The Food thread

My guess would be you are getting fresh never frozen fish from there. There is a big difference in the two.
Yep, since you catch'em and they clean'em in front of your eyes I would say that you were right. :D
And yes, they sell cleaned fish also. To a few select restaurants, call in customers etc and don't freeze fish for any reason.

Real tomatoes? The deep red ones and not those that are kinda pinkish?

Ok folks, it's the 4th of July, GOD BLESS AMERICA and our Independence Day! :salute: Be sure and put the USA Flag out today.

Now, Let's see some of that fantastic celebratory food you all are preparing or eating! :punkrocke

Our 4th Supper, that is the same as Dinner for our Northern friends. :D

I sure screwed up some meatballs tonight. Must’ve measured something wrong. They wound up in the trash can outside.
Tomorrow’s breakfast burrito will be especially satisfying.

Asada is marinating for street tacos later. :)
I need a good Mexican food fix, yet to find any place here in New England that remotely compares to the Mexican food I had out west or the homemade stuff my ex girlfriend made. Don't miss her, but sure miss those enchiladas, burritos, and tacos.

I know it won't help you, but I have a little hole-in-wall place 5 minutes from here --- the woman makes all the tortillas for your order right then. Her husband, brother and father do all the cooking, right then. Fresh and home made to the max.

I'm drooling, we used to have a little take out place just down the street from us in Colorado Springs, Monica's, best burritos around and enchiladas to die for.

@TexasRaceLady IMO hole in the wall places are arguably then best. Tortilla Flats is a hole in the wall place in Providence and the best salsa I've had. You know, best for a Yankee. They ask for your tolerance and their salsa is warm, hot and JESUS H. hot.
Stanley's in Central Falls is another hole in the wall. Think of the SNL cheeseburger, cheesebuger, cheeseburger and that's Stanley's, Great food!

Just cooked up a batch of "devils claws" a native plant here in the southwest that my grandaughter and I grew from seeds I found in the desert.

There are edible seeds inside those dried pods, you peel off a coating and there is a tender white seed inside. The pods can lay around for years until an animal smashes them and the seeds grow. You cut the green ones up like Okra and fry em ...tasty as hell

Wow, never seen anything like it.

They are tough to find, they possess the strongest anti inflammatory in nature. Those dry pods in the top picture contain about 50 black seeds that have a protective coating on them. You can peel one thats been laying in the sun for years and the seed is tender, sort of like a sunflower seed. We have 2 plants, they probably have 200 fruits on them right now. I sliced them and fried up a plate full and they were gone in less than a minute. They are made to hook on to the leg of hoofed animals and get carried away

Very interesting, kyle. I would never have thought that those would be edible.

The first guy to ever eat those musta been pretty hungry.

Our desert is one of the most inhospitable places around, but if you know whats up, you can live out there. The best way to get to know the native plants is to grow them and learn from them. I am on the lookout for a wild gourd plant to get some seeds, that will be me and the grandkids experiment next summer.
