Silly Season 2024

Where does SVG go? Full time in a 3rd trackhouse car?
Kaulig?
I think either Trackhouse abandons Project 91 as a rotating cast of international drivers and turns it into a full-time operation (and then in a couple years revists a part-time fourth car to continue what they're doing now, because I don't see Marks ending that for good), or 23XI nabs him.

23XI is obviously in the middle of building their new facility, and as part of investing into their future success, getting SVG would be a massive signing for them. With SVG and Reddick in the same stable, 23XI would be a powerhouse on roadcourses, and the popularity of Shane would elevate their marketing too.

if I'm Penske, I'm pressuring the Wood Brothers to put him in the #21. I think he'd be an asset for that team and he's better than Harrison Burton at this point.
I was thinking about that too, I would love to see him in the 21. That car is too historic to be forgotten about every week. Seeing that car get an exciting international driver of this caliber would be great to see.

There are better choices for 23XI. The dude won a road course event. One. IF he comes, how long would he stay? WE have the Driver Development program. He isn't a part of it. No thanks.

I saw someone on Reddit predict 3+ wins next year. People are going to need to calm their expectations for SVG. Not every race is a wet street course. He will be competitive on road courses but we have no idea how he’ll take to oval racing.
I laughed. If the Reddit Brigade/Hype Train think these fellas that SVG beat arnt a prideful bunch and are chomping at the bit to get him back on a road course or street circuit to have a rematch that goes their way this time, they're incredibly naive and mistaken. And thats not even to say he's going to get his lunch handed to him on ovals. I'm not knocking SVG, I think hes a talent from the 1 race I've seen him in and won, it was great. But Ambrose, Montoya, and others I am forgetting that have had great success in other forms of motorsports, have found the NASCAR discipline difficult....the stats show that. I'd love to see him in NASCAR and be successful, that'd be a great story in itself, but for those thinking he's going to get 3 plus wins if he does this full time in his first year, prepare for disappointment.

Seems like a lot of smoke and no fire. Zero rumors about this move before the win and now tons. Over what was really a fluke win (I say fluke not because he lacks talents, just a bizarre set of circumstances that made it pretty easy for him to go out and dominate in a semi-****box car).

NASCAR, V8 Supercars, Chicago, and SVG are all smart. They know this can be a huge PR win for all of them. They got people talking... now they want to keep people talking. This is how.

I don't see him moving to NASCAR full-time. I see more one-offs, perhaps even running all the RC races (if that aligns with the Supercars schedule... idk).

i think he will do every good. mostly because he has been winning races for years in cars that are pretty close to the cup car.i think they said 60 wins,it will be fun to watch if he is in a good car.

Do supercars run at any ovals?
They don't.

Supercars introduced a new generation of cars this year which SVG doesn't like at all. Even before Chicago it was pretty clear he was looking to get out of Supercars.
I don't think SVG would be a championship contender in his first Cup season but he's not only been successful in Supercars and GT3 but also started rallying last year and immediately found success. He's a driver who can adapt, I think he could get used to ovals.

Reddit is out of their minds. That's probably what they predicted Bubba when he went to 23XI.

Bubba is too mainstream for them my man.

Remember when they spent years posting that Matty D was going to be a consistent winner and championship contender with the right team? Or how Corey LaJoie is just a good ride away from being a consistent race winner?

I'm a Matt Dibenedetto believer so you're barking up the wrong tree 😂

Matty D, The original People’s Champ

Not to defend Reddit (haven't ever even been there) but I'm not convinced they are wrong on either one of those positions. If you gave me the choice of either one over the dead weight currently in the 21, I'll side with Reddit every day and twice on race day.

Matt D ran 10 spots better than Harrison does, and even ran better than Cindric has in the 2 car outside of his 500 win.

People forget Montoya won his first two NASCAR road races.

Montoya doesn’t get enough credit for being one of the best drivers to ever strap in.
His initial CART run was just amazing. Then he goes to F1 at the height of Schumacher/Ferrari dominance and carves out a few challenges at that time’s current king. He comes to NASCAR does okay and then goes back to Indy Car, a car and discipline he hadnt been in almost 20 years to win the Indy 500 and almost win the championship. He’s one of my favorite drivers ever, loved watching him race.

Also probably the last true surprise driver announcement. Far as I know, when he was announced as coming to NASCAR, there wasn’t really any reports on it. Just one day a press conference happened and that’s that.

I actually remember the day because I was there. It was at a Chicagoland Speedway Cup race in 06 that word broke Montoya was coming to the US and to NASCAR specifically. As a fan of his I vividly remember being at the track and word spreading quickly, not many knew who he was. I did being a fan and all, I really thought it was going to go better than it did.

Burton and Cindric don’t say things that make sponsors cringe.
No, but Tony Stewart, Kyle Busch, Daniel Suarez and Kyle Larson all have made sponsors cringe, just to name a few, and yet life goes on. If I boycotted every athlete and entertainer that had political or personal views I disagreed with, I wouldn't be able to watch a sport, a TV show, a movie or listen to very much music. When it comes to not being able to just let some things go, one side is just as bad as the other.

If Matt Spaghetti was as good as those guys, he wouldn’t be stuck in the Truck Series.

Life goes on.

Excluding Suarez, the others have demonstrated the talent to get away with it. If I recall, Suarez wore the wrong T-shirt or drank the wrong drink, or something similar; he wasn't running his mouth. (I wonder if Bubba ever wants to have a Whopper or a Triple Baconator?)

I'm not sure what drivers you or I choose to watch has to do with why Burton and Cindric have Cup rides while DiBenedetto doesn't.

Man I am a liberal who listens to country music and watches NASCAR so I totally agree that we don’t need to agree with someone’s politics to enjoy what they do.

But DiBenedetto did a terrible job of reading the room. In a sport where Joe Gibbs and Richard Childress are open and proud conservatives, he still managed to rub people the wrong way. He was also in a contract year and looking for a new ride. He did everything wrong that you could possibly do.

Another competitive car, but it sounds like he won’t get to test beforehand like Shane did. Will be a bit tougher without that and heading into familiar territory for the Cuppers.

Indy will be interesting with both he and Kobayashi in attendance.

MTJ making noise about a walk off if he wins it all with Claire B. Lang.....Calling it now, he will win it, and he will walk off.

As a conservative, I 100% agree with you. You’ve got to know when to shut your damn mouth and when to express yourself. Matty D never shut his damn mouth and is paying the consequences, although I’m sure it’s nice to have 13+ more weekends off.

For the purpose of clarity, Mr. Larson said something that got him fired. That's not just a cringe.

This. Watched JPM in his early days at Portland. The guy was magical.
