Truck RACE thread --- Iowa

Not the devices specifically, but the continuous requirements related to taking out even the perception of danger...in what used to be considered a dangerous sport. It was always a sport where adrenalin rose to the level of being able to overcome ones own timidity, to push the envelope of self preservation. By cocooning the participants into a bubble of complete safety, takes away that small difference that makes a Curtis Turner, a Dale Earnhardt Sr, a David Pearson, and such.
and we're done.

So who is "Marcus" and why should I care?
Marcus pays the bills as the sponsor for the truck series as he's the CEO of Gander/CampingWorld/Good Sam and various other business that sponsor NASCR. If you're a fan of the series you should probably know that as well as care a great deal about it.

This was the more concerning incident on safety for the day imo.

that was way back in the day and times were different. Now days racing can be eliminated with a simple stroke of the pen, and that has happened to many tracks when john Q public doesn't want racing to be there. Recently there was a congresswoman who wanted a ban on racing after the Stewart Ward incident.

Do you guys think Hill will mess with Sauter again?
There’s a reason Dale didn’t mess with Geoff Bodine, he knew it would be given right back to him. Another thing, I would rather a driver retaliate during a caution less likely to involve other drivers.

Also Kurt Busch was suspended and given a waiver in 2015 so hopefully it's regular season & playoff points taken away and not the whole season here...

Kurt Busch was suspended then for an off the track legal and PR matter that was pending further investigation. The waiver was granted because once he was effectively 'cleared', there was no rationale for a penalty. This is different than other situations in which the wrongdoing has been established and is not in question. The only analogy to that case would be if Sauter was suspended, appealed, and was later somehow found to have done nothing wrong.

I would just prefer NASCAR establish clear protocols for how they are going to discipline and stick to them, which they have started to do in many areas. This case-by-case stuff in which every side effect of every penalty is worried over is not that.

Hill calmly said it best, "I have better things to worry about..."

Sauter went small, not tall. This wouldn't have happened if they instituted my 30 year old rule for Trucks. :D Remove the old guys looking to cash in on a development Series.

NASCAR already used the footage in its wrap up montage, so no doubt this will help sell the Race next year.

This is the point I was trying to make...apologize for the hyperbole...just sick and tired of my sport being changed into something that it was never intended to be. What is next? Socialism?

Here is my root contention...someone intentionally takes out a driver that had an opportunity to be a contender in a race, and possibly beating you...it that person responds in kind, to take that possibility away from you to possibly have a good finish in the same race...well, girls...that to me is just fair. All is good in love and war...you took Sauter out with intent...accept your fate double.

Hill is an idiot...Sauter almost lost it when they touched the first time trying to avoid Hill checking up...then Hill admits he took out Sauter. Why is not Sauter using Hill's face to cushion a few punches?

Hill, "I'm not going to put up with it."

He's not backing down -- should be interesting to see what happens when Sauter comes back. Maybe after a weekend of making Mickey Mouse pancakes and mowing the lawn, Sauter will appreciate his NASCAR-life on the third rung down...

The "gentleman" from Eau Claire puts a lot more into Nascar...and lets the drivers wear pants.

Not necessarily...but away from coddling...
no one is being coddled at all. You would be an absolute fool as a driver to not go out on the track and DO YOUR JOB with the latest safety innovations. It seems you forget that these drivers are actual people with families and loved ones but at the risk of your entertainment you want them to just go out there like its 1980. Fans like you are so bad for the sport, you are a hindrance to moving forward in safety, innovation and racing technology because you just don't get or seem to grasp that 1980 was almost 40 years ago now.

your always embarrassed about something it seems or trying to say we should be, or the whole fleakin world is embarrased for Nascar. Nonsense.

more nonsense
They just gave a win to a driver that never led a lap. That's nonsense. Also if you're not cheating you're not trying.

Yeah I don't know how you guys live with yourselves.

Yeah I know it happens but it shouldn't in NASCAR. If you don't cross the finish line first, you don't win. If you need to DQ someone then DQ them but don't give the win to the next car in line, you just have no winner.
