SILLY SEASON 2019

I agree with SOI about all star cars and several other things said in his post. One of them was about Cup being reserved for the best and unfortunately that is not always true.

IMO it would be great to see the starting grid at about 30 cars due to all the field filler we see with 40 car fields.

Bayne did not have a great stint at RFR, but I wouldn't say he's a complete joke of a driver compared to others. We will see, but I've been on the Kenseth bandwagon for a few years, and have a hard time believing that the 6 car just doesn't plain stink.

The Xfinity Series could still use an Elliott Sadler type of driver in the playoffs and McMurray would be a good driver for that. Or they could just make the 9 into an All-Star car with Bowman, Byron, Chase running 7 races, along with Josh Berry and other guys splitting the rest of the races.
Star car is a possibility, sounds like they don't have anything lined up for next year so far

Yeah, who cares about all the little guys like Carl Long trying to do what they can in this sport.

They have different tiers of racing for the lesser lights so they can still race. NASCAR should be reserved for the best of the best, IMO, and rolling chicanes add no value.
Didn't furniture row begin as a start and park?....

I don’t recall but it is possible. If race fans think it is a good idea to have non competitive cars on track that is fine as it has always been that way. My opinion is that getting rid of the worst of the worst would not hurt things.

Kurt Busch move boggles the mind. Its clearly a money thing because he is leaving a thoroughbred for a Trotter.

If what has been reported is true many drivers salaries have been severely reduced. Your point about Kurt going for the money makes sense as he only has so many big paydays left so he needs to get while the getting is good.

I don't think Kurt has made a ton of money over his career. He left RFR to go to Penske, which I'm sure was about money, but only lasted a year (or 2 there?) So I cant imagine he made a ton. Then he went to the 51 and 78 because basically no one wanted him, so I cant imagine those salaries were too high. I cant imagine gene is paying him too much now considering how much of the sponsorship hes carrying and he doesn't seem all too impressed with Kurt lately.

Really it only seems like chip is only guy with much interest in Kurt

I don't think it is money. I think Haas is done with him, gave him a year contract, has said I brought Kurt on to win a championship, if he wins I want him to stay when he was asked about Kurt's looking at Ganassi. Tony has said the 41 car is all Gene's deal so there is that. Looking at Kurt's record since he has been with Haas it hasn't been that impressive. Boyer has said the heat is on with his standing at Haas and he has a short term contract also I think it is up at the end of this year or maybe next. And all of them are in the top 8. So far anyway FWIW. I think Kurt needs to catch a fire if he wants to stay at SHR.

36 at the most.

I care that they can drop down to Xfinity where their limited resources might allow them to be competitive, esp. if the limits on Cuppers in X are increased.
Damn, I didn't realize that there was that much going on. That article certainly puts the silly season in the proper perspective.
There isn't as much as it seems. When article takes an A-Z approach, it's required to come up with 26 talking points.

You haven't seen his houses then.

Lisa is right. Lots of money before the marriage.

I'd prefer that Kurt win out so he at least has a shot at staying on with Stewart Haas. Dont see that happening though he's only good for about 1 win a year anymore it seems. Chip Ganassi Racing is a step down.

I think cup drivers should be allowed to run in the Xfinity and truck series as much as they want to. If lesser talents there can't rise to the occasion then so be it. Cup guys aren't racing Xfinity and trucks for the money. It's all about the racing. I think all the whining about cup drivers running in the lower levels is way overrated and Nascar's reaction to it limiting them is an overreach. Just my O.

Until recently I was against cup drivers racing in the lower series. However I don’t think it matters anymore.

Don't think that's happening. Kurt continuing to advance is the only thing holding up the announcement he's going to the #1 and Suarez is replacing him in the #41.

I used to think running an X car with a rotating Cup roster was necessary to fund another full-time X car for driver development. Then I notice Jr. doesn't seem to have any problem funding 3 to 4 X cars annually without needing a full-time All-Star car.

Maybe Chip is impressed with his ability to bring teams up a step.

Because he only hires fully funded drivers, even if they're mediocre. Just look at Michael Annett's 2018 stats...

There are a number of teams who run full time drivers in Xfinity, way more than the mega teams star cars they put together with cup teams to scarf up the prize money

@Charlie Spencer - I can't seem to find the quote button anyway that's a good point. I became a fan of his when I saw how well he ran in the 78 car during the 2013 season. He got into the chase and was consistently finishing well although he didn't win that year. And that was when Furniture Row was practically on their own in a Chevy. He helped bring that team to a higher level and Truex Jr pushed it up over the top. He's a wheel man. Still surprised no-one picked the Bristol night race in another thread as one of the best finishes. He didn't really have the best car that night but he didn't make any mistakes at the end.

With regards to Suarez possibly getting into the 41 car I think that would be great for his development into a contender and winner. Stewart Haas takes the team thing to a whole nother level. Tony Gibson has done an awesome job making sure all 4 teams are fielding competitive cars. They are where JGR was when Kenseth and Edward's were still there. JGR just hasn't seemed like the drivers were all on the same page since those two left. Dunno what has happened with Hamlin he hasn't been competitive until recently. Jones has done well, got that first win, but seems to wreck a lot. I can't recall those guys working as a team at the plate races like they did when Kenseth and Edward's were there. Wonder if Truex Jr's team will still have the same magic at JGR or will they lose it.

@10-4 For quotes, you have two options. There's a 'Reply' button in the bottom right corner of each post (along with a 'Like' button). Or you can select a block of text; that will also offer a 'Reply' option.

LOL, Carl wants to go racing again (at least part time) at some point. Should we add him to the Silly Season mix? :D

He could be the answer for a Xfinity team needing some Cup star power without the limit on races run.

I think there is animosity between Kurt and Tony. Kurt would have been gone last year if he had a ride he could stomach. The #1 car could be that ride. We know Kurt likes a challenge and getting Larson to the top could be the challenge. I think he has 2 years to get it done then retire.
In the meantime he can still flip Jack the bird.
