Weather Check-In

Winter wonderland my ass, almost 10 inches of white krap with a thin coating of freezing rain, now ice underneath.
Dog likes it though.

We didn't do too bad...sweep some snow off the Jeep and ready to go again. :) IMG344.jpg

The high temp in the ten day forecast is 39 degrees on Jan 6. This white krap isn't melting anytime soon.

How's that Toby Keith song go? I ain't as good as I once was but I'm as good once as I ever was. Well, that applies to the old car this morning. Even in the cold temps it still fired up. Off to work.

Only about 40º for a high the last few days. Next week though, they're calling for uppers 50s and into the 60s for a bit.

Good idea! That would probably double the value of my car. ;)

Unless you're car is worth $12.00, I seriously doubt it ;) but it sure as hell would go a long way towards extending the engine life and would throw warm air from the heater when first started in the cold.

Have you actually checked to see if it already has one?

My cars definitely worth more than $12.00. I filled it up this morning. :D

It's not that big a deal. Weather like we had this morning is not the norm. I live in western PA

working at a dealership now, I don't know why block heaters aren't just standard. I've counted no less than FOUR engine changes this week. Tech's said that it's because people run pure water instead of antifreeze and crack the block. Almost all diesels come with block heaters because that's the only way a diesel will really start.

Where I live, the thought of running water instead of antifreeze is absurd but freezing aside, almuminum requires protection from corrosion and the proper coolant does just that.

The G12 coolant for the last VW I owned cost $28.00/gallon and the number of guys who cried about that price while spending $600.00 on a sub woofer was obscene.

The thing is, if you can afford to take to your vehicle to the dealship, you can afford proper fluids to put in it.

0.9 yesterday, 25.7 this morning

If this trend keeps up, I may be able to hit the beach by next Monday. Na, nobody wants to see that. :D

This is texas. Idjits apparently think the garden hose is plenty.

Then there are those who go to the store, and are willing to buy a $18 jug of 50/50 premix when the concentrated jug is $12. Paying $9 for a half gallon of water? Yea, I'll dump 1.5 jugs of concentrate and use the garden hose from there.

I go to the dealership and get the reccomended stuff, then buy a big jug of distilled water and have at it.

As for cracked blocks (I haven't seen one in a while) I suppose that some may think that the core plugs will save their engine as many believe them to actully be freeze plugs :(

btw On the 6 pm news last night the weather genius said "last night was the coldest of the year".
Worse part was he was serious.

He couldn't possibly know that as the year isn't anywheres near over yet.

Almost 3" of rain since Tuesday morning. Sun is beginning to break through this morning. Looking for 70* tomorrow, then back to
the icebox on Saturday.

Texas weather is never dull.

And crappy weather, that you do not have a choice over :D

Yeah, Martinsville, Bristol, Bowman Gray, Hickory, Ace, Kingsport, Motor Mile, South Boston, Caraway, Charlotte, Rockingham, Newport, Lonesome Pine, Franklin County Speedway, Orange County, Southern National, Tri-County and so on.........all being in a stone's throw sure is crappy.

Yes, you have more race tracks near you.
But...you also have: More rain, more snow, more flooding, more hurricanes/tropical storms, etc.
I can book a flight and a room and see as many races as I want and then I get to come home where the weather doesn't suck :D

Not going to see much flooding at the top of a mountain. :D
