Getting to see Jack Ingram win a 1971 or Greenville Pickens 200 lapper in a 55 Chevy was one of my favorite early memories. I was about 9 or 10 years old at the time.
They opened the gates after the race and I got to walk around and look at the cars for the first time after a race. Smelling the tires and gas. I would study the taped up steering wheels the different gear shifter setups, the drivers were bigger than life to me and I would wonder what inspired the driver arrangements or ergonomics. As a boy I was overwhelmed and I did not understand it all but I just knew there had to be great reasons for every detail. The great ones like Jack Ingram had it scienced out but the shade tree tech lack of conformity could still be seen. It was just too good and my writing will never do it justice.. I was a kid in heaven and it was in my blood for life.
Jack's plain brown Nova's the best and most beautiful nothing fancy thing that will kick your ass I can imagine. I have always loved thd plain but perfectly functional look, like a beautiful woman that just looks better every time you see her.
