The Announcers Thread

People on Sirius XM complaining about how they hated the TV crew wearing jeans and t-shirts, I kid you not. WGAS? Really?
What gets me -- the guys in the booth really weren't on TV all that much. The pre-race, yes. But, during the race, seemed a lot less than usual.

Which, I think, made the commentary a lot looser because didn't have to turn around and face the cameras. They could concentrate on the race.

I wonder sometimes if the callers are truly representative of NASCAR Nation. I hope not.

No surprise, the majority of callers they allow on-air generally share the opposite opinion of the majority on here or fans in general. They screen calls for sure. It was open for a vote and it won by a large margin if I'm not mistaken, so where were these people?

I didn't care for the jeans and T-shirt look and I would prefer for Rick Allen to be back upstairs. When I tune into a race I want it to feel special or significant. I don't want it to seem like I am listening to a podcast. If I wanted to here me and my buddies talk sh!t I would invite them over. I want the suit and ties because it's adds a feel to me. I also realized how important reads and rejoins are to the flow of a broadcast because they were awful yesterday. That is the stuff where Rick Allen is needed. That and keeping the stepping on each other to a minimum. He sort of directs traffic.

The main thing I noticed about the broadcast was how defensive Rick Allen was about being relegated to pit row. I mean, every single comment he made just reeked of his defensive attitude at being "left out."

I agree with @clarkfn2284 that you need a play-by-play guy. I hope NBC is calling Allen Bestwick at this very moment. Or trying to pry Vince Welsh loose from FOX.

I'm sure Rick is a nice guy but his delivery is forced and doesnt sound genuine.

I had hope for Allen but he relapsed today, back to the over the top unbearable shouting from last year, He needs to go back to pit reporter from last week.

I second this. I wanted to say he was improved since last year and the last 5 laps or so today....awful stuff with the over the top delivery.

I watched a replay of the Bubba wreck on youtube and couldn't believe his screaming play by play before it was apparent the window net wasn't being dropped right away.

In the Pocono race thread there's a video of Grissom's wreck in 1997. There is no real screaming or shouting as it's occurring. Parson's just goes "ohh no!" Then the announcers are basically in remorsed silence before Jenkins finally breaks the pause with a quiet, reserved comment.....

I know a lot of people have pretty strong thoughts about the individuals in the booth, but let's talk about NBC's broadcast as a whole for a second. They are changing the game. I know FOX has the drivers only broadcast which is great, but NBC has really taken it to another level this year with the things they've done and FOX will have to adjust. The different booth combinations, positioning guys in the corners and around the track during practices and now the race, even letting the fans get involved in what they wear in the booth. That seems like a little thing but it really adds to the total package of what they're trying to accomplish. They're attempting to reach the viewer in a lot of new ways. Even their post race show is good. If they can get the right people to pair with JR upstairs, they will really have something.

"Remember guys in the xfinity series they raced a race in the rain, some of the guys have expereience in the rain, xfinity series has raced in the rain"

jeff burton

good gosh

I would pay for a premium feature via the NBC Sports app that allows me to mute the announcers at times or enable / disable each of them individually.

My limit has been exceeded. No volume on TV today because I cannot listen to Mike Bagley. The guy sounds like he is auditioning for a full time gig. You. Ain't. That. And. Never. Will. Be. .....probably staying off of NASCAR Radio because he will spend the next three months breaking down his experience. Dear God.

I hate the hyper ventilation in the booth, the screaming makes DW seem calm and collected. Unbelievable Jeff Burton was so calm when interviewing as a driver, and I don't remember Letarte loosing his shiet all the time either.

And while he isn't in the NBC booth, I hate Dave Moody too. It just needs to be said. Can't some real Godfather mafia representative just best him up real bad.
I hate Disco music especially the BeeGees and Rap too.
I hate the stupid current radio music too the Florida Georgia line bull****.
Hate the Kardashians too.

Back to the racing. I hated Ken Squier too. Petty flipped in 1988, and Squier said something about him needing to retire, and I don't forget.
Hate Micheal Waltip's sweet A too.
Jackie Stewart wuttin worth a damn either.

But I really hate the complaining negative attitudes the most.Yall all have a great race today. Good luck to all the drivers except the Bush's. I hate them too, along with Hamlin.

Pretty embarrassing.

It's like they're on permanent caps locked. Screeching and screaming non stop.

Watched a Moto-Gp this morning .... what a pleasure to listen to a race broadcast where somebody actually knows how to call a race.

When do they breathe ? or do they ? Please make it stop !!!!!! SLIIIIIIIIIIDE JOB !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't have a huge issue with announcers, my issue is with the booger zooming/quick cutting production. Plus if the leader has a 2 second gap over second do you REALLy need to zoom in on that car for the finish? How about covering the rest of the pack? Maybe even split screen the finish.

sorry, but a really liked all the guys around the track,it was like the old radio shows before in was on tv.dale jr does a great job, just a reminder that there are other channels and a off switch on your tv

Muted the last five laps, I didn't need a bunch of screaming to tell me what I was supposed to think. Most racing people know Truex was going to make his move if he had any to make in the last couple of laps. Since listening to the replay of the last couple of laps with the sound on, I am glad I did.

Jeff Burton hyping up the finish was LOL worthy

Rick Allen acting like Jimmie pushing Chase was the single greatest thing ever was cringe inducing

Those guys about half the time aren't seeing what I am seeing..gives me a headache. :idunno: Gone are the days where the viewer was respected, now it is cram some kind of drama down our throats even if it ain't happening.:D
