Storage building

Look at roll roofing, I put it on a dilapidated shoulda torn it down shed 20 some years ago and it still doesn't leak!
As for lumber prices, I found my cigar box full of receipts from when I put a 768 sf addition on my house in '84, 2 X4 X 8,, 44¢ DOUG FIR! Lowes here sells ''white wood''. WTF is white wood? Easy to build with, it's so soft you don't need a hammer simply push 16d's in with your thumb.

I second that. I used roll roofing on a dog house and some bird house roofs and a small out building and I have had good service with it. It's NOT black tar paper. Roll roofing is thick, has the gravel texture and comes in colors.

I really appreciate the participation in my rambling thread. Fully aware of my penchant for asking a question them immediately shooting down most of the answers. Bad habit. Wasn't aware roll roofing was still a thing. Great suggestion. A tree fell this winter right behind the building with a couple limbs contacting the roof. Need to see why the roof is sagging in the center before I attempt any repair. Think I'll get it set in place and cover it with a tarp to protect the floor. Appears roof is just seeping thru in two spots. Might get away with Flex-Seal for a temp repair/Band-Aid.

Really need to get off my butt and clean out/tear-down the phone booth sized shed I have now. Must have been built right on the ground. Floor is long gone. At least half-dozen bird nests inside. Need to knock it apart. I'm the worst procrastinator ever. Shed mover says I'm on his schedule for this week. Need to make up my mind whether to have it set-up where it belongs or not. Tempted to get couple long 2x6's to use to roll it back on pipes and level it myself after doing roof. But think I probably mentioned this before.

Still waiting for shed guy. Still haven't cleaned out old one. Decided to just setup new shed about 6' in front of old one, move the junk straight into new shed and/or truck for trip to dump. Then maybe add onto rear of shed at some point.

Found a guy 1/2 mile away selling returns from Lowes/Home Depot. Bought a chainsaw and circular saw almost cheaper than just the circular saw at retail. Going to go trim around the "new" building tomorrow. Probably start hunting another guy to move it. Don't think the guy I contacted is really interested. But I did manage to stay out of the house most of the day stumbling thru all the local pawn shops. No bargains to be found.

Needs power washing and some repair of lower siding. This is what I want to do for roof. 12 foot gambrel would be perfect.

Found this saw locally used on Craigslist. Appears barely used in pictures. Will see this evening. Cheapo but probably adequate for my needs. About 1/3 price of a new one. Good enough starter saw.

It's single bevel but I won't be doing much trim. Not building cabinets. Mostly framing. 2x6 and smaller. $130.

Might build a taller zero clearance fence that can be easily moved/slid left for left side. Guy on TouTube completely removed the fence and built one out of wood. I'll do some poking around to see what my options are. Left side is really short.

After further review...I probably don't need to do anything but check the blade is square to the fence and quit obsessing. Do plan to make a dust retenion bucket to connect to vacuum.

The old girl cleans up pretty decent. Not finished but worked on it. Used some bleach water then some carwash soap I had. Front is done. One side almost done.

Got it fully bathed. Really need to get the wiring done so don't have to use 100' extension cord when doing anything outside. Always afraid of burning up tools. Have a commercial grade cord. There is a box on front porch that isn't connected to power. That would probably be place to start. Connect it so could use 25' cord. Been know to make up a cord from 12/2. Bought entrance cable from Lowes but thinking about returning it. Use 10/3 instead. Entrance cable is STIFF! Needs to go 45/50 feet. Got some 1.5" PVC conduit but entrance cable is direct burial so not technically needed. Trying to avoid having any inspectors involved. The whole renter/landlord/landowner thing can get complicated. Sometimes getting me to make a decision is tough.

Removed rear and RH shelves. All came apart fairly easily. Can reuse the lumber and the shelves as gussets for rafters. Wanted to put electric box in RR where all those ridiculously close together shelves were. Got door handle. Supposed to have most of supplies by Tuesday. Need to count/measure the 2x4 I have and get the rest along with OSB and shingles. Trying to make myself fix the structure before running power. Only maybe 50 feet from front porch where I can cut wood.

Hmmmm? Might make a set of sawhorses out of old lumber? Going to return PVC conduit and get a ground rod and clamps. Some caution tape to put in ground above entrance cable. Maybe keep a shovel out of it and save somebodies life.

Just occurred to me, after raising the top of walls to gain head room (may only be 6 inches) will put stringers across then plywood it to about 6 inches from walls to leave room for truss. Build truss on that surface. Won't have to lift them. Tack a couple verticals outside of front & rear wall to catch them, Then just flip them up and nail to stringers. Add hurricane ties. Main reason I'm dragging my feet is I have almost zero building experience so doing lots of research. Need to use 2x6 so can bird mouth for top plate so maybe need to use rope and pully set-up tp lift them? I'll be doing everything by myself. Actually prefer that.

My concern on the wall height is don't plan to recess lights and they would be head knockers. Suppose if they are up in space between stingers that would be fine. Me thinking...

Was removing pictures from phone and found this one. She was a dirty girl. Really surprised how well it cleaned up.

Working on tearing down the old shed. What a cobbled together mess. Used floor jack and 2x4 to raise the roof. Quarantine has kicked my butt. Work an hour, sit in recliner for an hour. Need to get a cordless driver. Since I have 12 & 18V Milwaukee stuff probably go with them. Has some plywood I can salvage that is screwed on.

Was going to mount saw on an old tool chest but this was in old storage building. Maybe attach locking wheels to bottom and add wings to sides? I hate thowing stuff away that can be repurposed. Calculating how many 2x6 for roof truss. Not sure whether to go 16" o/c or 24? Since pitch will be higher probably not a concern. 24 should be fine with 1/2" OSB sheeting. Since building is 10 foot planning on running truss past end an extra 2 foot. Then when money suits extend building on back another 12 or 200 feet. Hmmmm? Suppose foot overhand front & back would make me look less insane & still make it easier to add to back and make a "porch" later so I don't get my dumb head wet in the rain.

For anyone confused about my excitement about a 10x10 building, here us my porch. Which leaks. Badly. One corner of trailer is sinking. Need to jack it up and replace window framing in living room. So the tools I'm buying will get used.

Going to replace 30 a double pole breaker at service that is feeding washer/dryer with 100 to connect to building. As long as the washer doesn't dead short it'll be fine...cause I doubt the 10/3 running to washer will kick a 100 amp breaker. SMOKE SMOKE SMOKE!🤪

Went to check on how the estimate was coming. Guy just chuckled and ha-ha'd, said "yeah it's right here were I put it...haven't looked any of it up but we'll get it...ummmm...eventually". "It's on top of the pile" which appeared to be the two sheets of paper I gave him. So took another copy to next place and in less than 5 minutes walked out with $915 estimate for roof. Another 1500 for about 2/3 of another 10x12 building. Yep...2/3 of a building. So the MATERIALS to build 10x12 barn roof shed with treated floor $2500! INSANITY! Came home and counted used lumber I reclaimed by tearing apart shelves. Have enough 2x4's to build barn style rafters. Guess it's gonna get done with 2x4's. The original rafters are fine to reuse the 2x4's if I can get it apart without destroying them.

Gonna do the barn roof on shed with 2x4 rafters, two 2x6 loft and fix front porch roof. That'll about break me but at least have dry place to put my stuff. May get landlord to pay for porch materials which are only around $200. Knocks it off the rent. In nearly 8 years I've lived here doubt she's spent $500 maintaining this trailer. Pretty cheap. I don't tear stuff up.
