SILLY SEASON 2018

Wolfe signs a multi year also. Nice

The multi-year extension ensures that the 2012 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series (MENCS) Champion and 23-time MENCS race winner will continue to be an integral part of Team Penske – the only team he has driven for full-time over the course of his 10-year MENCS career.

The announcement follows the news that No. 2 team crew chief, Paul Wolfe, has also agreed to a multi-year extension with Team Penske.

And the Captain says:
“In the time that Brad has driven for Team Penske, he has risen to the top echelon of stars in NASCAR,” said Roger Penske. “Brad and Paul have established a terrific, winning combination and they are both real leaders within our team. More than just wins and championships, Brad is an important part our relationship with Ford Performance and his work with the Checkered Flag Foundation shows what kind of person he is away from the track. There is no question he continues to be a great fit for our organization.”

Kasey Kahne or NASCAR/Goodyear,which one will have a contract for next year first?I believe Goodyear has NASCAR in a situation where they can dictate anything they want.
Goodyear doesn't have any competition. Kahne? he's not coming back to Hendrick in cup unless his Indy win has long term primary sponsors knocking on Hendick's door.

Goodyear's renewal is crucial for Nascar, no doubt. Goodyear has leverage. Their departure would be devastating.

One interesting thing about the Keselowski deal is that Miller Brewing was not mentioned. So that part is still uncertain, I guess. Not many drivers and teams could nail down a multi-year extension while a key sponsor is still under negotiation. Perhaps that indicates the leverage that Kez has (and Penske's resources).

If you believe that then You don't know much about Roger Penske.
I get what your saying and yea thats a great relationship to have but listen. In an interview guys talk about loyalty and past success but this is racing and you make it by being great week after week. Not because of something you did 5 years ago.

That was 5 years ago. This is a "what have you done for me lately" atmosphere.
that is what you said, I pointed out how well he was doing this year, if you have a problem with that "lately" that is your problem. most cup teams would like that record about now, and the paycheck for second at Indy

I should have probably used the word .. travesty.
He got away from Gibbs but:

Who honestly thought Kes or Wolfe were going anywhere?
I wondered for awhile, Hendrick had two potentially open seats, and although Kez was stating his loyalty to Penske, if he was getting a crappy deal, he could have shopped Hendrick. Can't say for sure but I'm guessing the Ford people were taking forever, huge corporations run by committees can take forever to do anything.

That would be a solid ride for sure. I get the idea that they don't have the resources to pay Matt what he'd want, but he would probably take a cut for a multi-year deal.
I don't think either Barney or Matt have much of a say in the matter. A company that is lending support as we say, can give or take away. Wake up one day and realize your not shot calling anymore.

Really not surprised Kez is staying at Penske, they are a good fit.

BKez is signed "well into the future" which is probably code for as long as sponsorship generating a specific amount of dollars is met. IDK how many races Anheuser-Busch InBev sponsors the 2 car but either they have a bunch of new beer they are advertising or he has 3-4 other sponsors.

Has it been confirmed that Barney is going to be keeping the 77 next, last I heard it was up in the air.
Whether the 77 team runs next year is very much up in the air. Barney Visser has made that clear. Allenbaba told us that Visser and Toyota have no compelling strategic desire to operate the 77 team with Matt Kenseth, a driver in the twilight of his career. And Allenbaba has proven many times to have great insight into things involving Visser and Toyota, as well as numerous others in Nascar. So I believe him when he says that. It does surprise me, however, for one reason... I think Toyota will need a Cup car for Christopher Bell soon, perhaps by 2019. It seems inefficient and costly to start up the 77 this year, then shut it down for next year, and then start up again after one more year. That scenario just doesn't seem logical to me, FWIW.

Yep, that is what I remember too, the plans for the 77 beyond 17 is up in the air

If you want a dark cloud to toss into any news item, one can always be conjured up if you're imaginative enough. Most driver contract announcements don't state precise terms of the deal, and I'm sure there are various reasons for that. "Multi-year agreement" and "well into the future" are pretty standard press release terminology. But Anheuser-Busch InBev has nothing to do with Team Penske, Miller Brewing, or parent company Molson-Coors.

I am sure you are right about the brewery ownership biz as I have not kept up with it as I should. Either way we can't quantify what "well into the future" means and that is not good or bad but just a fact. A multi-year agreement could mean 2 years but whatever the term is it would need to line up with sponsor commitments because you wouldn't sign a driver for a term longer than sponsorship. Did sponsors for the 2 car sign lucrative 5 year deals? Anything is possible but more likely a sponsor is signing for 2 years max due to the changing marketplace. We will probably see lots of 1 and 2 years deals until things shake out as it makes no sense to affiliate with anything Nascar related at this time.

Does anyone see Christopher Bell going into the 77?

I think it would be a very steep learning curve and may take some time, but in the long run, I think he'd do ok.

Blaney to the discount tire penske #12

Mark it
They like that relationship with Wood Brothers and I think Blaney likes the 21 It's possible they move Blaney to 12 and Bubba to 21 or vice versa. Penske wanted a second xfinity team last year full time and couldn't get a deal done I think they bring up Austin Cindric to Xfinity and Dalton Sargeant to BKR

I think he is ready same with William Byron I think these guys are so good and talented they would be able to adapt well within a year in cup and compete for wins within a couple. Personally I think they are both better than Suarez and look how good he has done.

I think Briscoe moves up he is extremely talented and more ready than Cindric. I think sergeant has done nothing to deserve a BKR truck.

He has back to back wins three overall on the year and second in points overall. Sargeant is super talented. I do agree on Briscoe being more ready for X than Cindric, but Cindric has the connections lol
