With 3M jumping the RFR ship to sponsor Jeff Gordon next year, it got me to thinking: will Jeff actually be around longer than RFR? losing 3M is a big blow to that organization, so I think Jeff will actually outlast RFR at this point.

Jeff Gordon will retire way before Roush closes shop. It's not like Roush has ZERO sponsorships, or Jack is hurting for money. They'll scale back to two cars or cut back on Nationwide before they close down.

RFR will toil in obscurity for several years like Yates Racing before it closes or merges with another team. I imagine Gordon will be done by then.

I think RFR's days are numbered, but it's a matter of whether it's like the Yates example, where they floundered for 3 or 4 years before merging with another team, or if it's like the Junior Johnson example, a team that won 3 races in 1994 but was out of business by the end of 1995. Somewhere in the middle would be my guess.

Bet Biff is gone at the end of his current contract.

"cat in the hat" is a big name .. he wont go quietly into that good night.

The extension only takes him thru the 2016 season.

I don't know how long or how much Jack will stay active in the organization but I figure the Roush organization is planning for the future. One example of how an organization changed from an iconic organization to the current one is Petty Motorsports.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall during a sales team meeting at Roush. They have sh*t the bed so hard the past few years, it's becoming comical.

*Jack walks into room, looks around and says* "Well guys, how'd we do this week?"... "We lost another major sponsor, to match our loss of another major driver"..."Symmetry boys, it's the wave of the future"

The new Chase format put Petty back on the map. Otherwise they'd be an afterthought. They need to thank Brian.

Hopefully it's enough to cover the loss of 3M. They're on Biffle's car for 29 races this year, that's a lot to replace.
Exactly, no one wants to see less competition.

Their development program is pretty barren too. After Biffle retires and if Stenhouse and Bayne don't pan out (likely scenario) then they really only have Chris Buescher to look towards, and they can't find sponsorship for him either.

Funny how Roush used to take sponsors from other teams, now they're taking them from him.

maybe john henry eases jack out as head honcho......teams up w/ penske in hms/shr biz model ?
24 will become 9 before rfr is gone.

Jeff will be winning races into his 60's.

I can hear the announcer now, "Jeff Gordon wins the 1st, 10th, 20th, and now 40th Brickyard 400!"

Ok maybe not that long

If Fenway Sports Group pulls out, they might be in big trouble.

I sure would like to hear someone like "Allenbaba" comment on this . To an outsider like me , I haven't seen a big upturn in Roush since the deal with Fenway , Maybe it has been a great success . I don't see it , but it might . I really don't know if Fenway is a part of the solution or a part of the problem . Anybody have any insight ?

I'd call the Fenway deal largely a failure and here's why:

John Henry never uses his media outlets to promote his NASCAR venture. Fenway owns 80% of NESN but you never really see NASCAR covered at all on there. Outside of northern New England, you never see NASCAR promoted in the region period. This could've been a good chance to expose NASCAR to New England but Fenway hasn't capitalized. Fenway Park SHOULD have ads for NASCAR, RFR and the drivers (in some capacity). Red Sox fans are loyal to Fenway so you could've converted a few of them into RFR fans.

If Roush were smart, he would've tried to sell John Henry on paying big bucks to sign and sponsor the only native New Englander in the field (Joey Logano) so fans from the region have a driver on what is essentially their home team.

In fact, I have the NESN app on my phone and there are tabs for the Bruins, Red Sox and Patriots but none for NASCAR. RFR is essentially a sister org to NESN but gets no coverage from them.

I assume they've been a financial help though and that's important to them now.

exactly! Roush Racing was a cornerstone before that merger...

no way Jack just fades away

Woah, woah, woah... that's the same Fenway?!

7 years a Nascar fan. 5 years a baseball fan. Polock forever :D

It will be interesting to see what happens, love the "experts" fortune telling. I don't have a clue myself, but I think they will both be around next year, good Lord willing and if the creek don't rise

wonder how Ford likes the future of Jack's stable..i'm sure they still have love from Trevor's 500 win but what else can they be happy about. i feel like Jack's cars should get better, but don't think he will have a driver to prove how good they are capable of being. Newman could end up at Roush after Ty moves up, but that want change anything either.
