SILLY SEASON 2018

If Matt Kenseth at age 46 is racing at all next year, he will be doing so on borrowed time. As Ryan McGee wrote about Tony Stewart before he announced his retirement... "Father Time is coming and he's bringing the chrome horn. And Father Time is undefeated."

Greg Biffle fans lamented that he didn't get to go out "on his own terms." My opinion is, if drivers or other athletes wish to go out on their own terms, they need to be sure those terms are reasonable versus the biological clock. Just my $0.02.

Aaaaand Almirola is out at RPM, as expected. Why SHR would think he's an upgrade over even Danica is beyond me, but hey this "sport" is all about $$$ not merit these days.

Well things have hit fast and furious today. Since Aric is getting the 10, I think this will be the Matt Kenseth Retirement Tour except I think hes going to pull a Tim Duncan and you wont know hes retiring until the day of. Interested to see where Kasey Kahne is going to end up now.

Almirola is an upgrade over Danica. They need consistent drivers as Harvick is likely to retire in a a few years.

If he could get some sponsers to help keep the 77 running, it won't be his last season. Kahne will end up at LFR most likely in a 2nd car.

Let's see... one guy has won in all 3 series driving for 2nd tier and mid pack teams, while the other has never won in a NASCAR sanctioned series and their claim to fame is winning a restrictor plate pole. I'll let ya figure that one out

Maybe the better question is, why would Smithfield tie themselves to a mediocre talent like Aric Almirola?

Maybe Matt doesn't want to race for what would be chump change to him? It sounds like all the older drivers are getting hit hard in the pocketbook and the new drivers are getting a fraction of what was normal a few years back. Who knows for sure?

that's your opinion. He has been doing a really good job with mediocre cars. I'm pretty sure the first couple of three races he runs in SHR equipment next year a different song will be sung.

I hope so...i hope he's a top 10 competitor with winning not out of the question if he's at shr

SHR has a new sponsor and a new (mystery) driver.

Danica is out because her car has a new sponsor and new driver.

Aric Almirola is out at RPM, reportedly has a great relationship with Smithfield. Easy to assume he is the mystery man in the 10... that could *possibly* be wrong, but I think not... he will be in the 10. Good, I like it.

Bubba Wallace is in the 43, per Nate Ryan on NBC telecast. Richard Petty's statement was pretty blunt about Smithfield and he having a handshake deal. But will there be enough money to even run the 43? Nate Ryan seems to think there will be, but he's vague. I hope it works out.

Well SF has been has been lets say upset with the lack of improvement for a couple of years. They also wanted RPM out of Ford.

Apparently they don't have a problem with the Ford part of it they just have a problem with the lack of results at Petty and maybe if anything the spot on the totem pole at Ford

Wow, things going downhill in a hurry...

Bob Pockrass:
"Smithfield Foods CEO Kenneth M. Sullivan disputed the Richard Petty Motorsports claim they had a handshake agreement. Sullivan: "RPM's claims of a ‘handshake deal' to extend our sponsorship are unequivocally and patently false. Smithfield's numerous discussions with RPM over the past several months focused exclusively around one issue: RPM's inability to deliver on the track and the organization's repeated failure to present a plan to address its lack of competiveness."

Wow , this is has been one hell of a silly season so far.

So apparently Furniture Row has an announcement about the 77 car tomorrow..... per Twitter

Nothing like a brutally honest statement

Aric will pretty good IMHO.

A heck of an upgrade over Danica, it needs to be said at this point. SHR's stable is going to be more competitive now, that's for sure if,he gets the nod.
