With 3M jumping the RFR ship to sponsor Jeff Gordon next year, it got me to thinking: will Jeff actually be around longer than RFR? losing 3M is a big blow to that organization, so I think Jeff will actually outlast RFR at this point.
I think RFR's days are numbered, but it's a matter of whether it's like the Yates example, where they floundered for 3 or 4 years before merging with another team, or if it's like the Junior Johnson example, a team that won 3 races in 1994 but was out of business by the end of 1995. Somewhere in the middle would be my guess.RFR will toil in obscurity for several years like Yates Racing before it closes or merges with another team. I imagine Gordon will be done by then.
Bet Biff is gone at the end of his current contract.
Exactly. RFR aint goin nowhere.@nateryan

Yep.Exactly. RFR aint goin nowhere.
Jeff will retire long before RFR locks the doors for the final time.
The new Chase format put Petty back on the map. Otherwise they'd be an afterthought. They need to thank Brian.I don't know how long or how much Jack will stay active in the organization but I figure the Roush organization is planning for the future. One example of how an organization changed from an iconic organization to the current one is Petty Motorsports.

Hopefully it's enough to cover the loss of 3M. They're on Biffle's car for 29 races this year, that's a lot to replace.@nateryan

Exactly, no one wants to see less competition.Hopefully it's enough to cover the loss of 3M. They're on Biffle's car for 29 races this year, that's a lot to replace.
Petty hadn't won a race since 2001 before now.
He needs to thank God for rain.

Yeah, and 1999 was actually his last win before that.I believe Ambrose did have back to back wins at the Glen for him, no?
Yeah, and 1999 was actually his last win before that.
Oh yeah, I couldn't remember if the Evernham-Petty merger had taken place by then but I believe it had.Kasey Kahne had 2 wins for them back in 2009 I think.

Yeah, the #43 car hadn't won since 1999, until this year.Yeah, and 1999 was actually his last win before that.

If Fenway Sports Group pulls out, they might be in big trouble.
Jeff Gordon will retire way before Roush closes shop. It's not like Roush has ZERO sponsorships, or Jack is hurting for money. They'll scale back to two cars or cut back on Nationwide before they close down.
I sure would like to hear someone like "Allenbaba" comment on this . To an outsider like me , I haven't seen a big upturn in Roush since the deal with Fenway , Maybe it has been a great success . I don't see it , but it might . I really don't know if Fenway is a part of the solution or a part of the problem . Anybody have any insight ?
I'd call the Fenway deal largely a failure and here's why:
John Henry never uses his media outlets to promote his NASCAR venture. Fenway owns 80% of NESN but you never really see NASCAR covered at all on there. Outside of northern New England, you never see NASCAR promoted in the region period. This could've been a good chance to expose NASCAR to New England but Fenway hasn't capitalized. Fenway Park SHOULD have ads for NASCAR, RFR and the drivers (in some capacity). Red Sox fans are loyal to Fenway so you could've converted a few of them into RFR fans.
If Roush were smart, he would've tried to sell John Henry on paying big bucks to sign and sponsor the only native New Englander in the field (Joey Logano) so fans from the region have a driver on what is essentially their home team.
In fact, I have the NESN app on my phone and there are tabs for the Bruins, Red Sox and Patriots but none for NASCAR. RFR is essentially a sister org to NESN but gets no coverage from them.
I assume they've been a financial help though and that's important to them now.
no way Jack just fades away
