SILLY SEASON 2018

Reading that we should expect an announcement from Dodge either at Daytona in February or at Michigan around Fathers Day next year for a 2019 return to Cup and Xfinity, 2020 for Trucks. Still looking like RCR and RPM.

Edit to clarify: Seems to be announcing the return at Daytona, showing the car off at Michigan.
Where did you read this?

Some might say like how SHR stole Smithfield from Petty.
I don't know about that. Aric says Petty told him RPM wanted to move in a different direction. The Smithfield EVP said they wanted to win with Aric and give him the equipment to do so. Of course, Aric says SHR and Smithfield could've chosen a different driver but there seems to be more evidence pointing towards Smithfield being tied to Aric, and RPM effectively gave him the boot.

Post on a Chrysler board by a member that works at FCA and has many connections inside the company. Basically confirms what I and another member here have been able to piece together based on rumors we've heard and info from our sources over the past couple of years.

Good to hear

Credit to RPM wanting to take a leap to try something different.

Nothing wrong with that IMHO.

My guess would be that RPM wanted to get rid of Aric and keep Smithfield, so maybe SHR DID steal them. What seems more likely is that when RPM told Aric to hit the road, he started shopping Smithfield and himself as a package deal. What we DO know is The King was pretty pissed off AND Smithfield had to make concessions to them. I don't see any way in hell RPM tells Smithfield to take a hike.

@Allenbaba any idea who the sponsors for Blaney and Jones will be outside of Menards and Dewalt? Do they have someone signed?

Inadvertently, not purposefully. I don't know the origins of the Smithfield/RPM/Aric dealings but perhaps over time Smithfield gravitated more towards Aric personally, RPM didn't realize it, and when he was cut Smithfield wanted to stick with him as well.

I'd be really interested in hearing about possible sponsors for the 20 next year.

My guess would be something like: DeWalt, GameStop, SiriusXM and Circle K.... maybe Reser's makes to jump from Xfinity?

I should check with my connection that works for FCA and see what he has to say.

Aric Almirola on move to SHR: “I want the pressure”
“I want the pressure, right? There are two types of athletes in the world,” Almirola said. “There’s the athletes that just want to be a part of the show and there’s athletes who want to make the show.
“I feel like I’m part of the latter category, I want the pressure, I want the ball in my hands when it comes down to the game-winning shot. I don’t want to have an excuse that my equipment is not what where it needs to be. This is that opportunity.”
“I’ve worked my whole career to have an opportunity like this to be a part of a championship organization,” said Almirola. “I know most drivers are looking forward to the end of the season to take a break, but I can’t wait to get to Daytona International Speedway.”

Surprisingly weak hire by SHR. Wish they could've gotten Bubba instead. Although, Almirola will be a beast at the plate races...

He favors a young Ned Jarrett to me

I'll go out on a limb and say that I think Bubba will do better in the 43 than Aric did, and Aric will do better than Danica did AND better than he did in the 43. The million dollar question would be what Bubba could do with the 10, but would SHR have been willing to accept the level of sponsorship that RPM is getting for Bubba? My guess is no, so the whole question likely becomes moot. Here's to hoping that BOTH will produce good results.

Both Smithfield executive vice president John Pauley and Almirola said there were no contractual issues that kept them from leaving RPM to join SHR together. Pauley said his company is performance-driven and wanted to keep the continuity with Almirola.

Team co-owner Stewart insisted that he targeted hiring Almirola, whom he has known for 13 years since Almirola joined Joe Gibbs Racing as part of its diversity program. Almirola used to test cars for Stewart, and Stewart said ever since Almirola "won" the 2007 Xfinity Series race at Milwaukee -- a late-arriving Denny Hamlin replaced Almirola during the race and took the checkered flag -- that he was convinced in Almirola's ability.

"We had worked on this long before Kenseth, but even once Matt came available, for this car, we felt this was the perfect fit," Stewart said. "I was real excited from day one to try to get Aric in this car.

As much as I want to believe that, after the whoppers Tony told yesterday, call me skeptical.

With the current sponsorship situation in the garage, it’s saddle up boys, poaching season is here.

I fully expect moves that seem “shady”. In the end just remember it’s not personal, it’s only business.

I would too but some people either bubba fans or rpm fans seem to think Almirola is the problem with the 43.
Word I got that Aric and Drew just could not communicate. Outside looking in Owens never should have been let go. Look at Aric's stats he has two places where he goes fast consistently the superspeedways. It was just time for this split.

4th Car at SHR Patrick
0 wins 0 top 5's 1 top 10 in 2017

3rd Car at SHR Bowyer
0 wins 6 top 5s 13 top 10s 2017

43
0 wins 3 top 5s(4) 6 top 10s 8 less starts for Aric in 2017

So marginal edge to Bowyer, edge goes to the 43 over Patrick

No word on Kurt. *sigh*

Just stopped in to say hey to all. This is a hopping thread for sure.

Hey to @Allenbaba too.

My guess is the only holdup in Kurt's deal is waiting to see how much sponsorship they will have to determine how much Kurt gets paid.

I kinda like that Brad won’t have one main scheme and that DT car looks good, plus miller is still a part of it. With DT moving to cup I wonder if they get another associate sponsor in XNS Verizon? Snap-On? SKF? a new sponsor there means they could put a young kid in that ride (Briscoe)

What's up Lisa. Don't sweat it, I'd bet one of my kidneys that Kurt will be back in the 41. I think Monster will cut their support in half, so they'd be in for 9 or so races. B)

OMG... Monster Energy trims back, Kurt has to take a salary haircut... I'm not sure he can still afford Ashley Van Metre. This could be an opportunity for @lisa .... :katts:
