Random NASCAR Stuff to talk about.....

Two NASCAR team planes collide on ground at Concord Regional Airport

A team Joe Gibbs Racing team plane collided with a parked plane from Stewart Haas Racing at Concord (N.C.) Regional Airport on Sunday night as NASCAR teams were returning to the Charlotte area following Sunday's Crown Royal 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

A team spokesman for SHR said an empty and parked SHR plane was hit by another plane as that plane was parking. The plane's wing hit the tail of the parked SHR plane.

No one was hurt, the spokesman said.

Lmao. Awkward phone calls ensue.

Now is your chance to become a pit crew member.....

SHR is having an open pit crew tryout at their facility on Tuesday, August 12 at 3pm. The team is looking for crewmen of any skill level, past or present, or anyone one who is looking to get into pitting.

Menard's team not happy with Montoya: A run-in with #12-Juan Pablo Montoya early in the Brickyard 400 on Sunday may have cost #27-Paul Menard a place in the NASCAR championship shootout. It also left his team livid. "It's stupid," crew chief Slugger Labbe said as the team loaded Menard's crinkled and scraped Chevrolet onto its transporter at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. "People have no respect.... I just don't get Juan Pablo, what he's doing. It doesn't make sense. You'd think the guy would come over and apologize or something." Menard slapped the third-turn wall after he was hit by Montoya on the 32nd lap. He lost two laps for repairs and finished 34th. "We're running for a spot in the Chase, and some part-time racer left-rears us and puts us in the fence," Labbe said. "Then you're done." Menard was not available for comment. Montoya was making just his second Sprint Cup start of the season. He returned to IndyCar this season after seven years in NASCAR. "Obviously that's why he's not in our sport anymore," Labbe said. "He's never used his head, he's always wrecked people and he got us. It probably knocked us out of the Chase (for the Sprint Cup), but...we've just got to fight back in six more races." Menard's finish dropped him four spots in the standings to 16th.(Milwaukee Journal Sentinel)(7-29-2014)

Still in chase position

Wouldn't Larson and Dillon be the first official rookies to make the Chase since Hamlin in 06?

And if BOTH make it, this would be the first time that two rookies have made The Chase.

The current issue of Hemmings Muscle Machines magazine has a story about Fireball Roberts. I didn't realize his injuries/death started the car safety movement in NASCAR. (All racing organizations were reluctant to spend money on safety at the time).

We probably need an age cap to keep people as old as Juan Pablo Montoya off the track

This is of minor relevance but I just read an article about how John Henry uses non-baseball financial consultants to make payroll decisions. I wonder if that philosophy bleeds over into how much money he gives to Jack. Might explain the downfall of the team and letting Carl and Matt get away.

Sad that he probably died from the extinguishers used to try and save him.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- NASCAR will not allow championship-eligible drivers to participate in a Goodyear tire test at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

But, to ensure fairness, NASCAR will allow all organizations represented in the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship to participate in the Aug. 26 test because Homestead is the site of the title-deciding season finale.

Teams will have to send a driver not qualified for the Chase to the tire test.

The restrictions create a dilemma for Team Penske, which has both Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano already qualified for the Chase. The two-car team does not have another Sprint Cup driver on its roster.

Hendrick Motorsports also has three of its four drivers qualified. Should Kasey Kahnequalify for the Chase, Hendrick would have to look outside its immediate organization for a substitute.

Would Penske just send Ryan Blaney? What happens if Marcos Ambrose wins at The Glen?

What about the whole situations with guys being qualified on points? What if Paul Menard sneaks back in while Austin Dillon is also qualified? Who does RCR send?

Why in the world are they adding the STUPID restriction of not sending a Chase driver?
