What Do you Think of the New Package?

I have to say....they are racing...and it’s closer than last year. But are people going to whine and claim it’s manufactured like the Playoffs?
 
You’re gonna have varied opinions but in general I think it’s positive. Maybe a little more HP is needed but that should be gained as the season winds on

I’m adjusting to the new package, weird to me they don’t lift. The restarts have way more WHOA moments, and I like how the cars break apart after a few laps in the pack. Tire wear still matters still have to get educated about the handling it does seem clean air plays a role for those drivers stuck more in the back. Seems to be it still pays off to be in the front, I was wrong about these tracks being mini Daytona’s or Talladega. I’m going to wait some more races to decide how I feel about this package.
 
only driver that really stood out with the 1.5 package was Stenhouse, he was giving em hell out there. :D Plenty of side be side racing and passing. IDK if with more races the teams will screw that up or not. Cali should be good.
 
IMO the cars are easier to drive this year. I don't believe it has hurt the racing, as much as some of us thought it would. All in all I think the MMFIC of NASCAR is getting the sport headed in the right direction again. Is it perfect? No, but it never will be. That's okay with me, because so far I like what I see. It's only the second race, but I believe most of us think it has improved the racing some. If nothing else, it gives me hope that things will be better.
 
After two races with it, I think it's quite an improvement, but I'd be lying if I said I hadn't hoped for a little more. I like the "look" of the race more, but I'm not sure that there isn't a better way to get to the same result. Perhaps that what the new car and engine package will do. This still looks a little too much like the band-aid that it is. I also have to point out that it doesn't look ANYTHING like most of the naysayers said it would look like, or even what "experts" like Darrell Waltrip said it would like. I'm STILL waiting for all of those wrecks he predicted.
 
Package needs narrower tires and remove the tapered spacer for more throttle response. Return the horsepower to atleast 700.

Hopefully the new cars in a few years eliminate the real issue, which is sideforce.

That incar shot of Brad in the closing laps was tell tell. Literally WTFO and holding the wheel. The only obstacle was the bumps, rather than holding onto the balance of the car.

Best handling cars go to the front, rather than driver input being a big part of the handle. Utilizing the throttle to turn the car is dead.

In my world, cars being closer together and punishing the lead car by having such a tow for the trailing car is not fantastic. It’s artifical.

I predicted they would stay together longer on restarts before they spread out. I also said they could draft up on a car and slingshot if they had enough run. I didn't predict they could side draft like they did. It didn't look like that was working at the All Star or the Xfinity races, but it was surprisingly at Vegas. Already both times with the two packages have turned the tracks into multi groove tracks which is a hope that at tracks like the new repave at Texas might help that and other notorious single lane tracks on the schedule.
 
all the people whinning on twitter are pissed cause this package is not giving them pack racing and a crash fest like daytona/talladega.

Iam excited to see how this deal plays out in Fontana in two weeks and then Texas. Then I’ll determine if I’m excited for Kansas. But color me optimistic after I was initially a death bedder on this whole thing

I'm warming up to it, even though it isn't my package of choice. I liked the race, I liked what I saw visually with cars hanging on each other, restarts were wild, long run passes were still happening, battles for the lead, hard racing etc.

I don't think going caution free was what Propst and NASCAR were expecting or wanting. The cars looked extremely stable.

It's different, I'm not convinced it's an improvement, when you take into account the removal of some of the finer points of throttle input and corner entry.
 
Tell ya what, they get a late race caution, and they will, it is going to get crazy on the restarts then I bet. Pretty amazing race first shot out of the box considering. I don't appreciate Goodyear's rock hard tires. Teams shouldn't be able to run two tire stops except for a short distance not a full fuel run IMO.
 
This first test of the total package was a quality result. I’d prefer a little more horsepower, but the racing was better than typical 1.5 mile tracks.
 
I'm beginning to warm up more, but the racing has improved. A little more power, but hey the results have been good so far for the intermediates.
 
I liked the closer racing but the cars having more grip makes the racing less exciting imo. I wonder if NASCAR can do anything to make the cars less stable without changing the aerodynamics? Will the cars even get loose when you get right up behind them anymore?
 
Can’t wait for Fontana. The racing there in recent years has been awesome from a grandstand perspective.
I can’t believe this crap package is going to improve the racing there.
No more 217 going into 1.
 
Most of the people on this forum could go out there and hold the cars wide open and make lap times pretty close to the ones the pros were turning. That and the dirty air are the 2 cons to this package. It has produced two pretty good races and I've gotten used to the slower speeds. I wanna see it at Texas and Kentucky before making a final judgement but I'm thrilled that we do not have pack racing.
 
As a car guy I’m never going to be able to wrap my head around slower-is-better from a competition standpoint. :idunno:
I haven’t even watched yet this year.
I was already losing interest in the sport with the silly stages, lottery qualifying, playoffs...
Knowing that racecars are going slower is really not pushing me toward wanting to watch.
