NASCAR considering radical changes to playoff system

Very seldom, and teh points are based on the entire year, no chase crap.

So, all the people up north are lying when they say the NASCAR National Championship isn't fair because we don't have inverts down here (yes we do) and "Keith Rocco actually passes cars"????

Glad to know the NWAAS National Championship will be staying in the Tri-State (VA, NC, TN) region!

Ive never been a fan of the Chase since it's inception but looking at the the last five versions of this Chase as compared to this new one, it looks like this one is certainly scripted to produce the most excitement. I'll sit back and give it a chance. I don't have much of choice anyway.
Same dpk. We dont' have a choice so lets wait and see.

Honestly... I think NASCAR would be better off without the fans who are so opposed to everything they do. I've said it before and I'll say it again.

Cars + Track = Racing... Im satisfied.

The main thing I love about racing is every week... not every year. The championship is not as important to me from a fans stand point as the weekly races are. Now don't get me wrong, I love the intensity of a championship battle... but really who can say this won't produce more intensity in that battle. Yeah so a driver can win every race and blow a tire at Homestead and not win the cup... Guess he shouldn't have used those tire pressures or run over that debris. A non contender takes him out? Shouldn't have been around that guy... it all comes down to the decisions these drivers make on track and what their team does off track that will win them the cup.. so it may not be fair if someone is taken out by a non contender... who said it's supposed to be fair? Why should a guy in 20th I points not try to pass someone racing for a championship at Homestead and go for the win?.. Don't want to wreck fighting for position?... let him go. They're the ones who decide what to do, and when and how to do it.. and they're the ones who will suffer from it or reap the rewards. Luck is a big part of racing and if someone is unlucky enough to be taken out in the last race after dominating the first 35.. too bad for them.. so sorry... try again next year.

When it comes down to it... I'm going to watch every race the same as I did before cheer on the drivers I like and boo the ones I don't. Any fan that thinks otherwise... the sport is better off without you.

End of rant.

Not sure what you are talking about here, there is plenty of passing at Stafford, Thompson, and Waterford where Rocco races....some of the best racing around in my opinion.

Jimmie's car for Homestead. Now I have it in the right thread. LOL

The following image presents champions under every format:

The IndyCar system is a great system. Larger points intervals in between positions the higher up the finishing order you go and a plateau after a certain position towards the bottom so poor finishes don't hurt too badly. The champion almost always has one of the top two or three win totals and one of the top two or three average finishes.

Don't tell me how to fan, bro.

Im not.. Im saying NASCAR is better off without fans like that. Whether you fall into that category or not is none of my business.
NASCAR is better off without fans who think this

is a pile of crap? Hop off.

Hmmmm none of the short tracks I go to around here in the north east do this crap, all championships are based on consistency throughout the year as it should be!

Gotta agree with Mopardh, none of the short tracks I go to have The Chase. I don't mind things like The Cone, Inversions or re-draws, because they're gimmicks that are often kept to a few selected races.

Well, I'm out. Brian France has managed to remove what little was left of the Winston/Nextel.Sprint Cup fan that was left in me.

Anyone that wants to leave just bc of a points switch up has all the freedom to leave. The true fans of racing will still cheer on their favorite driver to get the win to qualify them into the chase & then cheer him on to make it to the eliminator round.

I'm not going anywhere, but I have to admit that the championship seems to mean a lot less now, and I probably won't be into that aspect of it as much.

It was before my time, but I've always heard that in the 50s and 60s, the championship wasn't really a big deal, it was more about the individual races. Guess I'll have to approach this season like that.

It looks like if you have a bad race race you are out of the chase just like the current system. A 15th place driver has a chance to finish in the top 10 (hmm - my bold prediction has a better chance now) and I'll be pretty upset if one of the leaders got knocked out in the first round.

All we can do now is enjoy the weekly races and see how this system plays out. I'll probably whine about it at the end of the season.

Wait, I can't be a true fan of racing because I've given up on NASCAR? So if I spend countless hours and drive countless miles to race tracks all summer long, staying from the first sprint car or late model heat, all the way to the last u-car feature, my fan-ness is invalid because I think NASCAR is overblown and no longer true racing? Damn.....

At this point, I'm leaning towards this stance too, but I'm not sure. I'm obviously extremely disappointed that this is what we have now.

I will very grudgingly admit that there is one thing about this new system that I like, and that's the fact that the regular season points leader is guaranteed a spot in the Chase if they happen to go winless. I could write a dissertation about everything that I dislike about it, though. Among other things, I hate the idea of having all these point resets after the Chase starts, and the fact that Talladega is in the Chase now ticks me off even more than it did before. As you and others here have already said quite a few times in this thread, the championship is all but meaningless now.

I watch tennis, and I don't really care about the rankings or end of the year point totals in that sport, just who wins individual matches and the four Grand Slam tournaments, which I basically view as championships. I guess if I'm going to continue to watch NASCAR, that's how I'm gonna have to look at it, but it just feels so wrong. NASCAR wasn't tennis or any other stick and ball sport - until today, that is.

It would be funny to me if JJ never won another championship because of the new format.

Any 7 time champion fans agree? lol

I'm gonna still watch, but it's a stupid points system honestly, even if they had it last year and EVERYTHING played out the same way(which I doubt because everyone would had raced different) and Jr won, I still would say it's stupid. It's gonna make winning Championships on the games a hell of a lot faster lol.
