. Best of luck in the future with all things.

Your new car is looking really good Magnethead. I can't wait to hear how it runs. Tell your dad i said hi, and you all have a Merry Christmas.

Finished the electrical todaya and did the smoke test. Everything worked except the starter, turns out that having the starter solenoid mounted to powder coat doesn't make the best ground. So we ran a dedicated ground for it and that got it working.

Fittings and hoses should be here tomorrow and the plan is to go look at a truck we found that would make a good tow rig.

Computer and dash will be back from programming on Friday, then we can start hooking all the sensors and dash system up.

After that, all that should remain is the fuel system plumbing.

Thanks, Whiz.

Picked up a tow rig today. Stole it for2800 off the list price, just over what the dealership had bought it for. It was traded in for a 14 model, and was owned by an employee's parents as a ranch truck. It has a class 5 13,000 pound trailer hitch, and looks like it had a fifth wheel hitch in the bed. Has the 7+4 way trailer connector on the bumper and a 7 way trailer, 5 way unknown, and 8 gauge power and ground goIng to the side of the bed. Also has Firestone ride-rite airbags, and rancho shocks on all 4 corners, with the backs being adjustable. Full LS leather interior with EGT and boost gauges in the A pillar.
