Random NASCAR Stuff to talk about.....

Question for you...assuming Kurt got his anger under control , has some respectable finishes for Finch this year , and rehabilitated his image ......what do you think he could do in the 42 car next year ? Would he be a chase contender ?

Yep. I think quite a few under performing vets are worried about where Kurt will make his comeback, and when. He could get a top ride later this year if Finch can't hold up his end of the deal. Either Ganassi driver could be on their way out.

My weekday morning and afternoon posting days end tomorrow. I'm actually going to have to start working for my money again. :(

Only way Kurt will win races is fuel mileage. That team isn't good enough to run in the top 20 on a regular basis.

It's not even looking good enough to finish the year out.

  • Phoenix Racing may not run full season? UPDATE: In an interview Sunday night on [SPEED's] "Wind Tunnel with Dave Despain," Sprint Cup Series team owner James Finch said "there's a question" whether he will be able to run the full Cup season with driver #51-Kurt Busch. Asked by Despain if there was a question whether his team could do all the races, Finch answered: "Well, we're trying. There's a question. We're off and running and trying. We're talking to some people and going from there. We're headed to Kansas this weekend and hopefully get in the top 10 there and then come back to Talladega and have a really good run. We're optimistic about it. Kurt has put a lot of effort in it. It's kind of like a small team getting a big-time quarterback," Finch said.(in part from the Charlotte Observer)(4-16-2012)
UPDATE: Dave Despain: Dealing with the sponsorship issue, are you feeling good to go for the season or is there a question of whether you guys will be able to do all the races?

It's kind of like a small team getting a big-time quarterback. Last night (at Texas), it was 480 miles before we got a lap down. The pit crew did a real good job with all the green-flag stops. We're just trying to catch up with Kurt. Kurt's got the speed. We're trying to get the crew chief up. We're trying to get the pit crew up to be able to handle what Kurt can do. Hopefully, we're getting there."(full interview at SPEED)(4-16-2012)

I don't think anyone believes that Kurt will win races ( fuel milage or otherwise) with his present team.Top fifteens would be /are an incredible achievement . Additionally , not blowing up at his car owner ,sponsor , or the media are achievements . This whole process is an attempt to put Phoenix Racjng on the map with sponsors and at the same time rehab Kurt 's career . It would be a real shame if Phoenix Racing cannot find enough sponsorship money to continue , but there are big teams in the garage area with the same problem.

I haven't heard Kurt get nasty with his team, and we know that if he did, Spencer would be all over it.

NASCAR Image Of The Week: Victory Lane Celebrations Gone Wrong

On Saturday night at Texas Motor Speedway, Greg Biffle held off Jimmie Johnson to score the win in the Samsung Mobile 500. As is tradition at Texas, Biffle donned a cowboy hat and fired two six-shooters into the air while in Victory Lane.

This well-known tradition begs the question: Have other tracks attempted to work their own local customs and/or attire into their victory-lane celebrations?
The answer is YES, albeit unsuccessfully. Here are a few notable failures:

Kyle Busch at Kentucky:

Matt Kenseth at Daytona:

I can't help but think that sooner or later some screwball antigun activist is going to put a stop to this fun and our PA Politicaly Correct NASCAR leadership is going to let them.

Thats a great idea, I'll get right on it.

While counting the points they need to be the champ, they don't want some mad man coming at them and birthing a deal like Matt Kenseth had at Martinsville with Brian Vickers.

With guys loosing their seats faster than ever, the "loose gun" theory has lots of traction.

Tweet from NASCAR writer Dave Newton about his flight to Kansas for the race this weekend.....

My pilot for kansas city leg looks like David Reutimann. Not sure if we are guaranteed a spot on runway.

boy, did Barack look uncomfortable around all those Nascar drivers. I bet he had no clue half of their names
