Throwback Thursday

Nice picture. I remember seeing those as late models back in the 80s. They were an okay looking car in stock form, for the design era in which they were built, but when transformed into a short track car they were very cool.
yeah a stock Ford Fairmont never looked that good in fact they hurt the eyes to look at them.

Getting to see Jack Ingram win a 1971 or Greenville Pickens 200 lapper in a 55 Chevy was one of my favorite early memories. I was about 9 or 10 years old at the time.
They opened the gates after the race and I got to walk around and look at the cars for the first time after a race. Smelling the tires and gas. I would study the taped up steering wheels the different gear shifter setups, the drivers were bigger than life to me and I would wonder what inspired the driver arrangements or ergonomics. As a boy I was overwhelmed and I did not understand it all but I just knew there had to be great reasons for every detail. The great ones like Jack Ingram had it scienced out but the shade tree tech lack of conformity could still be seen. It was just too good and my writing will never do it justice.. I was a kid in heaven and it was in my blood for life.

Jack's plain brown Nova's the best and most beautiful nothing fancy thing that will kick your ass I can imagine. I have always loved thd plain but perfectly functional look, like a beautiful woman that just looks better every time you see her.

Bob Presley # 54 from the same era included

# 55 Tiny Lund when I was a kid I thought his name was "Tiny London". I was excited during the races and that's the way I heard it on MRN.
It was a sad day on MRN and everywhere when we lost him, everybody loved him.
