SILLY SEASON 2018

Got to be kidding, Kahne has around the same stats as Almirola and the cars don't compare, hasn't a sponsor, and was bought out his last year just to get him gone.
Not even close to the same stats

Almirola with only 19 starts this year has 2 top 5's, 3 top10's and an average finish of 19.6
Kahne 26 starts, 1 win 3 top 5's and 4 top 10's average finish of 20 Take the lucky Indy win away and what do you have?, an under performing, over paid driver in a top tier team compared to a driver with an obviously inferior car with a one car team. It's a joke.

It would be interesting to see Almirola in a top ride but doubt he does much. As long as it's not Cole Custer though.

I have a hard time believing SHR would put Almirola in a 4th car unless Kurt is leaving too.. They have Custer up and coming and Gene is obviously going to clear the way when he's ready. It would make more sense if Matt got the ride for 1-2 years and then Cole takes over. Then again it's silly season 2018 so anything can happen.

I'm just saying I said Kasey to SHR after Tony said great things about him after Indy

Smithfield was attacked viciously on social media today, not pretty at all. I sent a message to Smithfield similar to Kasey's, thanking them for supporting RPM and continuing to support Nascar teams. So do I also get a seat at SHR? :p

hope the seat at SHR goes to an up and comer honestly. I'd rather give cole Custer some time to learn the cup series and see what he can do.

Cole is nowhere near ready. A fairly impressive rookie campaign in the trucks but wasn't great last year and hasn't been all that great this year. Not at all saying he's a dud just needs more time.

That's fair. I just like the idea of a young gun getting the chance sooner than later. I guess if it has to take a season or two then the Matt kenseth option sounds best. Just lay the groundwork for cole to get his time.

It would be hilarious if Matt was playing word games with the folks on social media ... Nope, I'm not the replacement for Danica Patrick and the #10 ... I'm actually going to be piloting an SHR car with a different #. Actually my hope is that Matt winds up staying with Toyota in the #77, but if pressed to give a guess on his future I'd say .. retirement.

..Because Matt Kenseth is the type of guy who will just spoil the news to Bob Pockross. With the way things have gone so far, I wouldn't rule anyone out until a name is officially announced.

Sounds like the #77 is getting pretty close to shutting things down .. they can't find sponsorship.

http://kickinthetires.net/index.php...osure-inevitable-without-last-minute-sponsor/

This makes zero sense to me. They ran the 78 car every year with nothing but Furniture Row sponsorship. No other primary sponsorship, no associate sponsorship whatsoever. Why is sponsorship suddenly an issue? Especially since the 78 now has primary sponsorship outside of Furniture Row? And you're telling me Kenseth or Kahne wouldn't bring in a few races of sponsorship? Toyota won't step up with a few dollars of sponsorship if they need to?

They want to keep the crew around, might as well keep the car on the track.

I will take Mr. Kenseth at his word.

I would guess that now that FRR is an elite team, they're looking for big spenders to help maintain that form. If Allenbaba says Danica brought more than anyone else to the team and that was still less than half of the budget they were looking for that should say a lot. And 5-Hour may not be there next year, or they may be interested in moving over to the #78.

Toyota wants Kenseth in the 77...so does DeWalt, but do not see how they can get out of the Gibbs agreement. 5 Hr has to stay with the 77 per NASCAR.

Anyone think Barney might be trying to pressure Toyota to come up with some dough to help keep the #77 open? It seems like figuring a way to keep things open is in everyone's best interest. Toyota speaks highly of Matt Kenseth, but they made it clear that they were not comfortable being a primary sponsor. They have sponsored Matt a few times this year since he's light on sponsors.

From Rubbins Racing, ElvisOnFire: "Worst kept secret in the garage area lol. The only reason Smithfield held out from signing this late was they were hoping Petty would come up with a solution (IE a step up from Aric and a guarantee they'd fix their performance), but they felt Bubba was not the answer. Aric has proven he can be a decent driver, and Haas is still considered a top team despite being behind the Toyotas at the moment. Funny part is they have Childress freaking out too because they had a lot of eggs already in the basket thinking it was a done deal lol."

I find it odd that JGR would swap the pit crews of the 18 and 19 at the beginning of the "playoffs".If it doesn't work Kyle will give some interesting interviews after races.

Nope...all of these conversations were over by April. Everyone had a clear understanding of what it would take to keep the 77 on the track. And there's a giant gap between what's needed to fund the car and what could potentially be on the table. Having said that...Toyota might pick up the difference if it's in the 6 figure range. But right now the gap is in the 8 figure range, and the clock is pretty much expired.

I'm still laughing at the couple of three yea who's that were saying SHR losing Danica would mean Gene Haas would only be able to afford three cars next year.

So as of now, it sounds like when the music stops, there will not be a open chair for Kahne to sit in

I remember when Richard petty said that charters would be nascars saving grace.....
