The new NASCAR.com coming January 1st

Just tried to find some of my favorite sites, no luck. If they took out the ability to look up past race schedules and results, well thats just plain stupid but If they moved it I cant find it.

I noticed they're also working on the Home Tracks page: http://hometracks.nascar.com/

Hopefully they work on getting more coverage of local races. Hopefully cutting Turner out means NASCAR.com will have more Truck Series coverage and that Home Tracks will have more coverage of the All American Series and K&N East tour.

I don't know if this Schedule page is what you're looking for, but it came right up from my old Favorite. I hope it doesn't take them long to get the practice and qualifying links up. Last year they didn't start including them until April or May.

http://www.nascar.com/en_us/sprint-cup-series/schedule.html

I notice everything on this particular page is much bigger this year and requires more vertical scrolling. I assume the larger size is to appeal to the relatively smaller screens on portable devices. So far this page is all I've looked at. As long as they remember to add the practice speeds and include the live Leaderboard, I'll be content.

The best site for past races, results and overall history is Racingreference.com
Racing Reference rocks. It's my first stop for fantasy data.

The new NASCAR.com seems a bit sluggish and bloated. I'm sure I'll get used to it.

Its still stupid that they removed that tab from the schedule page.

What tab are you talking about? What did it do?
On the schedule page they had a tab to choose a year for the schedule and results of past races for each series, cant find it now. I liked to browse it occasionaly to jolt my memory.

So far I don't like the new website. :( Everything is oversized and poorly laid out. It doesn't help that there is a huge NASCAR banner taking up 1/4th of the page (Although I'm guessing this is an Error).

I even prefer the old website more than this.

Okay. I wasn't familiar with their old schedule layout. Like what was said earlier, except this is the correct address, http://racing-reference.info/ is the place I go for all current and past race info. It is undeniably the best place on the net for NASCAR race information IMO.

On the current nascar.com site they do have two great options for the current schedule. The first is a printable .pdf to throw up on the fridge for reference. The second is a downloadable calendar for smartphones. I downloaded the three calendars available for each of the series.

Thanks, dpk. I'll keep trying. It looks like the site is aimed more toward iPads and smart phones rather than desktop PCs.

That's what it seems like. :( That's also a part of the reason I don't like Windows 8. Both the new NASCAR.com and Windows 8 are designed more for tablets and phones than computers. The new site caters to those on mobile devices at the expense of those on computers.

If you click on "Standings" and then on "View Full Standings", you can then select previous years. The same goes with Results, you can click on "View Full Results" and then select different years and/or tracks.

Windows 8 is actually very nice once you get used to it. The feedback we are getting from our focus group at work has been very positive thus far. We are even leaning towards setting up our business development team with Surface Pro tablets provided our testing goes well.

The only option is 2012 results, not all the way back like it was. Just plain dumb that nascar.com wouldnt have their own statistics. It goes without saying that I think the new site SUCKS, probably because I do not use portable communication devices other than a phone even though it can tweet, text and do a lot of other on line crap. I've used racing reference on and off for awhile and guess thats all I'll use now.

Yep, tablets. Have y'all used it on a computer? I'm starting to get used to Windows 8 but I'm not crazy about how some programs run in "start screen" mode while others run in "desktop" mode.

I'm using both my computer and smart phone to view nascar.com. The layout is different on each. My computer screen size is 27" so that may be why I have no problem with the new layout. Sluggish, not at all. Not for me. Every change takes time to get used to. If you've been watching the website since it went online it's easy to see that it's a work in progress as things are being added all of the time. I can't wait to see all of the new options in full swing come the Shootout Day.

2011 or any other previous year are available if you click on the drop-down menu in the year category and select another year.
Note the year...

Are you sure you're looking at the correct site? I don't see how they could have made it any more simple.

Yes. The whole key is learning the keyboard shortcuts. They have a link to them on Microsoft.com

I have it on one of my work computers and on my spare home PC. I will install it on my main home PC (along with Office 2013) once I talk to my college's tech support people and my professors and make sure I'll be able to complete and submit assignments without any compatibility issues.

Thats the driver standings page not the race results page I was looking for.

I am looking at the correct site and did not say it was too complicated, it may be too simple but as DP said its a work in progress.

Is anyone else having a problem with the NASCAR logo taking up 1/4th of the screen? This is what it looks like on my computer:

That's strange, because it doesn't show when I view the pages.

No, it's not a pop up. Here is a different page that is scrolled down a little.

On a separate note, I'm not crazy about how much wasted space there is on the new site.

EDIT: I just checked NASCAR.com on my stepdad's computer, and it's working fine.

First suggestion, quit using Internet Exploder.

Microsoft Internet Explorer = Microsoft Google Chrome Downloader.

Well, I took my first serious look at the site.

It's obviously laid out for optimal performance on smaller, touch-oriented screens. Everything is huge, to allow ease of access on touch devices. However, I'm a traditional desktop users; I think I got a callus on my 'Page Down' finger while scrolling the length of the home page. That sucker's longer than the Pocono front stretch.

There's more multimedia content and less text than the old site. That doesn't appeal to me since I assimilate information better by reading it than watching and listening. I don't see myself looking at these items, but I won't object to them unless it means the total loss of some of the features (Track Smack, Fantasy projections, opinion columns, etc.) traditionally offered in text format.

I guess it's too early to tell how those features will be presented, or if they'll return at all. I guess I'll know better once I see what becomes of them. Ditto the weekly qualifying and practice results; those are the main reason I visit the site. Right now I'm neutral on the site, but I was never a heavy user of the old one.

I expect that us Fan Council members will be seeing several surveys over the next few months asking for our opinions on NASCAR.com. I really only use NASCAR.com to access premium features and stats so it's not a big deal.

The only thing that is bugging me is that the site is sloooooow on my Android device. My wi-fi and LTE are plenty fast so the culprit is likely related to still being on Gingerbread.
I guess now I have an excuse to get a Galaxy Note 2. :D

Us fan council members are not supposed to broadcast that we are fan cancel members, remember the disclaimer that "we dont tell so you dont tell', so its not a braggadocio point to pursue for personal edification.

Okay, I have to change one opinion. I mistakenly interpreted many of the links / tiles / icons on the 'News and Media' page as pointing to multimedia content. The links in the uppermost 'Articles' grouping actually connect to content that is primarily in text. What confused me is that each of these tiles has a camera icon in the upper left corner. This led me to think they pointed to photo slideshows, which I usually don't have much use for. I'm not sure what that icon is supposed to indicate, but it looks like at least some of the content is still in the format I prefer.

On the same 'News and Media' page are two groupings of tile named 'Videos' and 'Feature Video'. Anybody know the difference?

nascar.com should be the one and only place that any of us need to go to look up stats throughout the history of the sport. Personally I've never used it to do so because the information has never been made in great detail on their site. In NASCAR's defense though, it was never their site until this year. Turner had control over the site and ran the operations there. There's no reason at this point though that the stat pages can't be expanded to include everything that we're able to find elsewhere. Heck, I'd think that it would be in NASCAR's best interest to make their own site THE DSTINATION of all NASCAR browsing fans. As it is now on nascar.com their stats only go back to the 2006 season. o_O Surely they must be planning on adding to that database? Maybe they need to contact the racing-reference.info people to get a handle on how to accomplish this? They know what they're doing over there.

As far as navigating the new site goes, I can't see where it could be any more simple. Everything that is on the site can be accessed from the menu at the top of the initial screen or just simply scroll down. Maybe there is a huge difference among the different web browsers? I am using Firefox and have no issues with the size of the screen. Everything on the page fits left to right regardless of the size I make the screen. The only scrolling that needs to be done is up and down. Outside of overreaction to change I really don't see the problem.

I don't have a tablet to know how it reacts to the new page but my phone seems to handle it well. It's just different, that's all.
