Truck RACE thread --- Iowa

In this instance I said nothing about safety and was speaking on how easy they are to drive this season. Read through the thread again if you need. That does correlate with added safety but it's new this season with the package. The cars have been safe since Kyle joined if you want points for that or something but it has nothing to do with why I'm a fan of his. Everyone is driving by the same standards and the ones that do win happen to be the best drivers.

Alright, if it's so easy then let's see you go do it. I'll be waiting to see how you do in your first race.

So, is the sport dying because racers aren't dying or is it dying because of the aeropakage?

Holy **** man I've already said in this thread that I'm an average person that shouldn't be able to drive one of those cars. If you are going to argue with me read what I've already said please.

Again like I said it's a mixture of both and the main reason can't be pinpointed. Not everything is a generalization.

So, it has nothing to do with the playoffs? Or the loss of tracks like Rockingham and North Wilkesboro? Or the addition of a bunch of tracks that all look and drive the same? Or the fact that interest in TV and sports in general is declining?

Nah, he likes the playoffs. Funny he hates it's easier to drive but loves it's easier to win a championship.

It could be as I said a mixture and the main reason can't be pinpointed. See why I question comprehension now?

But you've been rambling for hours about the sport being too safe.

You should send a tweet to Kyle Busch telling him the cars are too safe and the ratings would be higher if he died at Daytona in 2015.

To be fair I do see a point about the danger factor, not that I agree with SimpleFan's views what so ever.

I'm not asking for anyone to agree but just understand the point and not brush it off as insane or whatever. It's a pretty common view outside the internet believe it or not.

I don't tweet and I'm not that shallow and it's amazing that you still think just because I think it's too safe that I want to see people get hurt. Just proves you don't listen to people that share different views than you.

It's a wrong view, plain and simple.

Yet you have no reason why other than you think that statement means something it doesn't.

Yeah because the playoffs reward winning which is what racing is about. Second is the first loser and should never ever be credited the win.

I mean Newman came close to winning the championship a few years ago without a win tho.....Hell someone could legit win the first 35 races and finish 2nd in the last one and not win the championship. So no, it doesn't reward winning. It rewards beating 3 people in one final race.

When that happens you will have a point but until then you have nothing. So far it has rewarded winners.

The fact it COULD happen is what the problem is. Doesn't need to be "oh it's okay." until it happens. It needs to be fixed before it ever does.

The fact is it hasn't and has a very slim percentage of ever happening. You disagree with the playoffs, I disagree with giving 2nd the win. At least we can agree NASCAR does stuff wrong .

I mean you guys control what you post not me. If that's what you think expresses your opinion best, as I've said it's telling.

Safety is empirical, not theoretical. If an activity results in injuries and deaths, it is unsafe. If it doesn't, it is safe. By definition, to believe that something is "too safe" is to prefer that it hurt and / or kill more people. The only way it stops being "too safe" is if people start getting hurt and killed again.

This is bloodlust. As a fan of sprint cars and midgets, a form of American auto racing that still regularly kills and maims drivers, I find this faux-macho posturing to be disgusting. Not to mention IndyCar. No, sprint car racing is not more popular because Bryan Clauson, Jason Johnson, Greg Hodnett, Dave Steele, Jason Leffler, and others recently died doing it. It would be stronger if they were still alive and well. It would be stronger if Kevin Swindell could still walk.

The same goes for the phony tough guy bullsh!t about how modern street cars are weak or whatever. In any semi-rational sense, this isn't a matter of personal opinion. Auto-related deaths on a per capita and per mile traveled basis are typically half or less than half what they were in the 1950s-1970s era when the venerable "tanks" were built.

I don't get why some keep beating their heads on this particular wall. NASCAR announced the rule months ago, they've made their decision regarding this race, and no single individual's opinion is going to change anything. For every rule there's someone that doesn't like it, but until it's changed it's still the rule and nobody has room to squawk when it's legitimately enforced.

I'm so glad I was off-line for most of this discussion.

A much as I don't care about Logano winning it last year or the guy with 3 guys beating guys with 8 wins, it wasn't as uncommon as you'd think when they had the Latford system. The 4 best drivers were in Miami last year.

Thanks to a ridiculous, BS play-off system.
That is why fans are leaving.
This happened a few times during the pre-chase era too (DW and Terry Labonte’s ‘85 and ‘96 championships come to mind), but last year proved that this system that’s “all about winning” isn’t necessarily a safeguard from that.

I actually didn’t mind the pre-playoff chase and the current one is a little better than the lottery that it was from 2014-2016, but the one race for the championship still kind of kills it for me.

Stick and ball gimmicks.

I hate this less than 2014-16, but the 1 race championship is a joke, NASCAR doesn't want to come to terms with it.

I actually thought the 2011-2013 format was the best one: top 10 in points plus the top two winners in points outside the top 10 (or 3 in 2013). I thought that one had the best balance of awarding consistency and winning.

I thought the end of regular season wins or whatever seeding system they had could have been emphasized more.

eh, most of the cooler heads think a one or two race suspension and a fine will cut it. But yeah drama

Yep, Logano/Penske's sprint to the win has confused some for sure. I think the rest of them will all have new pieces with the latest greatest this year. Penske played the playoffs.

If the same drivers/teams are going to battling for the Championship every year then why not just let it play out without all of the fake drama...
