SILLY SEASON 2019

Spencer Gallagher done driving

Well, I wish him the best. Sucks to see him go out like that, but I think him taking a role behind the scenes could be great for GMS.

Just like Ben Kennedy taking a role in the NASCAR front office, hopefully they will stay involved in their roles years down the line. This could be a great move for the future of GMS.

Friesen or Haley maybe to the 23?

Hm.... Spencer was rough at first on track but really started to make strides. I wonder what prompted him to make that choice.
I'd be willing to bet smokin pot has a bigger role than he said. I can stand the kid but he was getting better.

Spencer Gallagher done driving

Wow, I wasn't expecting that.
Gallagher really improved this year, and I actually thought he could become a Paul Menard-level Cup driver, maybe even a little better than Menard.
Maybe his goal was to win a NASCAR race and run a Cup race, and he achieved both in 2018.

I'm surprised. I had always thought the main force behind the existence of GMS was to further the driving career of Spencer Gallagher, although obviously the team built a broader foundation than just fielding cars for Spencer. I wonder how this announcement will affect the Cup series aspirations of GMS. They have been quite active on that front... bidding for BK Racing assets, negotiating with Barney Visser. Seems like they just haven't found the right deal yet, but still looking. I wonder if that continues??

Hmm this could make it interesting next year if this happens

DC solar has been on the 42 for awhile. If they want Chastain, and I think they do, he is going to get some races next year I would bet. The CEO of D.C. Solar was all over his win. It's looking pretty good for Chastain at this point. IDK about Nemo, really don't care. If they split the 42 great, if not Nemo has a good truck to race and he is fun to watch there.

Nemo will be fine and he will move up eventually. He's still really young as well, so he will have the chance to grow over the next couple of years. He's got all the ability to be special and I think developing in the Xfinity series is the right thing to do.

Chastain has been around for a while and honestly has been really good from the jump. He was beating Cassill regularly when he started in Xfinity. Chastain resigned with Premium on the Cup side though, I wonder if Chip has considered him for the next level come 2020?

Sorry if this is stupid question but has the 41 car for 2019 been figured out? Kurt leaving and if so where? Who to the 41? Thanks for any updates.

I don't think that NEMCO truck is really as good as GMS, Thor Sport or KBM.
I always thought John Hunter was a little faster than his truck, he could have 5 wins in Trucks this year, but he got caught up in a few wrecks and suffered a few mechanical failures. I doubt NEMCO could field a possible race-winning Xfinity car.
They are definately operating on a low budget, they were close to shutting down last year if I remember correctly.
I don't think his Xfinity results are that bad, but Chastain has dominated two of the three races he has run with CGR.
That makes basically every other driver look bad.

I think JHN is faster than his truck also. Fun to watch, but part of his problems he needs to learn. I think Chastain is a master at getting all he can out of a car.

This posted over on Reddit, but it was said that no announcement will be made on the plans for the 41 car till after Kurt has been eliminated from the final 10 races, or the season is over, which ever comes first.

Not surprising I mean he does have a legit shot at winning it all!!! How weird would it be for him to leave after that :/

NASCAR would benefit from Kurt winning it all. He is one of the last old school drivers with a past Championship. The man can wheel a car. If you look closely at the parallels between Kurt and Kyle, you can clearly see that both of them are very talented drivers with adjustment problems, ie entitlement issues that put them in a spotlight for calling out their teams, other drivers, and their fans when things don’t go their way. High performing individuals in sports and in business often find themselves questioning their support team, and it usually ends up being the fault of the support team. Kurt has great SHR equipment, a team that is on point lately, and the green light from Gene Haas to show what he has as a driver. I would be surprised if he doesn’t make it to Homestead in the mix, and I would be even more surprised if he doesn’t stay with SHR for another 2 years until he retires.

Good luck with that. His problem is he isn't winning and that as Gene Haas has said is a problem. But Haas said if he does win he has a job. Kurt has a one year contract, a fluky half sponsor, and Haas is footing the rest of the bill and has been for a while. Like any sponsor he wants to see wins..and he owns the contract also.

Well, we will see if Haas can back that up by managing Kurt’s team to keep good cars and personnel under him for the next few weeks. I still don’t know why Kurt is constantly under fire by posters on this forum. It’s clear the man can drive a race car. He’s had issues with being a hothead and a loudmouth, but he’s very competitive. Passion for winning is 80% of his job, and he has consistently shown that over the course of his career.

Nemechek redeemed himself, if CGR can't have 2 Xfinity cars, then GMS should give him some consideration for the 23 or whatever car.

Going back to the subject of Kurt. It is my belief that Tony didn't want Kurt.
Tony and his team run SHR and I have my doubts they put any extra effort into the #41 car.
I believe the #41 is the forth car at SHR. I also think Kurt could do better at CGR in the #1 car
as the number one driver. Kurt has the ability to take that team one notch higher.

I'd really like to see this SHR group stay together for a couple of years. Getting Suarez would cool too, but SHR have been the best team overall this season by a solid margin with probably one of the best seasons for a four-car team since that became a big thing.

I don't see Kurt being better off at CGR simply because I can't see the equipment being on par.
