The Announcers Thread

yep weeding out the miss information and the babbling Burton loves to go on and on about gives me a headache. He doesn't know what another driver on the track is thinking, could be about what is for dinner. Hitting the mute button is ineffective because when he does come up for air, another announcer gets to speak. MRN is unsynced with the TV so it is no help. Why that is so is another WTF.

Steve:"the 22 car HAS got to come to pit road and get that loose wheel taken care of or they could end up with a wrecked car!"
Jeff: "YOU'RE RIGHT STEVE! IF THAT WHEEL FALLS OFF, THERE GONNA WRECK, YOU CAN'T GO 200 MPH WITH A LOOSE WHEEL AND REMEMBER EVERY SINGLE POINT MATTERS. THAT'S WHAT THESE SEGMENTS DO. EVERY POINT MATTERS. SO IF IM THE 22 I GOTTA GET THAT TAKEN CARE OF RIGHT NOW CUZ IF YOU WRECK YOU LOSE THAT CHANCE FOR POINTS. THE SEGMENTS HAS REALLY CHANGED HOW TEAMS THINK BECAUSE NOW EVERY POINT MATTERS

This is pretty good

were the announcers not watching. Haley made the pass and they ddint even see it

Only watched the race for a out 30 minutes but I heard the word "Aggressive" about 20 times

I just kept waiting for Rick Allen to start screaming "AGGRESSIVE GOES AROUND!"

I started getting a headache, so I turned it down to background volume and it was better..sheesh, I didn't need four of them talking explaining the wrecks over and over, they were self explanatory.

Get Jeff Burton out of the booth

Also threw up almost when they started talking "WIN AND IN"

Burton continues to make fatal errors. I can't handle it when he starts telling a story about what a driver is thinking. So is so is thinking right now about blah blah blah. He loses all credibility with me and that is all any of them have in the booth and he talks way more than 25% of the time.

Burton needs to lower his voice a bot and stop giving long winded examples

yeah that stuff is good for after shows or network shows not the race where we are being held hostage. :D

Is it my imagination or did they have Letarte muzzled at Daytona? He was out of the booth and not talking much. If that's what they were doing, they got the wrong guy. It's Burton that they've got to get out of there. And what was Mike Tirico about? He knows from nothing about NASCAR as near as I can tell. They may be adding him to try and bring some calmness to the broadcast but for this race but he just sat there and watched.

NBC is bringing Tirico on as a sort of new Bob Costas. He's supposed to raise the profile and bring gravitas to the event, as though they are signaling that they consider the marquee NASCAR races to be major events for them. They have talked about doing the same for next year's Indy 500, and I would bet Tirico will be back for the Brickyard and Homestead.

IMO it doesn't accomplish much, but it is a network-wide effort to try to tie all of their sports properties together.

I wish NBC would bring Brian Williams over from Msnbc to do pre-race.

Also, has anyone listened to the commentary on MRN? NBC blows them out of the water. Rick Allen is pretty great Imo.

I really missed Espn's broadcast. Allen Bestwick is the best in the business, today.

He would have been right at home at
CBS had Gumbel do Daytona one year. Fox brought in Chris Myers for NASCAR. Al Michaels did the Indianapolis 500.

I hate I missed Daytona now. Mike Tirico is my favorite sportscaster, next to Joe Tessitore.

I agree wholeheartedly. Tirico is a class act. I was just puzzled that he was with the broadcast team but I think it's as Gnomesayin mentioned above, NBC is bringing him in to try and raise the profile and quality of the race broadcasts.

I never heard of the guy before and really think the extra costs were
unnessessary. I don't turn on the TV to watch people sit around a table
to tell me what they think. I don't turn on Nascar Racing to listen to most of the
talkers, I come to watch a race. They have the pre-race show for those that like that. I really like listening to what Jeff says and also Junior so far. For me that is enough commentary,
Lets put the effort into better camera and control booth. They could be showing the top 10 in one segment of the screen and use a window for interesting racing further back in the pack.
They do this some times and I like that.

Burton and Letarte are still way too loud for me and ramble on for way too long. I feel like I'm being shouted at whenever they open up.

Allen, at least so far, sounds better to me this year. He at least hasn't made any meme-worthy calls, so that's a plus.

Rick ALlen: Here comes Kasey Khane for the lead!
Jeff Burton: AND THAT'S WHAT THIS PLAYOFF FORMAT HAS DONE. GUYS LIKE KASEY KAHNE , WHO ARE WAY BACK IN THE POINTS, THEY HAVE A CHANCE TO WIN THIS RACE AND GET THEMSELVES IN THE PLAYOFFS! GOING IN ON POINTS WON'T MATTER FOR GUYS LIKE KASEY KAHNE. IT'S WIN AND IN!! THIS IS THEIR LAST CHANCE TO GET THAT WIN AND QUALIFY THEMSELVES FOR THE PLAYOFFS!
