Tulsa Shoot out/Chili Bown Nationals 2018

Bell defends Chili Bowl title, leads 1-2-3 sweep for car owner Kunz
Oklahoma native Christoper Bell gave car owner Keith Kunz his fourth straight and seventh overall Golden Driller trophy with his second consecutive victory in the Chili Bowl Midget Nationals before a packed house late Saturday at the River Spirit Expo Center at Expo Square.
Thanks to Bell, the championship belongs to an Oklahoma driver for the second straight year. The only other Oklahoman to win the Chili Bowl was Andy Hillenburg in 1994, who was also driving for Kunz.
Drivers from 10 states and the UK started the 55-lap feature and Tanner Thorson of Minden, Nevada, put on a show, working his way to a fourth-place finish. Thorson, the 2016 USAC National Midget champion, won the first C main then finished third in the first B main to earn the 17th spot start in the A main, then proceeded to work his way through the field.

Can't say enough about Bell. Good sportsman and what a great example for racing and Nascar.

Thorson sure came up thru there to get a fourth. Swindell was on the move until he broke. That was a really good race.
I have a full replay, quality isn't that great but definitely watchable
race starts at the one hour and twenty minute mark

that was so cool, thank you for doing this.

I enjoyed the heck out of it. Enjoyed Jeff's Gluck's first time experience reporting and racer girl's New Jersey bunch behind the scenes racing team at the Chili bowl.

I watched a few of the Jersey girl you tube videos and they were pretty good. Do you know if Alex Bowman raced this year?

Hope y'all don't mind some Chili Bowl photos over the next. Here's England's Tom Harris and California's Kyle Larson in heat race action.

This is one of my most anticipated races every year. I love the feel of it even from all the way in CA. Love seeing all of our guys from out here go back there and show off their talent. Loved that "anyone but Donny" was in the A Main. Just a great race year after year.

Bernal, Messerault, Golobic, Larson, Scelzi......the West has incredible sprint car talent.

I met Kyle the day I took my avatar picture in Knoxville Iowa at English Creek Speedway. He was an incredible talent when he was ten years old. Completely stood out among the crowd. Amazingly, among that talent pool from English Creek, along with Kyle, we have Mason Moore, JoJo Helberg, Tyler Reddick who are still racing , Jessica Helberg and Kyle put on an absolutely incredible 500 A main race. Ive got a online photo album from that trip if youd like to see it. Its actually pretty cool stuff now, 14 years later. Send me a PM if you want the link. The funniest thing about my Avatar photo is the little guy in the picture with Kyle who is also a kick ass racer now too named James Setters. I showed him this picture last year at the Knoxville Nationals. He looked at me like WTF?

Even though Tony Sterwart left sometime Friday after an apparent fallout, he was one of, if the THE hardest working people there. Running to the track with the crew every time there was an incident, carrying (runnin, actually) with bags of speedy dry, knee deep in getting cars untangled from the fence, you name it. This was after Brady Bacon flipped in his qualifier. It took them like 30 minutes to get him off the fence, but there's Tony on top of the car as they lift it off the fence.

Meeting him in the infield, seeing him interact with everyone there, in his element, and seeing how hard he worked during the week, you couldn't be more wrong. Dude was hands down the hardest working man there from Monday on. Nobody is completely sure what happened, but persistent rumors are that the fallout was due to actions by the youngest of the Hahns. a grandson I believe, that's kind of a hothead and loose cannon.

Not gonna disagree with you bud but when he abruptly left the meeting down here that he was paid to race in there was talk that he was upset about fiance's family near california fires.
Tony had wrecked his car in New Plymouth and somebody lent him one of their cars for the final Western Springs races.
Talked to one of the Boys from Western Springs last night who told me that after a couple of races he got out of the car ... Said this thing is a piece of sh!t and walked away.
Class alright.

Another indoor midget race coming in 2018! They announced that the Gateway Dirt Nationals in St Louis which featured Super late models and modifieds will now also have a midget race this year!

It isn't easy, but here is your best chance to try to snag a Chilli Bowl ticket. Don't even think about a front row straightaway ticket.:)

Front stretch tickets ain't all that anyway. They big grandstands in 3/4 are the best seats in the house. Or you can just show up and you can pretty much bet you'll get a ticket from someone selling.

When I was going, all they had was the front stretch seats. You could walk around the pits. Lots of changes since then. You are going to see more up higher in the front stretch seats.
