Today I became a big Chase Elliott fan.

This was what I was waiting for from Chase Elliott. About time he stood up for his rights. He hasn't been anywhere near aggressive enough to win races.

Denny Hamlin is the ultimate motivator for young drivers. He pushed Brad Keselowski around in XFINITY, causing Keselowski to become more aggressive and stand up for himself. He pushed Joey Logano around and Logano ended up going full Honey Badger and morphing into an elite competitor. And now, he's got Chase Elliott giving that extra 10 percent on the track.
 
Lesson learned?

Two equal actions but two highly unequal public perceptions. Be the 2nd person to perform the aforementioned equal action.

Chase effectively ran Denny into the wall, eliminating any and all other real estate on the track. It wasn't subtle, but it didn't matter, b/c Chase was #2 in this two-step dance.

The golden rule. Often times, drivers will wait until it hurts the most to retaliate. Logano wrecked Kenseth out of a championship, so Kenseth did the same thing. Hamlin took Elliott clean out at Martinsville when Elliott was about to get his first win and punch his ticket to the final, so Elliott did the same to Hamlin.

And now the final has Keselowski and Busch, who do not like each other.

This is the joy of the playoff system, it creates rivalries and intensifies the consequences.

Karma always wins ... unless it's racing against Kyle Busch.

Oh yeah I forgot about Hamlin being a total douchebag toward Brad when he was starting out.

Boy did that backfired on him.

But I doubt it has to do with Hamlin being a motivator. Those drivers are simply better than him.
 
Pretty classy by Chase to race Kenseth cleanly. So much was on the line for Chase that he had a lot of incentive to try and keep Kenseth from making that late race pass. Chase did it the right way, and he'll be rewarded for his actions in the years to come.
 
Chase has the talent and, despite the smooth easy chatter that resembles his Dad's, has the fire to win. He will be a major star and winner for years.

Denny was stupid. His team told him from the beginning to remember who he was racing that day (Keslowski), but he said he was going for the win (per pre-race chatter reported by network). At that point Chase was faster. Hambone should have given some room and stayed close if possible to be positioned if Chase faded (which he did).
 
My new favorite race car number = 24 or 9 which ever he drives next season. Loved the karma, missed the hambone interview because tv was muted. I only watched 30 laps and caught the "racin incident" What nobody realizes, is that Chase could have taken his own car out with a tire rub. It just so happened to play out perfectly. I did catch the fans ( what few that were there) going nuts when hamboner mashed the wall and used up his toyoder. Dont know what burton said and dont care, but i'm sure he flip flopped from martinsville.
 
I don't think Burton has wavered in his opinion of Martinsville. Nor has Jeff Gluck, Nate Ryan, etc. They all sound like a bunch of hacks. But that's the media for you, you can't have all of them on the same side of the fence, always gotta have those few that take the unpopular stance in order to drive the discussion (into the ground).

The problem I have with Burton is when he starts telling the drivers on the track how to drive in certain situations, what they need to do. Even going so far as to try to tell us what the driver is thinking. I've never heard an announcer do any of that. The guy was a wheel holder. You don't do what a wheel holder does or you will become one.

If Chase won, and he had a chance, Denny would be out; he had to race Chase and not worry about Kez at that point. In hind sigh, he should have backed off when he was running out of track. His only other choice was to dump Chase and he wisely skipped that decision.

DW does it all the time.

I have issues with Burton because he's not ojective at all. He still thinks like a driver.

Often time you will have Letarte go no, I dont see it that way, etc.

Burton is biased.

Denny has made a career out of putting his foot in his mouth. Every time he pops off about another young driver, said driver goes on to success.

He called Brad a hack, two years later Brad wins a Cup championship. He tried to bully Logano, then got his back broken while Joey went on a tear. Called Austin Dillon a silver spoon wheel holder, Dillon wins the Xfinity championship. I’m sure the same will happen with Chase Elliott.

He tried to let him go according to his spotter. Amazing that this fact is ignored. Chase wanted a piece...and he got it....and in his own words, raced Denny the way Denny raced him....with a smile on his face.

Denny was owed a piece....... Karma is a bitch...... Denny ought to just shut his trap and learn to race smarter...... Chase had much more class and finesse in his little finger Sunday.... than Denny did last weekend..... Denny is a very slow learner.....

Your buddy may need to watch himself this Sunday. I believe he is still owed some "rubbing' racin'" from a variety of drivers, including smilin' Chase.
 
Yesterday was the beginning of a new chapter in Chase Elliott's career, if Martinsville wasn't already.

I wouldn't rule him out at Homestead. He could still win the last race. :)
 
Elliott has been HMS only car most of the year.Jimmie's age has snuck up on him. Jr's heart isn't in it , and we will see if it was KK or the car next year, Chase has grown an awful lot this year. He had everything to lose with Matt's pass yesterday and raced hard but clean

Chris Lambert has been through too much in his life to BS anyone. Period.
 
Hamlin after his crew tells him how far ahead he is in front of Kez says in his best Tom Cruise voice.."I'm going to win it". :p:D

That actually has been part of the conversation, where have you been? Not closing wasn't the issue Sunday. What you saw was no different than Kyle vs. Blaney at Pocono. There was nothing Chase could do besides wreck Kenseth.

You'd have to be crazy to think that Hamlin didn't let his ego get in the way. Chase gave him the bumper at least 4 or 5 times to let him know he was faster and Hamlin didn't budge. He was a lot more generous than what we saw 2 weeks ago. What was he doing, trying to race for a win? Kind of hard to do if you're not catching the front 2 and falling into the clutches of the guy behind you no? :rolleyes:

Hamlin allowed his ego to cloud the big picture, and it could end up being his last shot at getting to Homestead. You never know how these things are going to turn out, and these young guys are only going to steal more and more wins, points, etc. from the vets in the coming years. I bet if he could go back and do it differently, he would.

It's not the same thing. Sure that's what Chase said but he did it better.. didn't actually wreck Denny. Big difference imo.
 
I recall Burton saying (when he was still a driver) that these kinds of incidents are remembered by both drivers. The memory could surface at some future point (but I assume it would be weighted with how they raced since then).

So you would disagree with Chase? You would prefer that he say, "I race others better than they race me,"? The media would agree with you.
