The new NASCAR.com coming January 1st

I just want the news/stories. I don't want videos. All the print articles used to be located in one spot.
It's all under the News/Media option. They appear to have one video at the top and the the Articles section is listed directly below that. The Video section is located further down the page.

Thanks, dpk. I'll keep trying. It looks like the site is aimed more toward iPads and smart phones rather than desktop PCs.
TRL, as another desktop user, thanks for the warning. I'll wait until this weekend or next, after they've stepped on the bugs.

As to Twitter, I've never gotten the hang of it. Too much chaff to wheat. Besides, it's blocked at work and Jayski isn't.

Big, clunky and ugly. Zero improvement over the previous version.

100% agree.

It should appeal to the "I want it now, I want it in the palm of my hand and with minimal effort on my part" crowd so if thats what they were shooting for, nice job.

When more and more people are using smartphones and tablets, almost exclusively, to access the internet, it makes sense. Also, Windows 8 is designed almost exclusively for touchscreen devices. NASCAR's keeping up with the times. Not their fault some of you guys live in 2006.

Simpler is better.

I don't dispute any of that but they could perhaps offer a version for those of us who don't text, tweet, Facebitch, Facebawl an/or browse the web while we're driving and have more than 3 seconds of attention to offer.

I did find a couple of positives with the new design which are the absence of those annoying ******* menu pop ups and it should be much easier for the visually impaired. It's got to be a shock to open that homepage on a 50" + flat screen

I haven't bothered with raceview and all that for a while but can one pick any driver and have in-car cameras or is it still a steady diet of all four (7 this year) HMS cars, with a few bones thrown in once in a while?

I think you might be confusing RaceView with Race Buddy or some other option. That RaceView package allows you to select any of the 43 cars that you want as it always has. The only thing is, it's not actual live broadcasting of the race. It is nothing more than a virtual view from the car of choice. A cartoon. Frankly, I don't understand why they can't just give you control of the desired cars roof-cam. The technology exists. Why not make it available to the customer?

ALL THIS. RIGHT HERE.
SOMEBODY MAIL THIS POST TO NASCAR
This would solve the disappearing young male fan problem.

Its not exciting to watch what a computer renders. It is exciting to hear a guy on the scanner while watching the camera inside or outside the car. Give people what they want.

I'm calling up Brian tell it like it is!

For sure. The technology is there trackside if you have a FanVision scanner, why not have it available for use on your PC or wireless device?

I wonder. Is what you've described the reason why they don't want to make it available on our smartphones? Why rent a FanVision scanner if you already have one in your pocket? It's probably all back to the almighty $'s.

Personally I could care less about the visual part of the app while at the track. I'll watch the race in front of me rather than a device in my hand. I would like to have the scanner available to me on my cell phone though. That, I would use.

One advantage of the FanVision scanner is the ability to see the in-car camera or TV screen in the event that something happens while your driver is on the backstretch or out of view. Another feature that I like is the ability to replay in-car audio.

Well, I'll say this. My view coming from someone that has never used a FanVision scanner. I've been using my same scanner equipment that I've had since I've started going to the races so I'm pretty old school when it comes to that. As long as that equipment works properly I can't justify spending the extra money for the FanVision scanner experience. As it is I only use my current setup a few times a year. I guess we are all comfortable with our current setups?

.

That's a sure bet. When Sprint opted out of Fan view, the die was cast. I don't thing nascar inc. ever makes financial decisions while giving proper weight to what's good for the sport and expanding it's fanbase. If they did, we would have been racing in 36 markets long ago.

Yeah, I probably am as it was 2006/2007 when I first and last checked all that out.

Got an e-mail DP, my subscription will run it's duration and then I can make my choices when and if I renew. No prices or details of their new setup yet, just that it will have many new features and options. My fingers are crossed because I like raceview, mainly the ability to somewhat follow the race during commercials.

They've now got on their site that we'll be able to get the pricing on January 15th. I'd think that would mean that we are finally able to log back into and manage our accounts at that point. My subscription has always been on an automatic renewal with them. For a long time I subscribed to their premier package and then lowered it to only the scanner option. If this upgraded service results in way better technology, I'll be back. I would hope that by subscribing to their premier service that would entitle me to the phone app as well but I guess we'll all find out soon enough.
