seems right to me for one of the best lines ever.

That old truck stop a few miles east of Holbrook is where I usually slept the first night out when heading east on 40. I would leave the race shop in SoCal in the morning and arrive there around 10.00 or 11.00 pm. I chose it because there was always plenty of parking.

It is so nice watching one of the RF members actually going out and enjoying himself on a trip with his wife and friends and sharing the adventure with us. This beats the crap out of anything that goes on in the podium. You can only handle so much of the same 4 or 5 members spreading their half baked BS and attacking other members on a daily basis before it gets boring. Thanks Clutch for sharing all of your pics.

I missed the beginning of this adventure and managed to find it this morning. Did a cursory viewing of the photos and then a second run later. The photographs are some of the best I've seen and wonder if you have formal training or special cameras, that make the pictures so sharp and realistic - I know pictures are supposed to look realistic, that's why they are pictures - but these are clear and give a sense of actually being there. The ones taken of the Chicago skyline from the top of the building, the old service stations and motels, and those of the Grand Canyon are beyond belief.
My Bride and I visited many of those same places and it would be a sure bet none of the pictures we took would stand out like these.
Great job, Clutch!! Keep the pictures and copy coming. And thanks for taking the time to share your once in a lifetime trip with us. Doubtful many would ever see the places you have visited on this journey let alone have a travelog from a guy and his wife from New Zealand to show those what many living in the good ole U.S. of A. are missing.

Don't neglect those of us sitting in far away places who are always cheering you on. Keep the pictures coming and the race results. I'd be willing to bet some of us never had a clue of how intricate it is to race the cars you do and especially against the quality of competition you face in these events.
I'm sure people like to read about, and see pictures of, the adventures of DPK, Clutch and his travels on Route 66 and Nitro Dude's drag racing!!

Spent the night at Sam's Town, RV resort.
Never been there before on my trips to Vegas but I love the place.
Took an Uber from there to @BobbyFord family in North Vegas for dinner. So great to catch up since the race earlier this year.

As the end of your traverse of Route 66 now coming to a close it looks as if everything went with few glitches. Just as it should.
Good planning and good fortune were with you making the trip enjoyable.
Loved the pictures and was showing them to my Bride this morning after we returned from breakfast. She feels the same as I in that they are excellent photos and the places selected to take photos were good choices.
What a memory and a lifetime to enjoy the memory of a lifetime.

There used to be a slot car track about 5 miles from that casino, and when I would race there, I would stay at Sam's Town. A few years ago I stayed there for a week for a 3- day race. I checked in on Christmas eve and stayed in a room with a view of the inside courtyard and man did it look awesome with all of the Christmas lights and trees. I don't gamble much but I signed up for the free players card because that entitled me to a free buffet there. I was going to watch a movie in their theater, but I had about 20 minutes to wait so I decided to put 5 bucks in the dollar slot machine and won around $500 on the second pull. I went straight over and collected my winnings. I won the race that week also, so it ended up being a free trip with some money left over after I returned home. I wish all of my trips were like that.

I used to live on Ocean Ave right down from you until I bought a boat and lived on it in Tahiti Marina in Marina del Rey.
My grandma used to be at Country Villa Assisted Living at Santa Monica blvd and Bundy. She's closer to my Aunt in Rancho Cucamonga now. My cousin used to live off Ocean Avenue or Neilson Way, around Strand or Hollister. I went on July 4th and watched the fireworks on the pier from his patio.
Home now. Arrived yesterday to pretty nasty weather here. Windy and periods of rain. Missing the heat.
So Route 66 is 2448 miles they say. With our add ons we managed 3644 miles including the RV drop off in Fillmore, CA. I’d like to see @dpkimmel2001 beat that feat.
Our add ons….diversions really enhanced to experience. They included Memphis Tennessee to see Graceland, Monument Valley in Utah, …and Antelope Canyon 2 hours away back in Arizona….AMAZING.
Then of course the Grand Canyon which is epic.
The trip was by no means cheap. Gas for the RV was $1500. But the price range from central’s to east was incredible. Arkansas was $3.40 a gallon and Cali it was $6.60 where I was.
Now I complain about the roads down here a LOT but you guys have some rough roads…..especially the further east you are.
Crazy the amount of trucks on the highways. All of them great drivers….They often passed me but if I was passing one they would suck me toward them when I came along side then push me away as I made the pass In the RV.
Anyhow we loved the driving the Mother Road. Bucket list check off. Great memories.

I know what your saying about passing those trucks and your rv with the wind. Those things are like driving a brick down the road. When I do pass one, I give them plenty of room knowing how my truck affects their travels. My wife and I experience it towing our 40' 5er rv as well.
Always best to create those 'Remember When' moments in life rather than the 'What Ifs'. Glad you enjoyed you journey. Color me jealous.

That was a fun run ride, thanks for bringing us along. Really cool pictures. I went to some of those places when I was a wee lad with the family. We made it as far as Vegas before we had to get home. In the years past if I had the time on the trip, I would venture off of the interstate when possible driving my big truck to catch some of the beauty this country offers. Thanks again Clutch.

Thanks Clutch, that was an amazing journey you took us all on. You showed me places I have never been and probably never will go. I’m glad you had a safe trip across our country and hope you get the chance to return someday.

Didn't eat out all that much. We bought a BBQ in Chicago and used it at the campsites quite a bit. But the Big Texan in Amarillo does stand out as the winner for me. Such a cool place. The RV Park is a half mile down the road.
And the attraction would most likely be Monument Valley and Antelope Canyon because they are natural attractions 2 hours from each other. One above ground and one below.
I did love the Graceland tour tho.
Clutch, you really brought back some fond memories of traveling with grandparents, parents, and husband. Your wonderful pictures really brought home how truly beautiful the USA is. I really loved the pictures of the motels because "back in the day" we stayed in a lot of them. LOL

I love the old nostalgic Motel signs as well. I took more but it was challenging posting everything from my phone.
We did stop in Barstow, CA on the way to Santa Monica. They have quite a bit of R66 stuff on Main St.
Really, hard to pick then best things on the Route. We loved Chicago.... Would love to go back. The St. Louis Arch was amazing! And I really like Oklahoma City.
The Route 66 RV Park in west Albuquerque was just amazing..... Amarillo... The Meteorite Crater.... Petrified Forest... Graceland, Grand Canyon. Loved it all.
